Fynbos Estate, an hour's drive from Cape Town, is situated in the Paardeberg Mountain close to Malmesbury. Our beautiful old Victorian Farmhouse and guest cottages are surrounded by lush gardens, vineyards and fields and 270 hectares of mountain fynbos. We make wine under the Dragonridge label, and there is also a magical venue called the Pavilion which seats up to 80. This estate is a paradise for all nature lovers and for those who appreciate good food, fine wine and comfortable accommodation. With easy walks, spectacular views and flora and fauna, Fynbos is ideal for retreats, workshops, getaways for family and friends as well as stopovers. We offer self-catered, part-catered and fully catered options and serve delicious homemade food using, wherever possible, farm produce. Our Pavilion with its wooden floors and mountain views provides workshop space and an ideal venue for parties, weddings and conferences. We are child friendly and have a swimming pool under the mountain.

Enjoyed doing a braai for the first time ever in my life, delicious lamb. Thats just the food. Had an incredibly peaceful, contemplative and joyful break away from it all. After nearly 6 months in lock down this was a first outing and so worthwhile. Very simple cottage, clean, comfortable and with a log fire to read a book and sip on wine.

We have chosen the perfect place to have our wedding. Not only does Fynbos Estate have exceptional venues, oak trees and accommodation, but it is the people, Diana, Johan and the staff who made our weekend a magical time we will always remember. Jacques went early on to look at Fynbos. He send me the photos and we booked it immediately for the most beautiful winter’s day in August. I was still working in Kazakhstan and emailed Diana with all the questions I had. She responded promptly and assured me that everything will be to my liking. I cannot thank them enough for the ideas and help. My wedding coordinator was in touch and when she came to set up they welcomed her with open arms, helped where they could to prepare everything. Our ceremony was held in The Cellar and dinner at The Perdestal. It was a small wedding of only family. The Perdestal was the perfect choice for an intimate dinner. The Friday the family arrived, Diana and Johan was there to greet us all. The Friday evening we had a wine tasting that Johan organised and we were spoiled for choice tasting all the Dragonridge wines. This was a perfect idea as the guests all decided on the wine for the wedding dinner. The accommodation is divine. We rented all the accommodation at Fynbos for the weekend. All the family got together at the Main House for dinner and breakfasts. So spacious with beautiful facilities, enough fridges for all the wine! The stoep was the drawing point…everyone enjoying family time together around the big table. Our wedding day was magical. Diana was there, every step of the way making sure that everything was on point. The food was prepared with great care. Everything was sent out on time and it was absolutely delicious. There were plenty of food…enough for second and third helpings. The malva poeding was my favourite!! I told my sister at one point before the ceremony that I am not nervous at all…and her response: ‘It is this place! It is so calm and relaxed.’ And that is exactly what Fynbos Estate is…a magical farm with a relaxed atmosphere where one can unwind and smell the fresh air. Where we felt like a part of the Fynbos family. Thank you Diana, Johan and staff for being such a big part in making our wedding truly special!!

We recently spent three days at Fynbos Estate, where we ran a workshop for 24 people as part of the South African Program for Ecosystem Change and Society. It was really a wonderful venue, with the perfect atmosphere for supporting our work and discussions, and leaving everyone feeling inspired and re-energized. The food was delicious and we experienced very friendly and helpful service. Thanks very much to Diana, Johan and Romayne, we hope to visit again!

Thank you so much for this lovely review. From our side we so enjoyed the workshop too - albeit from the outside. You were all such open friendly people - and we were happy to support the work you do. Yes we hope to see you again. Diana, Johan and Romayne

We highly recommend this wonderful place. The hosts, Diana and Johan, took good care of us. We had a relaxing stay. We walked in the nearby natural park, which has an amazing fauna, we barbequed, and Johan, the winemaker, guided us through the winery, which was varied and exciting, and tasty! We hope we will be back sometime. This place has a lot of opportunities for different occasions. Thank you for having us! Best regards Monica and Tonny Norway

This winery with its Dragon Wines is the best place to visit for Organic wines and is off the beaten track. A real family wine estate with accommodation and conference center. Johan and his wife are very friendly and have their own nature reserve.

We have just had our third Fynbos annual meeting with PhD and Masters students. Typically, we spend 5 days on the farm, working throughout the day and relaxing and eating together. The accommodation and facilties in general are ideal. There is plenty of private space to work, but also enough rooms for small groups to have conversations and discuss texts. The hosts are very friendly and accommodating, and if there are any special requests, this is never a problem. Fynbos is also close enough to Stellenbosch and Cape Town to enable half-day return visits, should it be impossible for people to remain on the farm for the entire duration of the workshop.

We had the most amazing wedding day at Fynbos Estate in April 2018. Due to circumstances outside of our control we had to re-plan our destination wedding with less than 6 weeks to go. If it hadn’t been for Diana our fairy tale day would not have happened. Everything was handled very professionally, the venue is absolutely stunning, the food is to die for, and the staff who worked on the day made everything so easy for us. I cannot recommend Fynbos more highly. We used the Farmhouse accommodation for all our guests, and The Owl Cottage for me to stay and get ready in. All of our guests raved over the hospitality, and just how amazing and tranquil Fynbos is. Thank you so much for everything. You have given us a beautiful day & great memories, which we will cherish forever.

We hosted an intensive two day research design workshop at Fynbos and couldn't have asked for a better location! Between intensive thesis design, advising and creative writing sessions in the airy workshop marquee, students and staff were treated to hearty lunches and short walks in the surrounding nature reserve, which allowed the creative juices to flow freely. The students were housed in the expansive historic main house with its generously sized, comfy rooms and sprawling veranda, while staff members shared cosy rooms in the surrounding cottages. The delicious dinners and accompanying wine tastings (organic, minimal sulphites, no headache!!!) were certainly one of the highlights and the homemade ice-creams (particularly the salted caramel!) was an instant hit with everyone! Diana and her staff were very friendly and super accommodating, always making sure we had everything we needed. We cannot recommend Fynbos Estate highly enough and are already planning our next writing retreat there.

Our wedding venue was the beautiful Fynbos Estate just outside Malmesbury. This rustic working farm held all the elements that I was looking for. Unique, beautiful views, delicious food and wine. All the hallmarks of a truly memorable occasion. I want to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU to DIanne and all the wonderful staff at Fynbos Estate for making our wedding day THE BEST day of our lives. All our guests have not stopped talking about the wonderful food and wine and the beauty of the farm. Our little cottage that we stayed in was perfect! I cannot wait to go back

Thank you to Fynbos Estate for making every part of our wedding special and easy. Working with Diana and Johan and their team is a pleasure; and they helped us put together a perfect celebration. The wines are excellent, the food is delicious and plentiful, the grounds are gorgeous, and the dance floor beckons. What more could you ask for in a venue? I wish I could give 10 stars.
