This is an absolutely wonderful place, I loved every minute; horses, dogs, team, food (they made me special food without query), animals, accommodation activities, ... faultless. I stayed at each lodge and they were both magical. There were families with young children staying too, couples,...More
We made our first visit to South Africa as a family of 5 with children 15,14,11 and booked Ants hill though Far & Ride. The pick up at Johannesburg airport was on time and after three hours we arrived, as soon as we entered the...More
It seems superfluous to add to all the other brilliant reviews. Nothing is too much trouble for The Ants Nest team, from the welcome on day one to the tears when we left. They provided gluten free for one, custard for another, fresh ginger tea...More

Ant's Nest would be a better option of the two (because of the drop-offs reference above) but the pool does not have a fence around it. I found the staff to be very family friendly - we had a 3 and an 8 year old with us. They are very flexible with regard to kids meals, etc. There are outdoor toys to amuse kids with, but you will need to keep an eye on a two year old because of the pool.

I would also say that some places recommendations on tips are quite high, others less so. Ants is on the high side, but that said we tipped on the high side here as they are so lovely. However, I wouldn't go too high on the daily recommendation if you are staying for two weeks,it will prove to be very expensive.
