My boyfriend and I recently stayed at Dragonfly Ranch during our first trip to Hawaii. We had the pleasure of staying in the Ali'i Suite. We found our quarters to be private, scenic, and relaxing. I loved waking up to the views and starting my morning with a refreshing shower. Rakesh made breakfasts that included our favorite hot teas, local fresh fruits, and more! There are so many beautiful spots at Dragonfly Ranch to enjoy island life and have such a tranquil experience. Barbara was very helpful and committed to ensuring our satisfaction during our stay and plane journey home. Dragonfly Ranch is a true gem!

I so appreciate knowing that people had a good time and that they took the time to share it with others. We all do our best and it's nice to know that our guests genuinely liked their experience at the Dragonfly. Mahalo.

Dragonfly Ranch is a mixed bag. Very conveniently located near Two Step and other great beaches. However, everything is a bit funky and not super clean or well kept. The shared guest kitchen was poorly supplied, not reliably clean and often had dirty dishes left in the sinks. The bedroom was dark, and just adequate. Barbara was friendly and a bit flaky. Also pushed her cleansing fast products a bit on us.
The place is as much a community for people wanting a place to land for awhile, and do a work exchange, rather than a guest location. The bathroom was pretty sad, outdoors but not in a good way. The toilet got wet when you took a shower (no shower stall, and but a foot or two from the toilet) Breakfast (toast, grain, avocado and jams and PB and coffee/tea were provided, but not always when they said it would be ready. Also, the staff gathered and partied on the floor above our room, so a bit noisy. But the coqui frogs were over the top noisy, right outside our door. They quieted down just about when the roosters started crowing.... Not conducive for someone who is a light sleeper. There is a space to do yoga, and eat outside. If you are looking for more than funky, this is not your place. Poor covid precautions in my opinion.

I have suggested that sound sensitive people bring their own ear plugs as we do have coqui frogs that many people like but some find oppressive. Fortunately, since this guest was here, we no longer have roosters torturing the sound sensitive! We have several fine young interns here learning about regenerative agriculture as well as the B&B business. Interns have their own area by the Illuminarium where guests walk the colorful labyrinth and do yoga. In the rooms, I leave literature about the cleansing program we offer. Some people ask me about trying it. Others do not. I'm assuming some of our guests were partying as our staff is not near the guest rooms. I regret that this person did not get good sleep as most people claim they love our beds , bedding, and sleep very soundly here. Sleep is so important! We ask our guests to clean up after themselves in our guest kitchen. Most guests are very thoughtful about doing that. I'm sorry that guests who were here during this person's visit were not so thoughtful. My team of interns usually quickly take care of cleaning up when that happens. Occasionally, when we are training new people, our team fails to be on time. That is a rare event as we are teaching our interns excellence. Too bad this as well as other things happened while these people were here. We do our best to keep things clean, but Sterile we are not. One of the most important thins about Covid is having good ventilation. With our screen walls and cross current breeze, good ventilation is what we have--besides maintaining rooms as clean as they can be considering our indoor/outdoor living style. To date, none of our team or our guests have gotten Covid! We intend to remain careful.

The Dragonfly Ranch is a unique, eclectic, laid-back space where everyone is welcomed and loved. The trees, plants and views of the ocean are amazing!! The room has a fresh jug of triple filtered water that gets refilled as needed. The bed was heavenly, jet-lag was not an issue after a 20 hour day. We had private bathroom with a beautiful outdoor shower. A very thoughtful and gracious breakfast, offering of organic teas, coffee, creamers and sweeteners to please all tastes... a delightful selection of honeys, nut butters, nuts, seeds, fresh fruits, berries and more...
The cats and dogs that live on site are like therapy animals. I personally have pet allergies, but their presence didn't bother me.
We will definitely be back :

What we liked was how low- key it was and overall quiet.
That being said, it was almost too low key as there was no direction to how the b&b is run. The entrance was unclear, extremely muddy, and dingy with overgrown brush.
It is up an extremely steep hill so it is very inconvenient. The rooms are okay. Not dirty but not exactly clean either.
The worst part was the HIDDEN PET FEE and the owner awkwardly asked us what we think the price should be. Also, the website states that their dogs are quiet and friendly which is far from true. They let their dogs run the place and attempted to attack our dogs. It is unfair to mislead people to thinking it's a dog friendly establishment when they allow their animals to be aggressive towards ours.
Overall, pretty disappointing but better than being homeless. I think it wouldn't have been so disappointing if it wasn't expensive.

Most people have no trouble finding us because we have 2 signs on the road. However, the rainy season this year made our parking lot muddy. That's why we spent $1000 on laying down gravel as well as diverting rain gutters. It's good now! I do request that people call us regarding bringing pets. Unfortunately, I don't recall their mentioning bringing their two dogs. I believe that led to the misunderstanding about how we charge for animals. Unfortunate miscommunication as I asked them if the price was acceptable. They answered affirmatively at the time. I must apologize for my mama Chihuahua who is protective unless introduced gently--which didn't happen here. I'm glad they liked the low key quiet nature of Dragonfly. Sorry they never took advantage of our awesome breakfasts!

So good things out of the way first, the view is gorgeous. Lots of beautiful plant life and very serene. Unfortunately that's about all I can say to recommend it. All the rooms were absolutely filthy. Ants, spiders, and other bugs were everywhere, toilets and showers were barely cleaned, all soaps and cleaning products were organic and you could tell as they barely did anything. Towels and linens smelled musty. Shower water gets lukewarm at best. Breakfast was fruit, plain quinoa, toast, avocado spread, and Kona coffee. The interns who work there all seemed very nice but the owner immediately gave me scam artist vibes. Within 5 minutes of meeting her she tried to sell me a 10 day fasting juice cleanse and the interns did all the labor around the ranch. All in all, unless you are firmly committed to the type of lifestyle they live there, do not go

It always saddens me when a person who comes here doesn't realize that we have a very different bed-and-breakfast. Those who like organic and don't want poisons are very happy but sometimes people think this is going to be a hotel and they don't realize that "it's a jungle out there." Fortunately, we recently found a very good smelling natural product that works at eliminating bugs. As a healthcare practitioner, for 60 years, it's only natural for me to want to share with people what I'm passionate about-- that I think they might be interested in. I have a wealth of knowledge about Flower Essences and health products that I generally share with people who ask me about it. I regret that our guest was offended that I offered what I thought they would find to be valuable information--without her asking. That is tot understandable. It was nice of of our unhappy guest to point out that our location is ideal, that it's beautiful here and that our Dragonfly team is very helpful.

We went to the Dragonfly Ranch to enjoy a sunset yoga, and were delighted by the peaceful setting set amidst a lush tropical forest :)). The covered platform at the top of the property — where the session was held — featured a beautiful view of the Pacific and pleasant breezes as well. The drive from Kona wasn’t very long, and it’s on the route to the Place of Refuge. (Yoga takes place Friday evenings; please donate $10-15/person.). Lovely place for a short visit or extended stay... enjoy!

This was our favorite place we stayed at over our two weeks in Hawaii. My seven year old said “Great job finding this place, Mama!” Barbara told us she has run Dragonfly ranch for 47 years! And she has clearly been pouring love and presence into the place all that time. It’s probably not for everyone—if you’re a Hilton resort kind of person or don’t like to be close to nature, skip this. But if you swoon over private outdoor showers and a score of Big Island night sounds serenading your sleep, you’ll love it here. Breakfast is wholesome and comes with an incredible view. The sunsets are amazing, too. It’s like living in a retreat center. The charm and loving vibe are through the roof. This place is special, absolutely one of a kind. I wish we’d stayed much longer. It would be easy to make this a home base and travel all over the island while staying at the Dragonfly. Highly recommend!

Barbara and the Dragonfly Ranch family are wonderful!
If you are a hotel room person, you might want to look elsewhere. If you are someone who loves nature and animals and a laid back atmosphere, this is the place for you!
Wonderful breakfasts on the lanai with fellow guests while watching the ocean, friendly animals and wildlife to keep you company, and cozy accommodations that make you feel like you are a part of nature.
We will be back.

The Drangonfly Ranch is a refuge in time and space for those who seek solace and peace. It is in a country setting and rustic, but very comfortable, eclectic, and artsy. Being in a foresty setting, one communes with nature - flowers everywhere and an occasional gecko visitor. I stayed in the Dolphin room, it was simple but charming in a tropical style, with an outdoor, but private bathroom and shower. Barbara and Anita, the hosts, were wonderful and accommodating. It felt like I was staying with my beloved worldly, warm, intelligent, and kindhearted aunties. Barbara is an expert in flower essences and using flowers for cures. It was nurturing to be helped by her with a mixture of her essences. The breakfast was a beautifully presented spread of freshly cooked whole grains, fruits, toast and jam and great coffee. I was able to take my little black poodle with me, who got to socialize with the funny little dogs on the property. I felt really welcomed and it SO nice to feel at ease with kind and friendly people, yummy food, and cute pets.
I highly recommend staying here if you would like to experience true Aloha with the cozy, homey, charm of authentic glam, hippie, Hawaii within a peaceful and communal setting…..It is a unique and precious bubble in time. Viva Dragonfly Ranch! It was an awesome experience! Thank you!

We really love and appreciate the Dragonfly Ranch B&B. Being locals on a neighboring island this is the perfect place for us to staycation! Yes, it's rustic and there are roosters and coqui frogs, but put on some ear plugs and we're all good! They serve really yummy organic delicious breakfast that was perfect for us and are super generous with their Kangan Blue Water. If you are into conscious and healthy lifestyles, this place is a gem! Oh and Kealakekua Bay where you can swim with the dolphins is right down the street. So is a beautiful must visit historic national park!
