Traditional Balinese compound owned by a member of the royal family of Mengwi, one of Bali’s main kingdoms of old. The compound is located in a Balinese traditional village, nestled in shady coconut groves, surrounded by rice fields, with three rivers running through. This is your chance to see Bali as you would have found it in the 1920’s.

Created by the late Prince Agung, who sadly passed away three months ago, this is a whole small village resort - with Balinese cottages right in the middle of the surrounding ricefields, an often found concept in Bali, however here the visionary Prince Agung shared the land and revenue from the start with the village‘s farmers. In turn, our small group was treated to a wonderful evening of dance and gamelan with almost 100 participants, all from the village and surroundings.

Village like compound within a Balinese rural village surrounded by rice paddies. The resort is made up of different bungalow style rooms at different parts of the village, all surrounded by the rice fields. The central part cosists of the lobby, grand bale, and a few open halls for breakfast, lunch and dinner, The spirit of the place and the thrill to be in rural Bali counts here. It is not pure luxury, at some point even basic (e.g. breakfast), but the staff is open en caring, dinner delicious. Service level is high. Although our reservation was nof confirmed by the booking site, the staff found us a bungalow and did not charge us.

It is a very beautiful place to go. The room was perfect: we had a four poster bed, with another one oustide in the garden to happily enjoy reading outside, and an outside shower. The swimming pool gives a view of a rice paddy field and the staff is very friendly. The anilations are a little expensive though. There is no driver in the hotel but there is one just 100 meters next to te hotel that I highly recommend.

Nice hotel in an authentic area of Bali, close to Ubud and main attractions. Nice sized and balinese style rooms. Staff is helpful. You can get massages, yoga or cooking classes at extra charges. Only downfall : the breakfast is really light.
