We stayed here in late January for a week. The weather was a little hit and miss but that meant we tried more of the hotels activities which were excellent. We had a 4 year old and it was the perfect hotel for us. Having an adult and a kids pool (personally we thought the kids was the better situated pool as overlooked the sea) was great as we never felt like we were annoying any honeymooners with noise! The water sports were fantastic. Glass bottom boat ( we saw a sea turtle), paddle boards and small sailing boats all free. If you are keen to snorkel bring your own gear as you can’t loan the hotels unless you go on the organised (free) tour twice a day.
The kids club had a wonderful selection of activities, best thing for us was the blow up water slide with bubbles but to be honest we didn’t use much as we were in the pool the whole time.
Lots of mentions on trip advisor about the amount of coral on the beach but they do seem to clear this by burying it in holes (they are not allowed to remove) personally we loved the fact the beach felt a bit wild and full of nature, lots of coral and shells to explore. I couldn’t think of anything worse than staying on a man made beach on an island which has so many incredible ones.
Food was fantastic, lots of choices for little one at each restaurant. Breakfast buffet was a highlight for us every morning, Jennifer and her freshly pressed juices made it even more special. We got the chance to eat at the golf club which was another level- smoked fish and meat on a wood fire- out of this world!
We loved the coco shack with its beach swings (the rum filled coconuts were a nice treat), the hammocks dotted all over the grounds and the fact that the hotel was so naturally manicured. Huge banyan tree’s, vines, so many tropical flowers and palms, an array of birds, giant snails, fruit bats soaring above, it really felt as if you were living in a luxurious 5* nature park.
We hardly spent any time in the room but they were comfortable (but perhaps didn’t feel as 5* as the rest of the hotel) huge king size beds -wow so comfy, we liked the fact you had a pillow menu.
Getting a massage included was a v nice touch and of course led to booking more. We thought the spa area was beautifully relaxing (had a peek at Telfairs next door and actually prefered Awali’s)
Yoga teacher was amazing. Went to all his classes and would highly recommend a private lesson. A true Indian gentleman with a cheeky sense of humour.
Would we go back 100%

This was our second stay at the Heritage Awali. It is a great hotel which doesn't disappoint.

Check-in in welcoming and professional. Rooms are large and comfortable. They have fridge/bars, beverage making facilities, a good TV and wifi. The beds are large and comfortable with lovely duvets, pillows and linens. Bathrooms are large and well fitted with complementary toiletries and abundance of fluffy towels.

Food in all restaurants is very good, with plenty of choice for all tastes. Some of the al la carte menus did offer overly complex dishes. Personally, I enjoy good, local food well cooked and presented. It should be kept simple.

The Pools, Beach, Spa, tennis courts and garden area are a great place to enjoy a holiday experience. My husband played golf a couple of times, despite not being on the golf/gourmet all inclusive. Each round way paid at the hotel with the addition of golf buggy hire.

Staff are all very pleasant and helpful. We will be back. Well done to all.

Spent 11 nights here with my family to celebrate my sisters 40th. She had been pre-covid and wanted to go to a familiar place as we were now both travelling with small children for the first time. The resort is really great for babies and kids, mainly because the staff are just so welcoming and wonderful with children. The staff that we spoke to regularly all knew the kids names from day one and spoke to them whenever they saw them. The facilities are good including sterilisers and baby baths in the room on request. We’ve chosen adult only resorts for the last 20 years and so a pool full of kids was new to us but very lovely :) and inflatables allowed!!

We found the resort itself really lovely, the gardens are beautiful and well kept (the gardeners are on it straight away after heavy downpours) and the beach lovely with clear waters. This is our third time to Mauritius and I found this location probably the best, especially as we got to saw phenomenal sunsets every evening.

Food was excellent in the a la carte restaurants, I’m personally not a fan of buffets for many reasons so we mainly only had breakfast here. We paid for a celebratory breakfast on the beach one morning and it made a nice change to be served breakfast. A big thank you to Varsha for arranging this, especially as plans changed due to poor weather. Drinks were good quality and we loved the South African rose being served.

Unfortunately the snack bar was closed and so that meant we ate in Infinity Blue for nearly all our lunches. Loved this place though some lunches took nearly 3 hours! Not ideal with kids plus we missed out on the sunshine!

We went to Le Telfairs C-Beach club twice for the day and loved it, the change of scene was welcome and the style of the pool, ambience, restaurant and beach beds felt exclusive. The Sunday buffet was impressive!

The spa was great, we had extra treatments above the complimentary one as they were wonderful!

For me, the only let down was the room. It is in need of a refirb. The bed was so uncomfortable, we could here everything from the room upstairs and the bathroom had various issues. The Venetian blinds are also not child friendly as the cords hang down. We had to constantly ask for the mini bar and water to be topped up on a daily basis. The room was however very clean which is the most important and spacious.

We had a fantastic holiday and I would definitely recommend visiting. I do agree that compared to other hotels this is possibly more 4* with some things, but I was just so grateful to be away with my family, long awaited after the pandemic, and in such a beautiful country in a beautiful hotel run by beautiful staff :)

Starting on a positive note; great staff, very attentive. Lovely outdoor coastal setting. Unfortunately this resort is NOT 5*. Average rooms, ours was very dark with most of the hotel looking a bit tired. This is very much a family hotel whilst we were there, therefore, couples may wish to look elsewhere. Food wise, the Indian restaurant was good and the Infinity Blue restaurant was good for lunch with great views. The evening meal experience was underwhelming; the food is not fantastic as others have reviewed. Wines were average to ok, on that note, the minibar in the room was poorly stocked; a couple of mini bottles of poor Sauvignon Blanc, some beer and coke. Room service for brekky very good. Also, room service supplied us with a good supply of still and sparkling water after my wife fell ill on 2nd day. The C Beach club, 400m away, is a lovely spot to spend the day with various water activities and restaurant/bar. At checkout we were asked how was our stay; on explaining our disappoint with this resort, we were simply handed a form; poor PR in our opinion. We are fortunate to live in Mauritius and have frequented a number of resorts. Our memories of Awali will not be that great although in fairness to this resort, we did enjoy some happy moments. In summary; for couples, consider elsewhere, maybe the sister hotel next door. If you’re hoping for a gastro experience, you probably won’t experience it here. If you’re hoping for top shelf red wine etc, this doesn’t appear to be on the all inclusive list. If you’re relying on the on line pics for a hotel room of your dreams; this is not how our room was. Finally, great coastal position and the resort was very clean

Dear Sean H, Greetings from the Sunny Awali of Heritage Bel Ombre ! We are very glad to read that you did appreciated some happy moments at the resort including the location, the great staff, the C Beach Club, room service and the cleanliness of the resort. On the other hand, you have emphasised areas of improvement which you felt were not to your expectations and rest assure that your feedback will help us to continuously improve our standards while respecting our promises. Effectively Heritage Awali is rated among the Best Family Resort in Mauritius and we are regretful that you didn’t refer to our fact sheet available on our Website as this would have help you while choosing your weekend break. However, at Heritage Awali we care for all our guests and we have an Adults-only pool which was opposite to your room ( 8207 ) , an adults-only corner in Savana Restaurant and an adults-only Restaurant namely Zafarani Indian Cuisine. We are saddened to read that the Culinary Experience was a disappointment as this is a strength as per our different existing measures ( Social Media, Guests Questionnaire, Guests feedback etc ). The All-Inclusive wine list consists of 26 wines which include Champagne, Sparkling Wines, Wines from Europe and the New World. Once more we are saddened that our offer didn’t meet your expectations. For wine connoisseur that I’m convinced you are , fine wines are also available against a credit that is mentioned on our wine list. May I use this opportunity to advise all readers and our future travellers that the entire team is always keen to have your feedback during your stay with the objective to recover the holiday experiences when things are not up to your expectations. Mr Sean, I sincerely regret some disappointment during your stay but take comfort in that you did enjoy some happy moments. Warmest regards, Christophe Ramdiane General Manager

I have visited Mauritius many times as a travel counsellor and also for my own family holidays. I knew the property and loved the location so we booked 3 Deluxe Ocean View rooms for 12 nights Sept 2022.
The room was unchanged from previous visits, spacious and welcoming with an excellent housekeeping service. There were some irritating maintenance issues -
The extractor fan in the bathroom and toilet was poor and often not working. The bathroom is internal so no windows which therefore relies on a good extraction system.
No bed change pillow some of our rooms had these to allow housekeeping to change the sheets.
No phone information to show numbers of various departments the actual phone buttons did not work there is a list of numbers you call but without the list it’s frustrating.
The gardens are pristine and generally the staff are extremely efficient and friendly. In particular reception and the bar staff at the pool bar and the seafood restaurant.

It’s hard not to be impressed with the location of both Heritage properties however we were frustrated at the lack of AI across both hotels. In particular because both property’s sell AI.

Our biggest concern was the lack of consistent dietary management and this resulted in some very serious dietary issues.
Two of our party are Vegan this is not just a lifestyle choice it’s a health requirement as my daughter in law is unable to process and dairy products. The hotel was notified before arrival and a meeting set up with the chef to discuss menus which sounded reassuring but sadly the reality was far from acceptable. Yes if the chef was available when you visited the restaurant he would make a vegan meal but this was hit and miss and the main restaurant could easily have vegan area offering a daily choice. Shockingly they were served meals with butter Omelett with cheese pasta with cheese pizza with cheese ….pancakes made with milk the list went on. In total we had 5 meetings with chefs and managers and whilst their attitude was keen to help they were unable to deliver. Staff need training to understand just what vegan means including no dairy, A daily vegan menu should be offered across the resort and clearly identified. Three days of our holiday were lost because of the poor vegan management and we had to visit the medical centre twice because dairy had been used in the vegan meals and my daughter in law was seriously ill. Our holiday cost in excess of £20,000 we expected far far better of a 5***** resort.

I have just rebooked to return Sept 23 and in picking our hotel we only looked at ones that activity manage Vegan diets and offered Vegan Menus to all areas. We are not returning to The Awali so it’s their loss.
it’s seriously time to wake up and change your practise and include interesting Vegan options at each meal service and in every restaurant.

My wife and 2 daughters (all adults) attended this hotel for 2 weeks in December 2021. We had chosen the Awali Heritage because we were looking for a fully inclusive hotel on the island which we had visited on 2 previous occasions. Previous visits had revealed just how expensive food and in particular drink had been and together with this our package (premium inclusive) also included a trip and free spa reatments. The hotel is well run and lovely. To put detail to that we found the staff in particular to be exceptional. The food was also very good in all the restaurants we visited. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the air conditioning perfect. If we were to be very (and l mean very) picky we would suggest that the rooms were starting to feel dated. Also the difference between “all inclusive” and “all premium inclusive” was very difficult to follow and it would help considerably if this was made clearer on the website and when reaching the hotel. Something along the lines of what car manufacturers do when considering the different extras that come with each model of the same car. The beach could also be cleared of dead coral each morning by tractor as was done by all the other hotels along the beach. These are minor things however. The free golf was an added bonus as the course was in good condition and above average. We will be returning

After searching for weeks for the right resort to go to with our 10month old and 26month old we decided on this resort for various reasons. They have a "baby day care" that no other restort offered. In the information received it also said that there is 24/7 room service INCLUDED in the all inclusive package (with a tray charge) as well as snacks/french fries/bauqets served daily during the day at the pool. This was perfect because small children does not always want to eat at certain times and usually over lunch time they sleep. I was VERY DISSAPOINTED to find out on day 1 that there were no food served outside breakfast / lunch / dinner time as was sold to us. There were 24/7 room service BUT the menu and the food was sub standard plain awful and the tray charge you find out when you order is a set price that is very high for a south african and you can buy burgers and chips for the whole family for the price - what is the point of all inclusive then? The food was great some days and others not so much... I ordered the same dish for luch a couole of days apart and got a completely different dish the second time, same ingredients but not used the same way. Also what the menu says is not always the ingredients on the dishes you get. I would say 30% of the staff is very friendly and was welcoming and helpfull and always smiling the other 70% made us feel unwelcome and that they dont enjoy their jobs or the guest being there. The service is slow especially at the pool for drinks you wait a very long time. The hotel is beautiful. The room has everything you need. The lady that cleaned our room Ansha was the highlight of the stay she always greeted the children and ask about our day and even asked me the nap routine to be sure to know when she can clean our room. Overall we enjoyed our stay except for the room service and the fact that food was not available as was stated when the package was sold to us and we really wanted that because a couple of times lunch did not suite us because our children was sleeping and our 26month old was always hungry before dinner time - which is to late for a childrens resort as dinner only starts at 7pm when most small children are sleeping already. The spa treatment that was included was wonderful BUT the prices of the spa is rediculious if you are a South African clearly they cater for the european market which is just sad. One 45min message is the same price as 3 of the same treatments in South Africa. Want to say that we will go back but dont think we will, overall we were dissappointment and expected a lot more for the price we paid

Dear Member of TripAdvisor, We would like to thank you first of all for your recent stay at Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort. It was a great privilege for my Team and I to be at your service. As mentioned in your review we are indeed among the only hotel in Mauritius with a free Baby Club. We would like to reassure you that as part of our All Inclusive we propose room service with only a small supplement for Tray Charge as mentioned on our actual Fact Sheet. We also cater for baby food even before opening of our restaurants which can easily be ordered at the Restaurant Booking Desk. Kindly rest assured that we have registered all your observation and they have all been taken to heart. On behalf of my team and on my personal name, I would like to present you our sincere apology if ever we did not exceed your expectations. However we have taken good note of your appreciation of the comfort of your room as well as the excellent work done by Ansha who is an Asset to the resort. Great hotel, world class service, good food, nice atmosphere, calm and reprising, good food from the restaurants Infinity Blue, the staff are great and the restaurant is a perfect location in a beach front and the staff at the Zenzibar is customer centric, they know each of their customers and even remember their favourite drinks. The staff are very friendly and take great care of guests. The kids club is fantastic, kids do not want to leave from there, the staff ensures the comfort of each child. The spa is also of high standards. Recommend the hotel, families with kids will enjoy their stay.

We travelled as a family of four (children aged 4 and 1.5) in September and stayed for 10 nights.

Facilities

The hotel setting is absolute stunning. The view as you arrive, the grounds themselves, the pools, the beach… it’s all absolutely faultless. The beach is a bit sharp once you walk out a certain distance due to coral, but nothing adults can’t walk on and there are swim shoes in the shop for children. The lagoon is shallow all the way out to the coral which means you are rarely out of your depth even with children, just be careful of some of the wildlife out there!

Food & Drink

We ate at two of the three restaurants aside from the main buffet. In all honesty the buffet food was a good enough quality at dinner that you were better to book lunches at these from our experience, but food was excellent across the board. I would recommend paying the extra for the giant prawns in the infinity blue restaurant, they were of a size that I have never seen before. Service was a little slower in the a la Carte restaurants but I assume that is because we came at the change of the season and so they may be slightly understaffed for the volume of people here, either way it was not cause for complaint. My wife is a coeliac and was catered for brilliantly, with the chef walking her through available options and often cooking pizza/pasta dishes with GF ingredients on request. Highly recommended in that respect.

Staff

Really great people, across the entire complex. The staff at the infinity blue bar were especially good from start to finish and we rarely waited longer than 30 seconds to get a drink. Olivier deserves a special mention for the fact that he would bring drinks to us before we even knew we needed them. The team seemed to work long hours and a lot of consecutive days but their service and hospitality never faltered. The cleaning staff were also excellent and would routinely check our rooms multiple times over the course of the day, it was spotless from start to finish and bedding and towels changed routinely on request although the hotel clearly takes preservation of the country and green living seriously so advise against it daily. On that note they were clearly well equipped to manage recycling and look after waste in a sustainable manner, as well as having solar installations etc in place across the hotel as well.

It is worth saying that we booked Mauritius as a destination knowing it is predominantly a couples/honeymoon destination but we wanted to show our kids a beautiful part of the world. The hotel is definitely family friendly, but is geared towards the majority of their customers which seem to be couples so food is a little later than you might have at home in the evening (beginning at 7pm). Worth baring in mind for any parents travelling, but nothing we couldn’t fix with an extra nap in the afternoon.

Positives +

Pretty much everything.

Could be better -

Bringing eating hours forward slightly (maybe 6pm) to accommodate those with young children.

From the second we walked into our hotel we felt a calmness and chilled out atmosphere. The views were absolutely stunning and the hotel is surrounded by beautiful greenery and beautiful beach. The staff couldn’t do enough for us and everyone that works there greets you with a smile. A special mention to Davisen who always made sure our glasses were never empty and brought us different cocktails to try. We really liked the Indian restaurant and went there three times, the chef will change any dish to your preference too. We enjoyed dinner in all of the restaurants but found the wait in the Italian very long (45 mins between courses) but it was worth the wait. The beach bar was the perfect ending to an afternoon and you can see the most incredible sunsets here while relaxing with drinks. We didn’t even have to go to the bar the staff were always coming to us and were really friendly. If you want a relaxing holiday with stunning scenery, incredible food and beautiful people this is the place to go.
This is a beautiful place to go
