This was our second visit to Izintaba, and it will not be our last. Its location in the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve and the quietness and tranquillity that we experienced, will make us return. We enjoyed so much going for long walks, surrounded by beautiful bushveld trees, growth and veld, with the quietness only broken by birdsong and the occasional warning snorts of game detecting our presence - or the sound of hooves of a startled group of zebra galloping away. This was sometimes the only way in which we would see game, by walking quietly, while listening. At other times, less nervous animals would stay, to be viewed quite openly. During this visit, we also drove out to the far Northern side of the farm, and walked an approximately 5 km circular route, most of it on the 4x4 trial. This walk was special, due to the feeling of seclusion and closeness to bushveld, and for the distant mountain views it offers. Afterwards we drove it for fun, although Ella again walked quite long sections, in preference to being in the car. For us, this is a major positive of Izintaba: that you can be in nature, experience the Waterberg bushveld and see game, on foot, rather than from a vehicle, guided tour or drive. (Although drives are available, depending on your preference)
During our first visit we stayed in Bushbuck, this time in Zebra. We appreciated the thatched rondawel based design, with its interesting and practical internal layout. It is spacious, light and airy, with two en-suite bedrooms, a dining and living area with fireplace and kitchen. Zebra has an additional loft sleeping space, accessible by a wooden ladder type stairway. We appreciated the tasteful furnishing and décor. We found the kitchen especially well equipped. We wholly approved of the lack of a television set. The setting of the unit, the outside braai lapa and its nearby thatch covered dining area made us feel close to nature and bushveld. The accommodation is so pleasant that one can stay in and quietly relax, read, birdwatch, or listen to bird sounds, instead of driving or walking, depending on your mood.
Thank you again, Nikki, for another enjoyable stay and for your hospitality.

My husband is an engineer and detail regarding small things wins him over. We had so much appreciation for the outdoor braai"gat", the cleanliness of the chalet, the wonderful bush (been visited during our braai by bush babies), the comfort of the chalet, just everything. And we could take our dog with (he is well behaved and not allowed on furniture). We had wonderful hikes, did 8.5km in the morning and another 6.5km in the afternoon. It is beautiful, with our special favorite the "savannah" at the dam. The staff is friendly. What else does one need?

Lovely location and we had a wonderful chalet (Zebra), with books which was great as there is no TV in the chalets. The dogs loved the fenced in garden and the long walks we took them on through the walking trails.
The Bush was stunning and with only the sound of nature, thick due to the recent heavy rains but we soon learnt where to see the game.
At one time we were the only guests in the reserve so felt really isolated, as it is off the grid, unless you go to the Boma, for WiFi and TV
One thing, although the map of the drives is marked with numbers we only ever saw 2 so that was a small concern.
The staff were excellent, polite and friendly and as it was only 3 hours (with a stop) from northern Johannesburg a easily reached location

In all we had a beautiful view from our cottage. Very silent and far away from the Pool and other cottages. We enjoyed our walks but we had to travel carefull on the roads even while we drove in a SUV that had good ground clearance we had to dig ourselfs out of thick sand twice. This is roads is more for a 4x4 an not a 2x4. (especially after and during rain) Rather take drive with a ranger or walk or use a mountain-bicycle. If your planning to get away from the media it is aplace to go to. hardly any reception for cellpones while at night you can stroll in the roads and listen and look.
Managment try hard to make you feel welcome with their warm welcome and advise on how to travel to the reserve. All the while we were there we did not see the other geusts in the bush. We saw almost all the wild animals

What a pity we had only booked one night! Next time a minumum of 3 nights.
Nikki and Andrew are great hosts and Izintaba is a beautiful farm. The chalets are completely private, spacious and well equipped. We stayed in Kudu and loved it! You can sit and have your morning coffee on the stoep, and breakfast under the thatch of the lovely lapa, while you listen to the birds chattering away, or watch the odd inquisitive warthog peep through the bush. We had a couple of giraffes pop in for a drink in the pool (and perhaps to do a bit of human watching).
The game drive with Andrew was great. Izintaba is not a 'Big 5' farm, but there is a good variety of game and Andrew, pointing out different trees and bush types, made the drive really interesting.
The boma dinner served by Nikki and Salome was delicious and beautifully presented.
All in all a fabulous stay, and the best value for money you can hope for.

We loved our stay at Izintaba with it's secluded chalets, swimming spots, and opportunities to walk and drive to view game. The giraffes were even there to greet us at the chalet when we arrived! We enjoyed the feeling that this is a place for nature lovers. We travelled with our toddler and everything was well set up for him with a cot and a fence around the chalet which helped us relax.
Nikki and Andrew were gracious hosts and offered lots of helpful advice and responded so quickly to our requests. While it would be easier to get around the reserve with a 4x4 we managed fine with a sedan.

We had the most amazing weekend at Izintaba. The house (Izintaba Lodge) is beautiful, with a lovely pool, sun loungers and undercover area outside to relax. We booked dinner in the boma on Saturday evening and breakfast on Sunday morning - the food was outstanding and we were very well looked after by Nikki (excellent host) and the staff. Had great mountain bike rides, walks, game spotting and sundowners at the lookout point. Could've stayed for another week!

Delicacy of the landscape, charm and comfort of the accommodation, freedom to come and go, on foot, by car along the well-maintained (but poorly signposted) trails of this private Waterberg reserve just an hour from Vaalwater. The "Kudu" house, designed for 8, round, surrounded by a very pleasant stoep, not overlooked, offers the luxury of a small blue pool, a very large braai area, an outdoor table under stubble, and easy access to an immense mineral space, red and ocher, under an infinite sky. Simply heavenly. To the south of the reserve, a small lake for kayaking. I recommend a minimum of 2 to 3 days, bringing everything that will need to be eaten and drunk. Except to reserve meals at the boma, to schedule in advance. Giraffes, zebras and antelopes, no dangerous fangs, therefore peace.

My wife and I visited Izintaba on a mid-week special to take a break from the business of everyday life. The reserve with its large variety of wild life was beautiful. We did some mountain biking in the reserve which was great (even with its sandy patches) and took a long hike for birding. We cooled down in the swimming pool every day and took an early morning hike with some coffee and snacks to one of the decks to watch the sun rise. We looked forward to each evening to watch the sun set, braai and see the inquisitive bush baby come out for the night. Our car remained in the shade under the carport at the chalet for the duration of our visit. The chalet is equipped with everything one could possibly need. We will certainly recommend Izintaba to our friends and family as breakaway. Thank you Nikki and Andrew for this blessing. We loved it.

We needed to get out to the bush, make a fire, gaze at the stars, rejuvenate our battered African wanderlust...
After randomly searching for reasonable accomodation on the web, I narrowed our search down to a few venues, of which we eventually selected Izinthaba. What a fantastic choice. Zebra was superbly appointed, had a great outdoor fire / cooking area, and the pool was a short walk from the unit. The power failed for a day, but hey.. us SAfricans are used to that, aren't we? Izinthaba had naturally provided for that as there was a supplementary gas stove and bottle in the kitchen cupboard... so we could brew an all important filter coffee.
We spent early mornings driving the numerous routes on the game farm, and was not disappointed with the game sightings. The 4x4 trail to the top end of the farm was a nice addition. Our hosts Nicky and Andrew were fantastic, their staff polite and efficient. I would highly recommend their venue. Why no 5 star rating? We had a small challenge initially, but Andrew quickly listened and took action. Thank you for that
