My husband surprised me with a weekend trip to Hot Springs for Christmas. I had never stayed at the Arlington before, but had always wanted to. It is a beautiful historic hotel. We loved everything about our stay. They were even kind enough to bring a microwave to our room. We really enjoyed the bar and listening to people sing karaoke. We will definitely be back.

To be fair, I am generously giving this once upon a time gem four stars, but am leaning on 3. Here are my reasons: We arrived at around 3PM and hoped to check in and unwind before dinner. We pulled in to valet, which we knew was $25/night and were willing to pay under the rainy conditions and for convenience, but sadly, although it was early, valet was completely booked. Here is the deal- if you have 500 rooms and 200 parking spots, one would hope you would figure out the parking situation for your guests in nearly a century. On the bright side of things, we were able to unload at the door and get our luggage inside the building, before locating the nearby garage, which is a few stories tall, but no elevator. It is unattended, and there are signs everywhere that you will park at your own risk. That is $3 per hour, with a maximum of $18 per 24hrs, given that you do not leave the parking lot. Otherwise you will have to pay again. Found parking spot. Parked car and walked back to the lobby. Went to check in and was told that the server was down and they expected it to resume in about 10 minutes. Waited from 3:20 - 4:10, when poor Connor came to the lobby from behind the desk attempting to apologize to a lobby full of people, already irritated. Hotel management the. decided to allow people to check in on paper where a hotel representative wrote down each client’s information and handed them a solid, genuine, good ‘ol fashion key. You know how back in the day we went to hotels and got one key with one long tag (metal or plastic) and it had the hotel name and room # to it? This key- is a throwback to simpler times- to manual credit card machines and college days. Clinging on to the key as if my life depended on it, we headed to our room. Coming down the hallway on the way to our room I thought someone somehow let loose a skunk on the 5th floor or this place. I later learned the awful smell was weed. Somehow in my 40+ years of life I never smelled that before. Judge away! The rooms are definitely a depiction of older times. This once majestic hotel drives home the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s in all it is. If you expect a spacious bathroom with shelves and all? You won’t get that in the standard room. The furniture and appliances are outdated, but it works. Due to Covid, we were told that we could order some food at the bar, but that they did away with their room service staff and there is no room service anymore. There is a Starbucks in the lobby, serving a very limited menu, but beware, when the server is down, they cannot help with any orders either. However, there are a few places to eat within walking distance and you can definitely make it work. Over all, not bad. Not great either. But, we booked here for the history behind it - for old time sake.

I booked my reservation for four 30 minute massages 2 months prior to my trip. It was my Mother’s Day trip with my girls. It should have been relaxing but when got there, paid and was asked to come back just a little before appointment time because we were about 30 minutes early. When we went back we were told to go ahead and go back and they would let us get in robes and wait but that one of the massage therapist had to go home and it would be a little longer maybe 30 minutes. Back in the back the girl came to get us and said it would be at least an hour. We said we would walk around a little and come back. When we came back we were told they could not even tell us a time. They did not offer anything until I finally said no I wasn’t waiting and wanted our money back. Then they offered us tiny cups of bath salts. We waited for almost 1.5 hours and never got massages. Horrible experience. Would not recommend at all.

We stayed here once, but won't stay again. You get what you pay for. I gave it a third star because of location and the fact that it's a historic hotel. I gave it a second star because the hot tub is filled using mineral water from the springs and they a decent set up in the lobby (Starbucks, live bands on the weekend, and a decent bar). I gave it one star because the normals parking is almost two blocks away. If you're not expecting it and don't carry cash, you can't utilize valet parking. There is a paid, covered parking garage next door for the hotel, which was empty. Why not use that as the guest parking garage? Breakfast is just a super deluxe continental breakfast that you'd get for free at a Super 8 motel. Except I had to pay for this breakfast and eat amongst barking (yapping) dogs. The water pressure in the shower goes in and out- it's like a game to see how far into your shower you can get before the water just drips out for a few minutes and you're potentially left with a head full of dripping shampoo with hardly any water to rinse it out. I guess we can think of it as letting your shampoo "set" to get a deeper clean? 🥴
