We got married on this beautiful reserve on 12th February 2020. We were a party of 9 people (just immediate family) and we had exclusive use of the Magari lodge (satellite lodge to the main Jembisa house).

The experience, from start to finish, was absolutely magical. The lodge itself is a hidden gem, tucked away high up in the bush with stunning views over the Palala river below. It comprises a selection of beautiful, ensuite double bedrooms (separated from each other to give a real sense of privacy) and a communal living and dining area. The rooms were all spotlessly clean, and very well equipped and comfortable. Outside there is a gorgeous infinity pool, and multiple areas from which you can enjoy relaxing on a sun lounger, star gazing, and eating.

Each day, we were introduced to a variety of wonderful activities, including: game drives; fishing; bush walks; time by the pool; massages. Each day was different, and fantastic fun. The game drives are exceptional- we saw a world of intriguing wildlife and plantlife, and at no point did we bump into anyone else, making it feel like our own private game reserve. Even on the quieter days where the wildlife were proving to be elusive, Ed took the time to advise us on the variety of plantlife/insects/birdlife, and so we were always learning and having fun. At no point was the welfare or the privacy of the animals' compromised- Ed puts their welfare at the forefront of everything he does.

The wedding itself was everything we had dreamed of, and more. And this is entirely down to the wonderful Ed and Marinette. Coming from the UK, we did not have the chance to visit Magari before the wedding, but we needn't have worried. Ed and Marinette pulled out all the stops, and everything went smoothly. The day was literally perfect, and I could not have asked for more. If anyone out there is considering getting married here, I can wholeheartedly recommend doing so! You will not regret it, it was truly magical. A real highlight was the staff choir singing for us during our evening meal.

The rest of the wonderful staff working at Magari/Jembisa also deserve a mention: Sonny-Boy, Maggie, Maria, David and Cliff (to name but a few) are the kindest, most softly spoken people we have had the pleasure of meeting, and they keep the lodges running like clock work. Nothing was too much trouble, and the food was absolutely delicious. We were eating in a different location each night, which was a wonderful way to see the different parts of the lodge/bush.

I hope this review has given enough credit to the wonderful people and this gorgeous place. We will undoubtedly return in future. Thank you Magari!

We could not ask for a better time spent on our honeymoon than at Magari. All the staff were absolutely accommodating, friendly and professional. From going on a horse-back safari at Horizon, to having each of our meals beautifully prepared in a different location, to learning about the intricate, delicate and symbiotic systems of the wildlife, fauna and flora, to cycling and walking through the bushveld, to camping out under the stars - our every need was catered for before we even knew what we needed. Throughout our stay, attention was given to the finest of details to ensure everything ran smoothly. It has not been the first time that I spent some time at Jembisa, but it was my wife's. I have always told her about how special it is there and have been meaning to take her. This was certainly the best way to introduce her to this piece of paradise. Our honeymoon at Magari will be a memorable one and we will definitely be back, as soon as we get the opportunity! Thank you so much to the staff at Jembisa and Magari. If we could rate you with all the stars in the safari night sky, we would.

What a wonderfully descriptive review of Magari Safari Villa, thank you both so much! You have captured the very essence of what we do our very best to ensure each guest experiences, and we are delighted that your honeymoon was so enjoyable and memorable. Along with our highly experienced, friendly and service orientated staff, the breathtakingly beautiful Villa and surrounds, and our highly knowledgeable rangers, we are the perfect place for guests to enjoy every aspect of all that the Waterberg bushveld has to offer with regards to safari activities, nature and relaxation. We look forward to welcoming you both back soon.

South Africa is home for us and we have traveled extensively through every province. Each new place we go to is so beautiful in its own way, Jembisa included.

We have a two year old and we were looking for a bush getaway that would cater to his curiosity but would also be a bit of a romantic getaway for us on our 12 year anniversary. Most child friendly places we saw seemed to be more like resorts, while catering to kids all were removed from nature. Jembisa was a perfect happy medium, it gave us all of the style and adventure we were accustomed to as single travellers within the most amazing natural and learning environment for our son.

This place is truly exceptional.

I own a guest house and I’m familiar with the efforts and joys that come with hosting an array of guests. I have never been to a place that offers more authentic, effortless and kind customer service than Jembisa. It’s run by a couple, Lorraine and Andre, who make you feel like they just enjoy looking after you while imparting vast amounts of (palatable) knowledge. My son was running after Lorraine asking her to show him every bug and plant on the property, he was even rushing back from game drives to see her and he told André that he loved him as we were saying bye. Ha! They are the most wonderful and warm hosts and I’ll keep going back just to hang out with them.

The accommodation is immaculate, the grounds are inspiring, the team is warm and attentive, the food was phenomenal and the thoughtfulness beyond anything I’ve experienced. For each meal they set you up on a different part of the property (even taking you into the bush!) and the game viewing may not be as thrilling as being at a big five reserve but in some ways it’s better, because you can walk along Kudu, ride your bike past giraffe and just enjoy nature without chasing big animals.

This place is very special, if you’re lucky make it part of your visit to SA and if you live here it’s the kind of place that will make your annual list.

Thank you Lorraine, André, Cliff and David! We had the most perfect weekend getaway with you.

Note: For the COVID-conscious traveller, they are incredibly conscientious. They take temperatures daily, everyone wears masks but more importantly there is so much space and privacy that you don’t feel the burden of COVID while you’re here.

Thank you for your exceptional review which we are so pleased to receive given that you are yourself in the hospitality industry with a guest house of your own.You wrote so many wonderful comments that it is hard to focus on one area but we are particularly thrilled that we fulfilled your wish for blending both family and a romantic destination on a safari getaway. We also take great pride in being able to impart the love of the bushveld to children of all ages, and aim to create experiences and memories that will never be forgotten by both children and adults alike. We are delighted to have made your annual list and look forward to your return.

We spent a week over Christmas at Jembisa - a group of 14, aged 6 to much older, with 4 family friends in a house opposite. Brilliant fun! Whether relaxing by the pool or watching monkeys and mongeese in the garden, going on walks or bikes or quad bikes around the bush, we were so well looked after by a charming and very professional team. We went on wonderful game drives, including seeing the big 5 at a reserve nearby, and had a thrilling zip wire experience. We were treated to a talk on the stars one evening, followed by dinner in the bush and sleeping under the stars. All our delicious meals were in different places and we went on game drives every evening, spotting the giraffes and zebra before enjoying drinks and watching the sun go down. A treat from beginning to end. I can't recommend going to Jembisa highly enough.

It was such fun having your large party to stay and wonderful that you had a Safari Christmas here at Jembisa with lots and lots of activities and adventures. You made the most of the wide variety of things to do both here at Jembisa and nearby. The monkeys and mongeese are very entertaining to watch in the garden. Thank you also for the kind mention of our team.

What an amazing place! Just recently returned from the Lodge where we celebrated the marriage of my son.
Ed and Marionette were so welcoming together with all of the amazing people they have working with them.
The wedding was magical and we can’t thank everyone enough for making this trip a truly memorable and amazing experience from start to finish. Dreams are certainly made here!
The accommodation is secluded set in the heart of park with breathtaking views, we each had our own separate high quality accommodation with all meals prepared and made for us, which tasted mouth-wateringly amazing, we were thoroughly spoilt!
We saw plenty of wildlife whilst there as well as walks drives out and much more we thoroughly recommend a stay here. If you’re looking for that special venue for your special day then you will not be disappointed! Thank you again from The Alderton/Minter Families

There is always great excitement at Jembisa to host family weddings. We are thrilled that we could provide your son and his wife with everything that they had dreamed of for their wedding day. Our Magari Lodge where the lodging and reception was held is indeed a secluded magical venue with breathtaking views, and we appreciate the recommendation to others planning their special day.

Magari, a lodge just across the river from Jembisa Bush House, is a truely spectacular venue. The accommodation for our group of 3 couples was excellent with each of the three rooms overlooking the valley and the river below. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed and plenty of fridge space for our self-catering weekend. It was an awesome weekend spent cycling, walking and just relaxing in and enjoying the spectacular vista. I highly recommend Maragi and we have already booked a return visit.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are so happy that you enjoyed both the accommodation and the venue so much, as well as many of the activities available on the reserve. With Magari Safari Villa being available this year for both self-catering and fully-catered options, we have ensured that the kitchen is fully equipped and has ample fridge space to accommodate either option, and are pleased that you liked this. We look forward to welcoming you back for another amazing weekend at Magari.

Just spent 3 nights at Jembisa Bush Home on a full board basis. The house is absolutely beautiful. My room the Bird Room triple aspect had a small balcony with views over the beautifully kept gardens. Four poster bed complete with mosquito netting was so comfortable. Large dressing room and bathroom with lovely toiletries.
The food is delicious and so much care goes into everything.
All the staff are wonderful. Ed our guide was so knowledgeable, nothing was too much trouble even taking us star gazing.
Our last evening the staff laid on a delicious meal outside with an open fire, candles, lanterns and fairy lights made it absolutely magical. I thought that experience could not be beaten until we were taken for a cook-out breakfast by the river on our last morning. Luxurious full table service, full cooked breakfast followed by lessons in fly fishing!
When we were due to drive home my car had even been washed for me!
Everything is thought of and catered for including wonderful in-house massage.
I cannot wait to return.
Thank you Lorraine and the entire team for an unforgettable experience.

We spent four amazing days and nights at Jembisa and enjoyed every minute. The setting is beautiful and tranquil, the house has a warm, comfortable atmosphere which made us feel at home instantly. The staff are absolutely amazing: wonderful attention to detail, very friendly and genuinely happy to accommodate any requests (such as making breakfast pancakes and finding rabbits). The ranger Ed was fantastic and very knowledgeable - when we booked we were a little worried we'd miss the big game such as elephants and lion, however instead we learnt a heap of new facts about the bush and its animals and focused on completely different things than we normally do when on game drives which was both refreshing and relaxing.
Ed also had a lot of time for our little boy; showing him different animal tracks, teaching him how to fish and going out of his way to find the elusive (Easter?) 'bunny'. The staff even organised a chocolate bunny for our son on the day we departed, having become acquainted with his love of rabbits.
The food was plentiful and lovely and what was particularly enjoyable was the effort made to set up the meals in different spots around the garden or in the bush - making each meal time a bit of an adventure :-)
There were plenty of activities to keep us busy such as game drives, bush walks, swimming, a trampoline for the kids, a lovely children's playroom, cycling, enjoying a massage or star gazing.
Overall we had a wonderful relaxing time and are definitely looking forward to returning soon with our extended family. Thank you team Jemibsa: you guys are truly a family friendly bush escape which doesn't destroy the bank account.

3 generations of our family spent a week at Jembisa. It could not have been more perfect.
We've been to many game reserves in Southern Africa and we chose Jembisa precisely because we wanted a home away from home for Christmas- a relaxed, luxurious place where the staff bent over backwards to make our stay special and we could set our own rhythm to the day. Because Jembisa doesn't offer the 'Big Five' - it is uniquely positioned to offer activities that these other game reserves can't. We went on long morning hikes before breakfast, we fished by the river bank, the kids rode bikes around the estate, we went on sunset game drives to observe beautiful game (and mating giraffes!), we slept out under the stars (one night only thankfully) and swam and played tennis.
The location of every meal was carefully crafted, the food was delicious and the Jembisa team were outstanding. Another highlight was a fascinating star gazing talk which I would highly recommend. We would love to return one day. It could not have been more relaxing. Thank you Lorraine, Andre and Clayton.

Jembisa is the ideal family bush holiday, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we did not have to think for ourselves and every need was seen to by the wonderful team of staff. The lodge offers wonderfully spacious rooms and bathrooms with fantastic views across the bush, a stylish communal area and a well used (in our case) playroom. The food was delicious, David and his team really excelled and the house staff kept the house so clean which was an achievement with our 3 boys! We had the most brilliant time, saw lots of wonderful game and learnt so much about the African wildlife. I couldn't recommend Jembisa more for the perfect getaway for all ages - we had our 6 month baby with us too and wonderful Paulina looked after him when we were out on drives, I honestly think he is missing her calming singing voice. It was a Christmas we will remember forever and we will be back, as soon as we can be!
