Great place. You can even go on a walking safari on your own or on a bike tour, if the bikes work for you. It was great to see giraffes, while walking around in Kololo. The people working there were nice. Prepare for the cold houses in August.

Very beautiful well maintained lodge with extra possibilities like hiking, cycling in between the animals and swimming in the river. Easy to reach from Joburg, but at the south of Welgevonden game reserve which limits the area for game driving. Love the all inclusive option which gives you no surprises at the end.

Please contact me for more information. Long story short. False advertising on website Terrible communication False promises led to expectations not being met. The entire experience was soured from beginning to end in dealing with the General Manager who has been unpleasant and unprofessional. Please note. Something as small as a smiling face asking how we enjoyed our game drive and offering us lunch would have avoided this complaint. The way Dylan handled the situation was perfect to come out and apologise and offer us lunch. However the experience had already been soured by the general managers inefficiency to correctly inform her staff of our presence and promised expectations. Please note this is not a complaint on the lodge nor the service they may offer. This is purely and simply a complaint against the general manager.

Good day Shannon, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you feel that your expectations were not met during your day visit. Kindly provide us with more information regarding what you marked as false advertising? I personally dealt with your booking while being on leave, since it involved hiring additional staff. As an exception, we pre-booked a 6 hour game drive for you as a day visitor, and even got an extra Guide in to facilitate this, since none of our in house guests wanted to book this activity. You arrived around 5.30am. The gate was unlocked for you and our Guide welcomed you with coffee at our restaurant. Everyone was fully informed about your arrival and all services you booked regarding the game drive were rendered. The feedback I got from the Guide and Head Chef afterwards was that you loved the drive and the snacks provided. The day before your arrival, I offered you the option of staying for lunch after your drive. Your confirmation by email was received after hours and since your game drive started the next day early, your response was not picked up timely. After your game drive, when you indicated you wanted lunch, our Head Chef Dylan offered you the full range of lunch menu options for that day. However, you declined the offer and said you weren’t hungry. The staffs feedback was that it seemed that it had upset you that the table was not set yet after your game drive. However, we have met everything we advertised: a full 6-hour game drive (even a private one) and we were able to provide the lunch you confirmed last minute. We personally did not interact since I was not on duty during your stay. There was no interaction between us besides the standard booking emails, so I am a bit surprised to hear you felt our communication was unpleasant and unprofessional. I can fully understand the disappointment when you noticed the table wasn’t set after your game drive, and that I was not there personally to handle the situation, but I do feel our staff provided you with a suitable solution. We will however ensure that we will adjust our procedures regarding getting back to our emails after hours, to ensure last minute booking requests can be attended to quicker. With kind regards, Tanya General Manager Kololo Game Reserve

Wonderful stay at Kololo with our boys (5 and 2). All staff members were very attentive and qualified. Very kids-friendly. Special thanks to Joe our game driver for the wonderful safaris and expecially the elephant tracking (my eldest still talks about it). Wish we stayed longer. Thank you again for the wonderful stay and care provided! One small comment: the bike paths are not that easy for young children to use, it was a bit difficult and rough for our eldest.

The property is not well maintained, generally the lodge we stayed in and the main restaurant and lounge are run-down. We did not have wifi in our room, but this was advertised as an amenities. I could not work remotely and this was a big issue. We had a terrible experience at reception on arrival and during check out, the receptionist did not make us feel welcome. She seemed totally overwhelmed. The only positive point would be the game drives.

Good day Quentin, We're a bit surprised by this review, especially seeing that the one sent to management by email said: "We have been coming to Kololo for the past 15 years (only for game drives) and have never been deceived by the hospitality we received at reception and during the drives. We (...) have sent many tourists to your place over the years, we have had very positive feedback from our guests. It was our first time staying at Kololo ourselves and we were very sad to have to leave earlier. Our feedback is rather positive except for the unfortunate experience at the reception both on arrival and at check out. We felt that <<Name removed>> was overwhelmed and thus did not have time to care for the guests." Kindly note that we have addressed the issue at the Front Desk extensively with you. Kololo even refunded your second night when you said you had to leave earlier due to a Family Crisis (not due to you not being able to work remotely), even though our T&C's clearly state no refunds are applicable, especially over our peak holiday season. Management did not get any complaints about the wifi from you or form other guests. All rooms have their own router. Should something not work in your room, the only way we can resolve this is if it is reported. All in all, we regret the interaction with our receptionist but we cannot match your review to the email feedback you sent last week. Kind regards, Kololo

A friendly welcome at reception. The Lodge is situated next to Welgevonden and they also have access to the big five reserve. We had an afternoon game drive that offered great game viewing. All the restaurant staff were friendly and we had very tasty meals. We had a very comfortable room.

After a couple of miles of off-road/gravel driving you step foot at Kololo. Right away you can tell this a beautifull place. It is located perfectly to the impressive Welgevonden game reserve. It lays in a safe spot for trekking and mtb'ing while having a personal gate (right at the door) to a wonderfull big 5 reserve. The lodges are of fine quality and look the part aswell. We found all staff to be very nice and professional, including their own park rangers. Would definitly recommend.
