Beach Baby Lodge is a three star lodge on the beach of Nungwi on the north edge of
Zanzibar island (Tanzania).

Beach Baby Lodge is a small, friendly and cozy lodge with nine guests rooms, a restaurant and a roof top bar overlooking the ocean with amazing sunsets.

The lodge are managed by two South African girls, Zelme and Liza, always smiling and always caring for their guests ensuring their get a great vacation on an exceptional location.

Beach Baby Lodge’s slogan speaks for itself: “Life is to short to not have a sea view”.

You can find hotels or resorts of higher standards in Zanzibar and on Nungwi beach, but to a much higher price leaving you with the feeling you are just one out of many guests. The staff and management at Beach Baby lodge are friendly, caring and walks the extra mile to make your stay memorable. You feel quickly you are a part of the Beach Baby lodge family.

The location is excellent, it’s on the beach (how better could it be?). The lodge has their own beach area with free sun beds for their guests. Once a week, the staff arrange grill party with bonfire on the beach serving delicious sea food.

The restaurant serve delicious food (breakfast, lunch and dinner), maybe the best restaurant in the area.

The roof top bar serves refreshments, local and international beers and great cocktails to reasonable prices. Don’t miss Happy Hour at sunset to enjoy awesome sunsets with two cocktails for price of one (and be careful with the Long Island Ice Tea which may cause language problems if enjoying to many. Same goes for their Tequila...).

The roof top bar is also popular for guests staying at surrounding hotels and seems like the place to meet and the place to be.

They arrange occasional dart competitions at the roof top bar which are popular events.

The quality of the rooms was spartan, no luxury (it’s a three star lodge), but clean and functional with a fully functional air condition. The shower had “variable” water pressure, not always working to perfection. Good beds with mosquito net (and there was not much mosquitoes on the lodge). Each room have a voltage regulator ensuring stabilized voltage at 220 VAC (the inlet voltage variates from 160- 200 VAC). All in all room was OK and the room is anyhow just a place to sleep.

The lodge are guarded by strong Masai warriors with machetes as well as a “friendly” guard dog and two beautiful cozy house cats. So no worries for your safety.

All in all, Beach Baby Lodge has perfect location, excellent food, service and friendly staff - a home away from home.

Highly recommended 👍😀.

My experience was overall excellent from day one. The transport was waiting outside the airport on time. The driver spoke a very good English which made communication easy. Upon arrival at Beach Baby Lodge I was met by friendly staff (after 10 pm), my room was clean with the aircon switched on to keep it cool. A welcoming drink and a lovely dinner was waiting for me inside. At that time of night the formalities of checking in was left to the next morning. If you think nothing can get better after that arrival, think again. The next 2 weeks was an eye opener for excellent service at an affordable price. From Liza and Zelmé (the managers) all the way thru to the gardener the staff was efficient and polite, always enquiring if everything is OK and if you need anything. Friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile. Travelling in Covid times can be stressful, but rest assured that the personnel at Beach Baby Lodge makes it stress free. Your departing Covid test gets booked on time, the transport to and from the test is arranged, the transport to the airport when leaving is arranged. Smooth, plain sailing all the way. Liza, Zelmé and the 2 ladies at reception (Anna and Jackie) are always around making sure everything is taken care of. And before I forget, they have a comprehensive menu in their restaurant and an excellent chef. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food from the kitchen. The sunset views are magnificent and the cocktails are perfect. If I ever get the opportunity to visit Zanzibar again there is only one place I will stay, Beach Bay Lodge. Thank you Liza, Zelmé and all your staff for making this an unforgettable experience

This is a wonderful private lodge with a team willing to help in every way. The hosts and owners, Lisa and Valme, go out of their way to ensure that you have an enjoyable stay.

The lodge is conveniently located in the middle of all the tourist attractions in Nungwe with everything in walking distance. The rooms are either right on the beach or face into a private garden for those who want a bit more privacy. We opted for the B&B option but had a number of lunches and dinners on the upstairs deck. The meals were great quality at good prices. Sundowners on the upstairs deck is also an amazing experience. We will be back.

It was not until a couple of days before our departure that the property's management informed us that we would not be able to stay at their hotel due to an overbooking with some other reservation the management before them had done (which they had the obligation to and should have been aware of). Therefore they would be placing us on a nearby hotel but we would still be having breakfast at their premises and they said we would be free to cancel everything if we wanted to. At this point there was not much we could do since everything else was already booked so I said ok. The other hotel was Faridu's, right next to Baby Lodge. the good thing about it was a privileged ocean view and the very spacious room but that was pretty much about it. The mirrored glass doors and windows only worked during daytime so at night we had to keep the lights down for privacy, there was little noise isolation so we kept hearing all the noises and screaming coming from Baby Lodge's bar also the room didn't offer much security with only a glass door (we were asked to sign some sort of info/declaration about this), the water in the bathroom was only a weak stream and it ended up by closing down in the morning. Even though this room was listed at half the price of Baby Lodge we were still asked to pay according to Baby Lodge's price and it was only after our complaining that the manager offered to reduce 20$ in our following transfer to Stone Town - which still did not cover the total price of the room. Also breakfast at Baby Lodge needed improvement in quality and quantity.

Good Day José, Thank you for taking the time in leaving us a review. We do apologize for the inconvenience and for the confusion of your booking. As we mentioned to you upon arrival that the rooms that you found that was half price was the bungalows at the back of the property and the sea view rooms are almost double as to what we at Beach Baby Lodge charged you per night. We once again do apologize sincerely for your awful experience with us. I hope one day you will give us the opportunity to show you what a wonderful hotel we are as well as how passionate we are at Beach Baby Lodge about our service as well as our customer satisfaction. Kind Regards, Beach Baby Lodge Owners

We really enjoyed our stay at Beach Baby, the place is in a great location and our apartment was literally a few feet away from the beach with sunbeds right outside our door on the private "beach" of the lodge. Everyone at Beach Baby make you feel welcome and always have a smile for you, nothing is too much trouble. Nice food, great upstairs bar with fantastic views, what more do you want?

I booked accommodation on Hotels.com in November at Beach Baby Lodge for the nights of 26 and 27 December, paid and received confirmation.

I arrived to check in and was advised that they had canceled on the 12th of December as they received a Russian group booking.

I received no communication in this regard and to date, no refund.

I am firstly disgusted that a lodge can drop paid guests at a whim during the month of December, and secondly for the way this was dealt with by the lodge and by hotels.com.

Would not recommend the booking platform or the lodge to any prospective travelers!!

Good Day Irene, We do apologize sincerely for the inconvenience that has been caused however what you are stating in your review is most definitely not entirely true as you have made your reservation on the 22nd of November and a cancellation request as well as and an explanation was sent to you 4 days later on the 26th of November as below stated. "Hi Irene I hope you are well. I have not so good news to break to you, somehow there has been an mixed up with bookings and we currently in contract with a Russian Tour Agency and we have 70% contracted rooms and 30% allotment rooms deal with them and the dates you have booked we thought will fit in but unfortunately not, we cant how ever except your booking. We are really sorry and would really try and assist you with other accommodation if needed. The 20th and 21st of December I have availability for incase. We do apologize for the inconvenience and if you would come to Nungwi we will offer you an dinner voucher as we would love to meet you still. Please except our apology and we do hope you understand. Kind Regards Liza Beach Baby Lodge Team Beach Baby Team Nungwi Nov 26, 5:37pm" In regards to the payment, Beach Baby Lodge are only able to charge the virtual card on the day after arrival which we were not able to do as your reservation has been cancelled and we received confirmation for Hotels.com that your reservation has been cancelled before your arrival date. We do however agree that the service you received from Hotels.com is unacceptable however Beach Baby Lodge Can Not be blamed for the miscommunication you received via the bookings portal. We have followed all necessary procedures which was shown to you on the day of arrival you also then claimed that you understand and we helped you to find alternative accommodation. We were disappointed at not being able to stay at Beach Baby as they were fully booked and it looks like an awesome place to stay. Instead we made do with visiting their rooftop bar for drinks and dinner on a number of occasions. Brilliant view (great place for watching sunsets and locals playing football on the beach below), chilled vibe, great staff and good food. Perfect place to spend evenings relaxing in Nungwi. They also appear to be one of the few places to offer breakfast at a reasonable price in Nungwi. We will be back - hopefully next time to stay!

What a great place! Super friendly staff. Awesome food. Right on the beach front, perfect location to watch the amazing sunset. Walking distance to other bars/restaurants, although the rooftop bar serves delicious food, lovely cocktails and has a cool vibe with great views, best spot in our opinion so no real need to go much further. The staff helped with taxis and advice about the local area, all spoke very good level of English. The breakfast options are the best we experienced in the country, the option to chose your morning meal from a menu is a nice touch. The rooms were nicely decorated with AC, mosquito net and a nice little terrace area outside. The two people who are running the place were super friendly, in particular Liza who took the time to chat with us daily making us feel absolutely at home and comfortable. Highly recommend.

What an amazing place.

If you are looking for accommodation in Nungwi, I would most definitely recommend Beach Baby Lodge.

Their staff is AMAZING, the food is EXCELLENT and the owners are hands on.

They have a restaurant open for everyone and, WOW, absolutely amazing. Its nearly impossible to choose a favorite dish as everything is delicious and well priced from grilled chicken and the fillet steak burger to the grilled octopus and seafood pasta.

They have a Rooftop Bar, the atmosphere is FANTASTIC, the service is good and the cocktails are breathtaking.

They have weekly darts competitions, table tennis, beerpong and a live band on Fridays.

We would’ve loved to stay there, but did not book far enough in advance, which is just proof for how good this place is.
I would rate them 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hello Lidia Harding. We charged you one night and 15% of the two weeks you booked. That is more than a 50% refund that we gave you. You never contacted us privately about it. You only left an review of it, on which we replied. We are sorry but the refund we gave you already is more than our cancellation policy. Sorry you had a bad one night stay with us. But you already got a major refund from us, you never paid a deposit, so there is nothing to refund. Please go and look at those sites again as both bathrooms are there. To avoid any assumptions again, we will label them now, you also never enquired about which bathroom you would like, before your check in date. Please go look on your facebook review as well, there is pictures of your room, and you will find those same pictures on our room clasifications. You were 10m away from the waters edge with a sea view. Closer than that you can't find in Nungwi. So sorry that it wasn't what you were looking for. But unfortunately we can't give you more of a refund than we already have.
