Detailed Reviews
This was our first stay at the WorldMark Kona. It is the smallest WorldMark resort that we have stayed at. The "resort" is kind of an ugly brown box on Alii Drive with a second ugly brown box to the rear, about 1.5 to 2 miles south of downtown Kailua-Kona, on the other side of the street away from the ocean. Private houses block a view of the ocean. We had a ground floor two bedroom, two bathroom unit in the back building. A queen bed was in the master, with two twin beds in the second bedroom, and a comfortable Murphy queen bed in the entrance hall area. The bathrooms were pretty basic. Our unit was quiet with a deck overlooking the pool/spa area between the two buildings. Alii Drive is pretty busy and the units in the front building may get more noise. We could easily walk to a very rocky beach to watch the sunsets, but the nearest restaurants or bars (Huggo's and Don the Beachcomber) were a long walk away (just over a 1/2 mile away). Most of Alii Drive has no sidewalk, but sufficient shoulder area to walk on. You needed to drive the car to get to a decent beach or buy groceries. A new Safeway superstore is approximately 2 miles away and a large KTA is about 5 miles away. Everything in the unit was in good working order, although the air conditioners ran full blast (unless the sliding glass door to the patio was open) and we had difficulty figuring out how to turn them down. We saw nothing in the unit or the exterior that needed attention or repair. The BBQ area was convenient, just outside the pool/spa area between the two buildings. The three BBQs were cleaned regularly and always worked fine (we used one most evenings). The living room and each bedroom had modern flat screen televisions. Since we purchased our WorldMark points on the resale market there was a modest charge for WiFi service, which worked fine for both mobile telephones and our laptop computer. The number of parking spaces at the resort was sufficient for the number of guests, but most spaces are on the small side. The spaces are fine for a subcompact, but we had a full-sized vehicle and there were only two spaces in the rear parking area that were adequate for such a large vehicle. Overall, had a good stay and the relative lack of pressure to attend an "owners' update" was nice.

This condo is in a great location. Most everything is on Alii Drive which is a close walk (providing you are able to walk that far). We all 4 are seniors so walking was not an option. The unit was newly remodeled and was clean and nice. My only draw back is it could use a few more cooking skillet/pans. Also, more bowls would be nice. The parking is great, and the front desk people (especially Tina) was very friendly and nice. We didn't have maid service for our 15 days stay, however, anytime we wanted clean towels we called the front desk, placed our used ones by the front door and they delivered them almost immediately. I would highly recommend this condo.

We had 3 x 2 bedroom suites for our whole family. Even though they knew we were traveling together, no effort was made to put us close, one of our group was not even in the same building! The elevator definitely needs servicing and cleaning. Other than that, this is a typical Worldmark property. Kitchens are fully stocked and it is convenient to have the option of having breakfast or dinner at "home". Rooms are spacious and beds comfortable. We had a 6 and 4 year olds with us and they loved the pool which is clean and well maintained. We had a large minivan and parking was easy and plentiful.

Our room was freshly remodeled and clean. Our 18 days here made us feel like we were home.
The location is amazing. 5 minutes walk to the beach. 10 Minutes to Humpy's.
Sunsets are amazing!
Check in was pleasant and easy. Front desk staff was very nice and responsive. All of the grounds crew and housekeeping staff were very professional and friendly.
Best of all the BEDS were amazingly comfortable.

I was born and raised on Oahu, so my perspective may differ from a visitor coming from, say, the Midwest. With that said...
Location:
WorldMark Kona is located off the main strip of Kailua-Kona. This is not a waterfront property and it didn't really matter at all for me (see note above). The ocean is across the street and through some property, but I never actually tried going to the beach. WorldMark is slightly too far away to walk to all the shops and restaurants on the Alii strip since there's no real sidewalk that goes down there. And the traffic and dimly lit street makes it rather dangerous to walk especially at night. However, it's just a minute drive there, and we didn't have too much trouble finding parking. Lots of shops and restaurants. Even a beach volleyball court.
Rooms:
The rooms were clean, very comfortable, relaxing, spacious and well-lit. We've stayed in a 1-bedroom and a 2-bedroom. After staying in a 1-bedroom suite, it's very hard to go back to a 350 sq. ft. hotel room. The biggest difference from staying at a traditional hotel is that I actually feel at home. Having a kitchen and a living room makes it easy to relax after a long day out in the sun.
Bottomline:
From my experience, WorldMark has been very consistant in the quality and service at their timeshare resorts. (I've been to Kihei, Kona, and Las Vegas). I even plan on visiting two more of their properties this year. Whenever on the Big Island, I don't bother looking at staying anywhere else.

The Worldmark Kona is located across the street from the ocean with a small beach about a block away. The resort is walking distance to Kona Town and the harbor activities yet far enough away from the good beaches and other Big Island attractions that a vehicle should be considered. There is a trolley bus that does run arround the area called the Honu Express. It does travel to shopping destinations and to some of the nearby beaches. The best snorkel beach in the area is Kahaluu park about 2 miles south of the resort. The resort is condo style with spacious rooms, swimming pool, hot tubs, entertainment center, fitness center, bar-b-que area and a 24 hour attended office. Everything is to Worldmark standard meaning the resort is in great condition.
We were in a two bedroom unit with a pool view on the bottom level. The master bedroom is spacious with a large full sized bathroom. There is also a flat screen tv in the bedroom. The second bedroom has two twin beds. The living are has sofas, chairs, tables and a large flat screen tv. The kitchen has a nice full sized refrigerator with ice-maker, full sized glass top range with oven, microwave, coffee maker, pots pans and utensils galore, toaster and blender. You will not find the kitchen lacking. There is even bbq equipment in the room. Coffee, tea, spices and dish-soap for the dishwasher is supplied by the resort.
The bbq's are nice and do heat up to 600 degrees rather quickly. These are cleaned daily by the staff.
There is smoking permitted on the deck. An ashtray is provided. No smoking is allowed in the room.
There is a queen sized murphy bed in the living area near the dining area. The dining area consists of a table and six chairs. There is also a full sized front loader washer and dryer in the room. The second bathroom is full sized as well.
The resort staff is friendly and very helpful. This is a great location for family travel or a group of friends wanting to explore the Big Island or for those that just want to chill and see some local beaches. Sunset viewing is great across the street and down the block at the beach or in Kona Town but not so much at most of the resort.
The internet was fast and is provided by a third party. I have a yearly subscription and don't remember the weekly fee but I believe it is about $15.
This resort does have quite rooms with air conditioning. Many resorts in the area use ceiling fans only so it is nice to be able to shut the windows and stay comfortable. The resort does have stairs to the upper levels. I did not notice an elevator.
On this trip we did drive all over the Big Island. We went to Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, black sand beach, beach 69, green sand beach, Hilo, Volcano Park, coffee plantations and the local area beaches on Ali Drive. Next trip I would just stay in Kona and more than likely hang out at Kahaluu Beach. It doesn't get much better than this, imo anyway. There is snorkel and surfing opportunities here. Renting gear is cheap in Kona Town. You can rent boards and snorkel gear for very little. Kayaking and paddle boards are for rent in the harbor.
Best place to go for nightlife is the Kona Brewing Co. They have a variety of beers and pizza. The music is better here as well. Most of the other places play Hawaian music or Island music all night long.

We just spent more than a week on the Big Island. WorldMark was absolutely the best place to "call home" while being on vacation. The service was absolutely fantastic. The rooms were beautiful and I certainly enjoyed being able to take home clean laundry because of the "in home" washer and dryer. How can the view possibly be improved???The pool below---the Pacific Ocean out front and,of course, the mountains out to the back. I would recommend WorldMark Kona to anyone looking for above average accomodations and friendly faces.

Don't get me wrong, this is a totally respectable Worldmark property (imo). The setup is your typical Worldmark, as others have stated, so you should find everything where you think it is if you've stayed in a Worldmark before. This property is maybe not as up to par with others, but when we were there, they were in the process of updating the appliances to white ones (our unit had just been updated recently). It was also said that they are looking at updating the wicker furniture at some point as well. There are only a handful of units that have a view of the ocean from your balcony - these would be the units on the ends (and possibly just in from the ends) of the back building (upper floors). The front building rooms' balconies face toward the pool or back of the property, but upper floors will have something of an ocean view from the front bedroom window.
This is a smaller property, just across the street from the ocean, but you will need to walk a block or so either way to find access to the water. I say access, since you can get to the water, but the shore is rocky here and you may not necessarily want to get in. There are places nearby with small stretches of beach, though, that might be more inviting (just a little further). Our unit was clean and ready ahead of the 3p check-in time, which was nice since we arrived in town around noon. Service was friendly, and we were apprised of the upcoming morning presentation that would tell us about the activities and sights of possible interest we might want to explore during our stay. The property has a concierge service and Expedia Local Expert that has access to various activities and will book them for you. Our expert gave us some good advice and shared her favorite restaurants (which we enjoyed as well).
Note for families:
It's a BIG Island! If you are traveling with small children that will be in carseats and/or get fussy after a an hour or so, I would caution you to consider your plans with that in mind. There are some great beaches on this side of the island, and they are not that far away (15-30min or so). If that is your focus you are good. If you have big plans to hit Hilo, see Waip'io Valley, Hawi, or Volcanoes Nat'l Park, know that it will take a good chunk of the day just driving to and from these things (2+ hours one way sometimes). Sometimes, even a half hour in the car can be hard if little ones are hungry or overly excited.
Elevation:
On any hwy, you can expect elevation shifts (some quite dramatic) as you drive around the island. We avoided the saddle road, due to 2 of us having problems with our ears readjusting so many times in one day.
Back to the Worldmark:
Despite having ceiling fans, we found we often needed to use the A/C units and they were fairly noisy, but worked well. The pool area was clean, and we made use of that on several occasions, as well as the bbq area (I believe there were 4 bbqs). Parking is a little tight, but we had no problem getting a space each night. If it were a more busy time, I would think you could have trouble parking. The quiet hours were generally observed by most, and we only experienced excess noise on one occasion close to 10p.
We had an issue with a support on one of the sofas sticking out (broken), and called maintenance. They came and promptly fixed the problem, as we were concerned for our little one possibly getting hurt. The dishwasher also leaked once, but was fine after that (user error?).
Overall, I gave this place a 3, though it's probably more of a 3.5. No extras, like the on-site activities we've experienced at the Worldmark in Kihei. The shopping district is nice and fairly close (about 1 mile), but a little far to walk with little ones unless you plan to carry them halfway. We chose to drive, but parking can be a problem depending on day and time. This Worldmark is a little scruffy, and in the process of being updated. It is, however, clean, and we saw no cockroaches there (or anywhere else, for that matter). Everything worked, and we had no issues with changing out towels, getting maintenance, or booking activities. I would consider going elsewhere if visiting again to get a nicer pool area, more upgraded accommodations, location closer to/with a sandy beachfront. I realize this would most likely cost us more, but we discovered our preferences when visiting beaches near/at resorts in the north during our visit (Mauna Lani, Waikoloa, etc.).

Last minute plans, we got a 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom ground floor unit. Comfortable unit with usual WM amenities. King sized bed in MB and 2 twins in second, plus a murphy bed. It was just the two of us so we only needed the MB. Living area furniture a bit overcrowded for the space so if several people staying there, could be a bit crowded, but worked for us, plus I idon't think you go to Hawaii to stay in your condo! Staff were great. They have an Expedia rep there and she was extremely helpful in advising for tours. I know, she is SELLING tours, still, her presentation was excellent and made the process of signing up for tours easy. Only one real problem with the condo. We could hear EVERYTHING that went on upstairs .not words...but sounds. At risk of being too indelicate..we knew more about what was happneing in the bedroom than we wanted to know... otherwise, excellent place. One more thing, no view of ocean, but easy to get to. Pool area one of the best WM we have seen.

nice walk to town about 15 minutes. Pool is pretty small. Don't take many people to get crowded. Desk clerks were always friendly. Great location with easy access. Not all the BBQ grills worked and that was irritating when u go with dinner to cook and not enough working grills.

Yes, there are a small stackable washer and dryer set up in each unit.
There is a view of the ocean from the front door side of the condos in building 1 (front building), especially the third floor is largely unobstructed. Building 2 (back building) will have a view of the pool from balconies and a view of Mauna Loa peak behind from the entrance side of the building and that's about it unless you are in an end unit but even then any ocean view will be scarce. All balconies overlook the pool. In the front building ocean views can be seen from the second bedrooms with twin beds, again especially on the third floor. Lower floors will have obstructed views if any on the lowest floor.
Yes there is. There is one particular beach that is about three miles south of the resort. Kahalu'u beach park. Its famous for its sea turtles and abundance of fish.
Hi Paul, We do not see your name in our system. Please call our reservation department for further information and/or cancellation.
