Absolutely loved this hostel. Actually extended my stay here because I enjoyed it so much. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, the vibe is casual, relaxed, and wonderful, and the location is easily accessible. I want to start off by saying that the staff at My Hawaii Hostel were excellent as they were very welcoming and friendly. With that said, My Hawaii Hostel is not a place to go if you're expecting to get ANY sleep. We reserved a "private room with private shared bath" but luckily for only 1 night. The room overall felt grimy and because the room was right next to the kitchen/communal area, it was loud ALL night long. The traffic on Ali'i Dr can also be heard throughout the night. Quiet hours start at 10PM and end at 7AM but the people staying there are more interested in socializing than sleeping so expect very few to actually abide by their quiet hour policy. Don't expect to sleep past 7AM either because that's when the people gather to make breakfast (i.e. blender sound against the bedroom wall) and socialize, once again. There are birds in the trees that will chirp all night and you'll hear people moving around and talking until 4AM. The staff goes home at night so guests are responsible for policing the quiet hours themselves. The bed wasn't very comfortable and our unit didn't have a functioning A/C, which made the night very uncomfortable. The individual "private" shared bathrooms are shared by everyone, which means that you'll be required to use the communal shared bathroom at various times. As a side note, the communal shared bathroom is unisex so I'd stay clear of this place if you're uncomfortable sharing a bathroom with those of the opposite gender. This hostel is not for the faint of heart when it comes to COVID-19 safety precautions. No one here, including the staff, wears a mask and there is no mandate to wear a mask. No hand sanitizers anywhere on site. Staying here makes you believe that the COVID was a pandemic of the past.

My Hawaii Hostel is the best hostel I've ever been in, not to mention its proximity to the beach. Beds are super comfy, rooms are spacious, kitchen is fully equipped, plenty of parking available, but the best part...THE PEOPLE! Everyone was so friendly and fun to hang around. 12/10 recommend this place.

We had a private room, shared bathroom at this hostel. For a hostel it is a little pricey in comparison to the rest of the world but... this is Hawaii and we had a great time at this hostel. There is a good atmosphere here and a good, relaxed welcome from the manager on arrival. The room was very basic but clean. The shower and toilets were also very clean and easy to maintain your privacy. The kitchen is very well stocked with utensils and appliances and again everything was clean. There are "free food" sections in the fridge and cupboard. We also made use of the free body board and beach towel loaning. You can rental snorkel here much cheaper than on the beach. Overall we were really pleased we chose to stay here and recommend it to other backpackers.

Incredible deal for a bunk in the cleanest hotel, not just hostels, I've ever seen. Very helpful staff who expertly assist guests in finding cookware, etc in common areas & evening quiet down at 10 pm. Excellent recommendations re: lesser known gorgeous places. Great location south on Alli'I Dr for getting on the highway south to the best snorkel sites.
