Stayed on 1st floor apartment for 7 nights. Beach is a 2 minute walk straight across the road. Very nice beach water was crystal clear every day and turtles and fish swim around you while you are swimming. The apartment was clean and comfortable there were 6 of us and it was big enough to accomodate us all. The balcony was large and roomy and overlooked the swimming pool. The pool was always clean and was nice for swimming. The apartment was fully self contained with a washing machine and dryer and two bathrooms. The complex is a bit of drive from any of the shopping centres so a car is needed. The bus only runs every two hours to the shopping centres. The complex overall was very nice and would definately recommend it.

Great, Great location. Sit on the back porch and enjoy hearing the ocean. There is a really great restaurant across the road. Has all the amenities you need. Very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay here.

After a week in White Sands Village, it's by far the best valued place in Kona. The rooms are set up so that they are very homely, not fancy, but you feel right at home. The best upside, especially for those of you who have not been to hawaii need to know, is that it is across from the best beach in Kona. No question, it's the best in this area, and I'd venture to say the best on the big Island. Parking is difficult at this beach, and luckily, if you're staying at WSV, you do not have to worry about parking for this beach. Plus, WSV is right in the middle of everywhere you want to go in Kona. Stay here!

Spent a wonderful week at White Sands Village. We had a 2 br/2 bath condo with all conveniences included, down to beach chairs & cooler.
There's a nicely landscaped pool area, gas barbecues and our kids made great use of the pool table. We'd walk across the street to White Sands Beach for boogie boarding, floating in the beautiful blue sea, or a game of beach volleyball. WSV is not lavish but a relaxing and comfortable place to be. Some units have ocean views, some may be more updated since they are privately owned. A great value. Get the details from your booking agent.

We arrived at the White Sands Resort in Kona, Hawaii on Mar. 17th, 2012 ready to enjoy a week of island fun and relaxation. We were so grateful to escape the snow and rain in Seattle and were rewarded with a week of sunny, hot weather and NO RAIN! We enjoyed using the tennis courts, BBQ area and pool at the complex along with the friendly people we met. However, we were less than impressed with the condo unit we rented. Listed below are the problem areas with this unit:
- both bathroom and kitchen taps leaked continuously
- bath towels and some comforters were stained and, apparently, not washed prior to our arrival
- the tub and shower areas were missing some handles as well as the bottoms of both were old and dirty-looking
- one of the toilets was constantly running so you never knew if it would flush!
- the inside of many kitchen cupboards smelled musty
- spent the week with a host of small, tiny ants running everywhere throughout the kitchen
- the bedroom clock only shows half the hour digital number
- the garden view is a sold wall of green trees and plants with no variation of light ……really nothing to look at except the occasional bird in the tree
- the living room couch has seen better days and sinks in the middle
- there is an iron but no ironing board
On the plus side, the master bedroom bed is quite comfortable and there is tons of storage space. We would not recommend renting this unit…….it is old, run down and needs major upgrading, especially if the owners are charging the same price per week as the other units in this complex (which we have also stayed in and found to be superior in many ways).

We stayed at White Sands Village #318 for the last week of June and first week of July. Other family members stayed in #105 and #228. We rented all three units directly from the individual owners through a well-known vacation rental website. These 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom units average just over $100 per night, which is a great value!! All 3 units were clean, in good repair, and had well-stocked kitchens and linens. All had a/c and were bug-free. The washers and dryers were a great convenience. Each unit has dedicated parking for 2 cars.

#318 and #105 are in the two front buildings, looking down on the pool area and out onto the ocean. #228 was in the third building (in the rear) and looked out onto the tennis courts. The elevator stops right in front of #318. #228 is a short walk from the elevator and requires a few steps -- not a big deal except that two people staying there were on crutches (long story!), so this is a question you might want to ask about your unit if such things will make a difference to you. #318 had the most modern ("non tropical") decor. We liked that, although it didn't have the supply of beach towels and boogie boards found in the other two units. All of the units were comortable and homey -- it's just a matter of taste. #318 has a double bed in the second bedroom; the other two units had twins.

The pool/BBQ area is well-kept and has lovely tropical foilage and a view of the ocean. The jacuzzi was nice for an evening soak! Our group cooked out there 3-4 times and it was very nice, with plenty of room. Several members of our group also enjoyed the tennis courts. There is an outdoor pool table as well.

Most condos in Kona, even oceanfront ones, do not have access to a swimming beach (the coastline is largely lava rocks, not beach). So it's nice to have the option of going across the street from White Sands Village to the beach for a quick swim or to sunbathe in the sand. No one is going to mistake White Sands Beach for one of the beautiful Kohala beaches, but those are almost an hour north of Kona, so it's a tradeoff. White Sands is just north of the Captain Cook area, where the best snorkeling is to be found (as well as the coffee farms). And it's just 4 miles up Ali'i Drive to the heart of Kona town.

Since we spent most of our days out exploring the island, staying at a resort hotel would have been a waste of money. White Sands Village was an excellent value and for us was just about perfect!

We stayed at the White Sands Village for the first week of October, and we loved it. Ours (#318) was a two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo and had a well-appointed kitchen. We had every conceivable appliance, from coffee grinder to blender, and many other amenities as well, including clothes hampers and lots of extra towels. The complex is obviously a little older, but they take great care of the pool and other common areas. The carpet in our unit was a little worn, but when we were there, we spent most of the time on the huge balcony. We had a large table out there and plenty of comfortable chairs. Given the large number of people who hang out at the Magic Sands Beach across the road, I was worried about noise, but the complex was very quiet. An added bonus was that the unit was air conditioned -- we were told it didn't have A/C. Even though the balcony doesn't look directly at the ocean, it's very easy to see from the room. We would lean over and watch the sun set every night, and it was perfect. The few negatives were a washer/dryer that didn't work so well and not enough hot water for showers. The water pressure is pretty low, too. Also be sure to remove every grain of sand from your feet and clothes before going into your room, or else you'll get a note on your door and a visit from the maintenance staff. We made the mistake of leaving one sandy footprint outside our door, and the next day we got a note followed by a visit. Other than that, it was a perfect visit.

The White Sands is a older condominium complex about 4 miles south of town. If you want to be in the middle of the "action" on Alihi Drive, this is not your place. It is across the street from the White Sands Beach, but keep in mind that this beach is mostly rocks, with very little sand to sit on. It's popular with surfers. Your experience will depend on the individual owner of the condo. Ours was very thorough in giving us directions to the condo, and specific information about our stay. The price for value was very good. We had a 2 bedroom/2 bath 1,000 square foot condo with a large lanai, and it was very comfortable for 4 people. My only complaint is that the unit was listed as having an ocean view. NONE of the units have an ocean view. Their balconies/lanais face into the swimming pool area. If you stand on the lanai and lean out, you can see the ocean. That said, we were very comfortable, and had a nice stay.

My husband and I, along with his brother and wife, spent 10 days in Kona during Ironman Week last Fall. White Sands Village was the perfect location: close enough to Kona that we could jog there and back in the morning (and feel like Ironmen and women ourselves) and although we did not spent that much time at White Sands beach (the waves were kind of scary...), it was great beach to hang out at the end of the day to watch the sunset.

Although our unit (#303) had a few problems (toilet and dryer not working, not too clean + a few items broken) I am sure they are now fixed and I would go back anytime.

We stayed at White Sands very nice and planning to go back. My only complaint was the agent with Vrbo Gail I think her name was. My advice is to book direct from the owners of the suits and make sure if you do book with Vrbo you ask if the suite has air conditioning. etc.
