We stayed here for 8 days. The surroundings & landscape is beautiful. The one king bedroom was plenty for a couple. It has a fair size king bedroom with a closet, dresser, TV, safe, sliding door to the lanai, bedside drawers, a chair, double curtains, bed lamps & A/C unit. The bed & pillows were very comfortable. The living room & dining room are together with vaulted ceilings, TV, couches, one of them converts to a sofa bed, dining table sits 4, sliding door to the lanai, A/C & a ceiling fan. It also has a closet for coats or clothes & washer & dryer. They also provide soap for laundry. The kitchen is small but adequate with big fridge, electric stove, microwave, coffee machine, toaster, adequate utensils, pots and pans, dishes, etc. We had a very good time here. Loved it. Check it out!

Overall, our family really enjoyed our 5-night stay at the Holua Resort. The customer service is excellent, and the resort is very pretty and well taken care of, even though it's not modern or loaded with new appliances. The rooms were clean, spacious, and had air conditioning, all of which we appreciated. The beds were comfy, and the long balcony was a nice plus. They have quite a few tennis and pickleball courts, which we didn't have a chance to take advantage of. There are also plenty of pools to enjoy on site. The in-room washer and dryer also came in very handy towards the end of our trip. Some of the downsides were that the location is a bit off the beaten path, so the next time we go back we'll definitely rent a car instead of using Uber all the time. There aren't any dining options on site or even in the immediate area, which is another good reason to rent a car. (The resort also has a large, free parking lot, by the way.) They don't do a full luau, but one night they did a nice show (completely free, by the way) with some younger kids that were practicing the same kinds of Polynesian dances. There wasn't any housekeeping during our time there, but we didn't mind taking out our trash and keeping things tidy.

This was one of the best stays we had in our multi island visit to Hawaii and it was great value as well. We had a two bedroom, two story apartment that was just HUGE and our teens loved having the additional space. With a full kitchen and washer/dryer this resort is ideal for families.

Front desk staff were just lovely and the check in/check out was very easy.

Great facilities with free undercover parking, multiple pools etc. And the location is brilliant if you are planning on doing the Manta Ray snorkelling. You can walk just down the road to where most of the tours launch from!

Highly recommend this resort, it's a lovely stay.

Had a great stay! The staff is fantastic. All of them are super friendly, accommodating and responsive. Apparently this is a timeshare property, but we were never approached or pressured and were treated as if we were owners. Also, no resort or parking fees was much appreciated as most places hit you with those at check in and they can be very pricy in Hawaii. The resort "concierge" reached out via text prior to arrival and during the stay which was much appreciated and very convenient. We got in early and let them know via text. They offered to let us do a "pre-check in", store our luggage and call when the room was ready. The room was ready an hour early and they called to let us know. After reading some reviews before booking, we requested an end unit facing the golf course and away from pools and the parking structure. They did their best to accommodate us and the unit was a bit of a walk but was secluded and very quiet- although not on the golf course or with an ocean view. The two bedroom units are large and each bedroom has its own full bathroom. Upstairs is the kitchen, living room and hide a bed. Both levels have lanais. AC works great. Kitchens and bathrooms are in need of updates but they are clean and functional. Be aware that good beaches are 30 minutes to an hour away. Beach chairs, umbrellas and boogie boards are available for checkout at no cost and we had no problem with their availability. If you're going on a sail/snorkel excursion, Keahou bay is within walking distance. In any case, a car is a must on this island.

Years of poor housekeeping practices and lack of update have taken their toll on the kitchen and bath. Many broken tiles in the kitchen floor, scum on the sinks, tub and questionable toilet clean. Tile floors were sticky, and crumbs in the utensil drawers. No handles on kitchen cabinets, so many years of use have worn the wood bare. Bathroom floor mopping left sloppy lines of dirt against the molding. I couldn't wait to check out.

We’ve been going to Holua Resort at Mauna Loa Village for twenty years, since we first bought a Shell Vacation Timeshare there. It is a total shame what Wyndham has done, or actually not done to this once beautiful resort.

At first glance, the grounds still look pretty good, but get beyond that and you’ll find pools that are not maintained, balconies showing signs of possible collapse, and units that have had little or no maintenance in years.

I am attaching photos which show rundown and cracked kitchen countertops, broken kitchen cabinets that no longer close, and balcony floors that are cracked and dirty.

The balcony floors are likely cracked because in some of the units, you can actually see that the balconies have detached from the support beams and are now sagging several inches. Someone has propped up one of the balconies with a 2 by 4 presumably to keep it from crashing down when guests are using the balcony! The structural integrity appears severely compromised.

Several of the pools are in such a sad state of disrepair, others who have posted here say they cut their feet on broken tiles. Indeed, tiles at and in the pools where people walk barefoot are broken with jagged edges. It is a safety hazard ... not to mention it just looks terrible.

As for amenities, the TVs are very tiny for the large living rooms, and the “free” Internet is a joke (3-5 mbps). You pay a daily fee for the faster speed that you can actually use.

There are good things here ... staff is nice, barbecues work well, it is quiet and the beds are comfortable.

But like so many other Wyndham properties, the company has put off required maintenance here and Holua Resort is suffering because of it.

We are timeshare owners at Holua Resort and pay thousands of dollars each year for maintenance fees. Where that money is going I don’t know, but as it is now, because of the delayed maintenance, I can no longer recommend Holua Resort as a high end vacation destination.

We made our first covid era trip and this resort was perfect. I requested a quiet room and we received one in building 17 (I'll only stay in the building !). This group of townhouses was away from the road. The service here was also top notch. Because there is no housekeeping available right now they will replenish your condo supplies with a quick phone call. Everyone who works here is very helpful, friendly and easy to work with. There are several swimming pools and on most days we had the pool to ourselves in the late afternoon. The unit itself was very roomy and we loved the great room with high ceilings, lots of light and a view to the golf course and tropical foliage. These units could use a little bit of refreshing (tile, appliances, lumpy pillows) but everything is in working order so there really wasn't much to complain about. We will definitely return and hopefully will get another quiet unit !!

We had a wonderful stay at the Holua Resort. The staff was super friendly and the 1 bedroom apartment has a very good size with a fully equipped kitchen (very convenient!). The room décor was a bit outdated, but we had seen it in the pictures beforehand.
Location: the hotel is within walking distance to where the boats leave for the captain cook snorkeling tour and the manta rays. For everything else, you will need a car. It should not be an issue if you are planning to explore the island.

We stayed for 2 weeks. We had the 2 bedroom unit, it is large and good floor plan. There is a washer and dryer in the unit which was extremely helpful having 2 kids with us.
The unit was a bit dated but in good working condition. the resort is in the process of updating all the units which is great.

My husband and I just stayed at the Holua resort at Mauna Loa for one week. In fact, I am sitting at the Kona airport right now waiting to board my plane to go back to the mainland. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The resort is beautiful and our one bedroom unit was very clean and spacious. If you don’t have a car with you it makes it very difficult to get around so I would advise that you stay right down the middle old Kona On Ali’i Drive if you’re not going to rent a car. We were within a 15 minute drive to everywhere local that we wanted to go so the location was perfect. We also enjoy walking and playing pickleball in the mornings so it was nice to get up and take a nice long walk or to go over to the courts to play pickleball before going out for the day’s adventure.. Everybody was very very friendly at the Holua paddle and racquet center. If you want to play pickleball keep in mind that you can buy a punchcard and it’s $10 per session. The people playing at the Courts every morning for open play are half regulars and half visitors so it’s a nice mix. There’s a variety of different skill levels too but I would say most people are around 3.5 If you buy a punchcard online you can get a discount per session. The punchcard is transferable so I just bought one punch card and my husband and I shared it. ($60 for 7 sessions)
Keep in mind that there is no bar, no continental breakfast, no café, no social gathering place on the grounds other than six different pools spread out throughout the property. If you want to have a social gathering you could either meet at one of the pools, meet at the courts, or you could go over next-door to the Outrigger.
There is free secure parking.

Hello...is there beach/snorkelling access from the hotel or with a short walk?
Answer from Kalae W
Aloha Michelle! We are not on the water but the Keauhou Bay is a short walk away if you'd like to be near the water to watch the sunset. The best snorkeling on the West side of the island is about a mile north of us at Kahalu'u Beach park.
