This Polynesian style resort with mostly 2 story 2 bedroom spacious units on well spread out property was our favourite of the 3 timeshare exchange weeks we experienced recently. In 52A, an upper floor unit, we had a little peek at the ocean from our spacious balcony and were able to watch the glorious sunsets from there. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and responded quickly and happily to requests. The air conditioning needed resetting and was tended to quickly on request. The kitchen was well supplied with table service for 8, coffee, salt and pepper, lemonade powder, popcorn, dishwashing liquid and dishwasher powder as well as washing machine detergent, all of which could be replenished by request to the front desk. We like our cups of tea and our request for kettle and teapot was quickly fulfilled. There are 2 swimming pools on the property and plenty of walking paths along which to enjoy the beautiful trees, plants and flowers. Their activity leader, Joy, supplied a varied and interesting choice of programs Monday to Friday for anyone who wished to join. We enjoyed the tour of flora and fauna of the property that she led and I enjoyed the lei making activity. The walk to town was along the side of a busy road and a hot walk of about 15 minutes. We found we could cut off the main road part way along and wander by the Royal Kona hotel for a quieter route. Beaches aren’t the greatest in this area and we drove 20 or so miles to Hapuna Beach or to the Mauna Kea Resort (where there is a public access beach) for the best white sand beaches.
Renting a car was very expensive but well worth it to give us the freedom to see the island. Highlights on The Big Island were the volcano, the hike down to Polola beach, Akaka Falls, and enjoying the birds, flowers, ocean and warm weather. Recommend the happy hour at the Royal Kona Resort for mai tais, appies and music. The getaway after 2 years of Covid did wonders for our hearts and souls! Shout outs to Sy-Za and to Joy for hosts with the most!

We have enjoyed our stay at the Wyndham. The 2 bedroom units are a nice size for a family and have everything you need for your home away from home. The kitchen has all you need for meals in the condo.
There is no cleaning service due to covid, but a quick call to front desk and they will refresh your towels and take garbage/recycling away. Just leave it outside your door.
Pools are a decent size. My only complaint would be that it’s not maintained during the day. There are fresh pool towels on each lounger in the morning and then they are never refreshed. So if you arrive in the afternoon for a swim, every lounger has wet dirty towels on it. Also found garbage lying around. This was a turn off. I recommend Wyndham adds a dirty towel bin so people can place their towels in the bin when finished. A shelf with clean towels would also be great.
Grounds are well kept and our room was definitely a more updated unit. Carpet and furniture were fresh/clean/new.
There are activities every day such as hula lessons, lei making and tote bag painting. Some are free and some paid.
About a 10-15 minute walk into town. I highly recommend the Green Flash Cafe nearby for a tasty breakfast.
Also, if you are touring the island, I highly recommend you purchase the Shaka Guide app for your own personal tour guide through your phone/car radio. Amazing info and history lessons.

I was a little nervous about this booking, because some of the reviews commented on the cleanliness and business of this resort. I travel a lot, and this resort was absolutely worth staying in for our Big Island trip and would highly recommend it to anyone thinking about staying here. It's located within walking distance to down town Kona, and perfectly located for traveling the island. We never had a hard time finding parking, and the pools weren't crowded at all. The grounds are gorgeous, like botanical garden gorgeous and the staff were always kind. We stayed in an upstairs unit and it was very quiet and clean, with a large lanai. Some people complained the rooms were dated, but the bedding was crisp and clean and all the appliances were in great working order. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning and fans kept us cool at night. We would definitely stay here again for our next visit to Kona.

We booked a week at the Wyndham thru RCI, based on its Gold Crown rating as compared to other Hawaii accommodations. The RCI and Wyndham websites did not due this resort justice. It was much nicer than we expected and the staff was lovely. They took appropriate COVID precautions to keep guests and staff safe. The property was well manicured, charming, and centrally located for Kona activities and the unit was nicely appointed. We will be sure to book here again during our next Kona trip.

The Kona Hawaiian Resort is centrally located in Kona on the Big Island. There are a lot of things to do and many restaurants. We encourage you to try Magic Beach Grille, Kona Brewery, and Lava Java. There is a great beach right next to Magic Beach Grille which has nice waves and snorkeling (although we didn't try it there). The grounds of the Kona Hawaiian are very well maintained. When we went (May 15, 2021), it was necessary to show a negative Covid test at the front desk and also you needed to make reservations if you wished to go to the pool. We thought that these were good requirements to maintain the health of all who visit the resort. The actual room size is very good. Furniture and rugs are old, but still in fairly good shape. All in all, our stay was very nice; if you come to the Big Island expect to drive as there are countless, beautiful and unique areas of the island. A must is to take a drive along the Hamakua Coast drive from Hilo north. Also, if you are into unique sunsets and star-gazing taker a drive up to Mauna Kea, one of the best areas in the world to see stars. Dress warmly, though, as the temperature after sunset dropped below 50 degrees which is very common. Snorkeling in Captain Cooks Bay is a must-best place in the US for snorkeling. You will need to go with a tour company or kayak in.

Let’s start with the $9 a day parking. You don’t get a reserved spot near your condominium, and as people can invite whomever they want the parking fills up non-patrons who leave at midnight, forcing you to park a long way from your housing unit. Now for the pools. You need to reserve spots, but one reservation is only for 2 people. As you are competing against other patrons, it is rare that you will be able to get your family and children on the same reservation. We were told to reserve online, but the found the online option wasn’t working, had to call the front desk to make arrangements, but but that time few reservations were available. If you get in, the rules change based on the mood of the attendant. My daughter has a floaty she used on day one, that was against the rules in day 3. You could bring your family into the pool day one but then, all of a sudden you are capped at attendees day 2 even though no one else was there. Hot tub at pool burned my daughters eyes, and when my father went into the hot tub, the fumes made breathing impossible. When I told an attendant about the dangers of the hot tub, she shrugged it off. Save you time and money. This is the same price of the Sheraton.

We're troubled to hear that this was your experience. During this unprecedented time, pools have reopened on a reservation-basis to ensure social distancing. We are continuously looking for ways to improve, and have passed along your feedback to our Resort Management team.

We booked 3 studio units in June , 2022 for a family vacation in early November, 2022. Each unit was ~1,100 sq ft and had a kitchen. I checked and our reservations were fine a week before arrival. While we were at the airport, we received an email saying all 3 units had been relocated. We were sent to a resort and were assigned three 420 sq ft rooms with 2 double beds each, no kitchen.
I was livid. We arrived at 10 at night and had to stay there that night but I called the managing company in FL and explained that we had 10 people in our party, needing 21 meals in restaurants at great expense since we no longer had kitchens. I was able to get a refund of 1/2 of our cost and worked with the resort to get ocean view studios with free breakfast and happy hour every day.
In reading reviews, the Club Wyndham has done this to others. Initially the Kona manager had told me they had Maintenace problems-a lie. Later I was told they had overbooked.
Do not trust this resort and save yourself some unnecessary hassles by not booking with them.

Positive about the resort: close to downtown and nice pool. Negative: The room my family stayed in was very outdated and scary. I am an owner and received the worst room that was available. We were not lucky enough to get a remodeled room. Everything in the room was outdated, the wooden dressers smelled so bad, I couldn't get rid of that smell even after washing our clothes. The room did not look clean, there were hair and sand from previous family. There was a dead beetle in our bedroom and a dead cockroach in the kitchen. My toddler was afraid to walk on the floor because of "scary bugs". The dishwasher did not work properly. We had to request clean towels via the text, but the delivery did not happen until 9am the following day, we had to use dirty towels after the shower. Let me tell you about the shower in the master bedroom. We stayed in room C49 lower-level unit. The shower door did not close and there was mold inside. The bathtub was dirty, and the valve did not close. The sinks did not drain well and there was black residue around the faucets. There was an overwhelming mucky smell in the room if AC was not blasting. The furniture was dirty throughout the room. During our 7 day stay the room was not cleaned even once. I do not recommend this resort. I pay maintenance fee monthly as a member and I don't know where that money is going.

Booked via booking.com. Chose this resort as it offered a full kitchen including a washer/dryer which in the middle of a 3 week vacation was much need respite from eating out all the time. Location is good. Ignore the front of house team telling you it’s too far to walk into town. A 20min stroll will get you to an ABC store and some great restaurants.
A big shout out to Joy who runs the activities at the resort. What a wonderful person. So warm and friendly. I would thoroughly recommend joining one of her offered activities - not normally my kind of thing but it was a pleasure just to be in Joy’s company for a short while.
Would recommend to families who want a bit more space than your average hotel room.
