The checkin was very well organized. Nanette left us a lovely message with the info where to find the key. Bears Place is a very well located and clean guest house. Our room was very large with a spacious terrace. There is a small kitchenette in the room with everything you need for a simple menu. All utensils were very clean and in good condition. There is even a laundry room where you can wash and dry your clothes for 5.- USD per wash. Everything has been thought of. We felt very comfortable and can highly recommend it. Free parking is also available

We stayed for 3 nights in February and had booked the Orchid suite. It is exactly as the photos show it to be on the website. The suite was large, had a fully equipped kitchen, 2 sofas, a very comfortable bed, TV, large fully furnished lanai and the property had high quality furnishings.

This suite has everything you need for self catering, hob, oven, dishwasher, lots of crockery, pots, pans, kettle, tea, coffee, spices, condiments and much more. Everywhere is spotless and very well maintained. There are beach chairs, beach towels and boogie boards available for us to use. You can see the ocean from the lanai and the surrounding area is very peaceful - it's outside of the main town of Kona down a very quiet side road. The owners do not live on the property but only live a few doors down the road so are easily accessible should you need them - contact phone numbers are left for you just in case you need them.

Both Anne and Nanette are very welcoming and friendly, they have heaps of information on the local area and provide some really good tips on things to do and beaches to visit for specific activities.

The free wifi was very reliable and fast. There is also a car parking space available for each of the 4 rooms. A guest laundry is also available and costs $4.50 to wash and dry, detergent is provided.

We cannot fault Bears Place, everything was perfect and it was the best accommodation we stayed at during our 15 night trip to the Big Island the only thing we are sad about is that we didn't stay here for longer.

We would highly recommend Bears Place and will definitely stay again when we return.

We spent 4 nights in this place. We arrived very late, at midnight and it was amazing to listen to ,,music " of jungle outside, cicadas. We stayed in Plumeria room ( apartment- two rooms, two beds) on first floor with very big terrace with ocean view. The room didn't have air condition but it wasn't needed. The house is about 10 km from airport and 10 km from Kona. Around it"s a lot of flowers, trees, bushes. It's very quite area. We ate breakfasts on the terrace every day ( we prepare them by ourselves), they don't serve food. There were sunchairs and we could use them on the beach. We relaxed and rested there. I recommend this place.

We stayed in the Orchid suite for a week in January. The suite is as pictured.
Pros:
Large lanai with nice views to the ocean
Lovely sunsets sitting on the lanai
Spacious room with high ceiling
Nicely equipped with cooking implements in a large kitchen. Also supplies salt n pepper shakers, sugar.
Great coffee provided
Good wifi
Washer and dryer downstairs which I never used ($5 charge)
Beach towels and chairs
Free parking
Reasonably priced for the area

Cons
As mentioned you need a car…there is nowhere to walk. Guesthouse is down a very steep, bumpy road off the Belt Rd. About 20 minutes to town. (Closer to the airport)
Its in a neighborhood with all the neighbor noises…dogs barking incessantly in the early mornings and evenings. Neighbors talking loudly and neighbors working on their yard, so not a quiet, peaceful location.
Depending upon other guests you may hear them as sound carries from other units in the guesthouse.
Bed soft
No local info provided. Nothing on sites or restaurants or maps.

This place is very far and very remote location, its very difficult to reach this place with improper roads
They mention it as close to Ocean, but it's really far.
They say it is a peaceful place to stay, but the noise from the neighborhood spoils your romantic stay.
When asked for a refund, they straight away denied it and said if you want you can leave rather than handle the issues

SCAM - The room was moldy and smelled like urine...... Nanette tried to gaslight us saying we imagined it.... We left, and had to reverse charges on credit card because she would not take responsibility.

If someone pisses in your accommodation, next time don't rent it out until it's clean FFS.

Zero Aloha. Zero Stars.

We stayed for 6 nights in the Hibiscus studio. It was very roomy, and immaculate, with an extremely well supplied kitchenette. It took no time at all to feel comfortable in. In the fridge upon arrival were fresh cut papayas, cookies, jam, and juice. The neighbourhood is quiet, except for the occasional barking dog, and has a brand new road. Lush tropical vegetation surrounds the house. Banana and papaya trees can be picked from our balcony/lanai.

Bed was a queen, very comfortable, with 2 pillows per side. Super stocked laundry room with modern washer and dryer. Beach towels were in the room, boogie boards were in the front hall for borrowing free. Nice tall removable shower head. Plush towels. Plenty of shelf space.

Good location for exploring the rest of the island, because the neighbourhood (upscale) is right off a slightly more central highway than the coastal road, with fantastic views of the coast. To get to the hotel district on the ocean where many of the restaurant are, the drive is 15 minutes, with very little traffic, on a brand new road that has plenty of reflectors embedded in it for easy night driving.

Evenings are pleasantly cool. Not sweater cool. Just not hot. No air conditioning needed.

One reviewer complained of foot noise from the apartment above, but we found this minimal and easily ignored. We heard no voices from other rooms.

The website was well done.

Nannette was a pleasant, helpful, prompt hostess who delivered what she promised. She left us fresh towels and little treats every day.

We stayed in the Orchid Suite for 12 nights and loved it. This was our 2nd time at Bears place but 1st time in the Orchid suite, we liked the full kitchen as we generally had breakfast before going out for the day. Nannette & Ann are very accommodating, helpful and friendly. The suite was very clean and view was great, airport and coastline plus nice sunsets. A nice large deck.
We will stay here the next time too.

In December, we returned to Bears' Place after spending a week here in 2016. We are so impressed by the location and the beauty of the immediate surroundings at Bears' that we won't be going anywhere else when we vacation in Kona! The rooms are filled with everything you need to cook and eat your own meals, relax on the lanai, or sleep in a comfy bed. Streaming into our awareness here are exotic bird calls, flirty geckos and trees bearing tropical fruits and abundant flower blossoms. The hosts provide much help/information about the island as well as boogy boards for the surf and a welcome breakfast on the arrival day! Can't wait to return again!
