Property is bit dated, but is clean and comfortable with amazing ocean view and the wave sound. Big space with fully equipped kitchen. In unit laundry. Room is clean with plenty of towels, including beach/pool towels. Parking available outdoor or inside garage.

This resort offers a nice oceanfront setting. The facility is clean, enjoyable, and comfortable in most respects. The commons areas around the beach and pool are nice, the grounds are very well maintained, and parking seems ample (no extra charge). Daily housekeeping was provided as part of the package and my wife & I liked that our 1 bedroom suite had 2 bathrooms, full kitchen plus washer/dryer. Checking in was unpleasant and the wait for a room was long, so we didn't get off to a good start. I would also say that the Air Conditioning system put only a slight dent in the heat we experienced. That said, we spent a pleasant and enjoyable week at a pretty nice facility that was convenient to some wonderful dining and sightseeing, Our only real disappointment was that we paid the extra for an Oceanfront room that seemed more like an Oceanview room when compared with most of the rooms in Building 1. That building runs almost parallel to the shore and faces the ocean fully and directly, most rooms enjoying 160 degree views without obstruction. In Building Two, rooms face more to the south and are divided into sections that are staggered behind one another. If you are in the westernmost section (rooms 123 through 324), you are pretty much on the water with a full oceanfront view. Nice. The section we stayed in was right behind it (rooms 121-422) and set back behind a concrete wall. Thus our room (221) had a deck with maybe a 120 degree ocean view. Our sunset was largely blocked by a concrete wall while most of the folks in Building 1 enjoyed a full sunset view without having to leave their deck. According to the desk manager who went over the facility map with me, 3 of the 5 sections that make up Building 2 are considered Oceanfront in terms of pricing. In my estimation, at this resort not all "Oceanfront" rooms are created equal. If I stayed here again, I would probably choose to pay a lesser amount for an Oceanview room unless I was guaranteed a room in the central sections of Building 1 or the first section of Building 2. Expensive lesson learned.

We spent 7 nights here and had a great time. The location is perfect to access all of Kona's sites, the complex is super clean and quiet with the bonus of experiencing the salt water pool right outside the complex.
The units are fully furnished with daily room service.

We stayed here recently in unit #121. Oceanfront 1 bedroom booked through Costco. The complex is nice and well maintained. The ocean view cannot be beat. We loved sitting on the balcony and the pool/beach area was wonderful. The room itself was OK but is in need of some serious updating. We usually stay up in the Waikoloa Beach Resort and those condos are much newer so maybe the comparison is not a fair one. One reason we always choose a condo is for the ease of cooking a few meals at home. The kitchen itself was nice, but the amenities were pretty much lacking. The pots and pans were scarce and too small. We didn't even have a pot large enough to cook pasta. Cutting board was lunch box size. We had only 3 butter knives and zero steak knives. 2 really small wine glasses. 2?? We were vacationing with friends and we couldn't even have a glass of wine in our room if they didn't bring their own glass. Zero serving bowls. We had also read that units had beach chairs in the closet but ours did not. Our friends did. So, we ended up spending $50.00 to rent beach chairs for the week. Having said all that, our vacation was wonderful, and we made do with what we had. We vacation on the Big Island often and we will return. I'm just not sure we will return to this particular condo complex.

We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom suites and overall it was pretty good. It definitely feels dated with dark brown shag carpet and the cabinets are worn where they have taken lots of use. It was a well furnished kitchen with a full sized fridge, microwave, toaster, and coffee pot. We didn’t cook so I didn’t notice if it had a stove/oven. The views out of the ocean view condos were stunning, and we kept our sliding doors open almost the entire time to take advantage of them!

The pool was nice with plenty of chairs and tables. The hot tub wasn’t working during our stay. The beach is not kid friendly as it is a very rocky shore break. There is a protected area where some people were swimming but we didn’t venture down to it.

The downside: the master bedroom and the living room are separated by sliding panels with slats in them. It allowed for no sound barrier between the 2 rooms, and with kids that get up early, it was literally like having the kitchen in your bedroom. We could clearly hear the coffee brewing from bed.

Overall, we would stay here again if the price is right.

We really enjoyed our stay at Aston Kona by the Sea. Our suite was perfect for our family of five. We had plenty of space to spread out and we had a full kitchen. There is a sandy area next to the ocean with grills, tables with umbrellas and chairs. A great place for our family to enjoy a dinner while watching the sunset. Our after-hours check-in could not have gone more smoothly as we were promptly greeted by the night security man with our room keys and the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful as well. Very close to everything you would want to do while visiting Kona.

It has its own beach area but I don’t think you can swim there since lava rock and wave. But great view from room.
Room is big and has kitchen so you can cook your own meals. Also, inside of room has a washer and dryer so you can wash your clothes when you need. Next time, I will stay here again.

The tv in our room stopped working three days before we left. The promised they would fix it immediately but they never did. The room is nice and the grounds are well maintained but I don’t think there is an urgency surrounding customer issues. Also we were very neat and clean and getting the room ready for someone else would have taken only 30 mins and yet they refused a late check out of 12. Maybe we should have been slobs to justify their unwillingness to give us one more hour to pack up. Not sure I would be back. I think a vrbo would be better and cheaper for the service we received.

This is listed to be a 4 star hotel - I have no idea how. We reserved an ocean front room for 5 adults. The condo was extremely dated (which would not in itself be an issue) with musty, stained carpeting, a dirty bathroom (toothpaste on faucet and dirty stained toilet), shower heads at a height of 5 feet, a broken pull out couch (which was for the 5th adult) with an out of order sign and a HUGE cockroach. When I advised the front desk that the pull out had a sign in it that indicated it was out of order, we were offered another 2 bedroom unit that was to be fumigated during our stay. We chose to avoid the chemicals and were offered instead a blow up mattress. We did not receive any discount for this inconvenience. The hotel advised all guests that housekeeping would not enter occupied rooms due to covid! During our 15 night stay at 5 different condo/hotels on 3 islands this was the only hotel to deny housekeeping. Clearly using covid as a cost-cutting measure. The positives: the view and the ground of the hotel are beautiful and well-maintained, and the beds are decent. I would strongly discourage people from staying at this hotel until they update the rooms. They were gross and not properly cleaned.

There is a sandy beach area that is private. The beach is not a swim able beach, but I feel you get the best of both worlds: private sand and a swimming pool.
