The 5-star resort Amankila, in Bali, Indonesia, is a spirit-lifting sanctuary located on the peaceful east coast with a sweeping stretch of private beach. With sacred Mount Agung as its backdrop, guests can spend their days trekking the unspoilt region or discovering 'Old Bali' - from the water palaces of Tirtagangga and Ujung, to Besakih temple. If guests desire relaxation, they can enjoy wellness experiences in secluded open-air spots under tropical canopies, just a few steps away from their freestanding suites with private pools and expansive terraces for in-room dining.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Amankila delivered a quietly luxurious and service-oriented stay. We would absolutely return.
After pouring over reviews of Bali’s top hotels for months, we’re incredibly happy we decided to stay at Amankila. The grounds are truly breathtaking (not a leaf out of place during our visit). The villas are excellently designed and have an authenticity not available at brand new resorts. The food was very good overall and we found the variety to be solid. But the biggest highlight was the service. From the moment we were picked up by an Amankila driver to the moment we were dropped off at the airport, the service was amazing — anticipating our needs before we even realized them in a subtly, unobtrusive way. The beach and housekeeping staff in particular should be commended for going the extra mile.
A few things to note:
The pictures are absolutely accurate. What you see is what you get — in all the best ways. That iconic three-tiered pool is a showstopper, but so are the beach club, restaurants, and hidden corners all over the gorgeous property.
The beach was pristine during our visit, a testament to the staff cleaning it each day. The beach cabanas were the perfect spot to spend the afternoon!
Other reviewers have been critical of the container ships waiting to enter port. Bali isn’t a private island so some slack needs to be given. We actually viewed the ships as entertainment by counting them each day, noting which had left, etc. It’s all how you view any situation and we chose to approach it with a positive light.
The villas are gorgeous and massive. They’re well maintained and we could not fault them. We had the privilege of staying in a pool villa and infinity pool villa. We actually preferred the greater privacy of the pool villa. It was incredible to dine next to our private pool. And it was especially magical coming “home” after dinner in the restaurants to see a few candles placed around the pool! Again, the staff makes memories at every turn.
For experiences, we didn’t venture off property here as we’d been touring Bali for two weeks. However we did book a private poolside dinner and massages. Both experiences were very good. The thing to note is that we wish we’d have reached out earlier to book a private beach dinner as it wasn’t available during our stay. This is one area where staff could actually be more proactive in advance.
Overall, Amankila and it’s staff lived up to our very high expectations and — now that we’re home — we are dreaming of our days spent at Bali’s “peaceful hill.”

We went to Bali a few days early before a cruise and I wanted a place to recover from jet lag. I picked Amankila and was impressed with the gorgeous room, gracious service and spectacular hillside setting. Our room was spotlessly clean and private; it included a pool and an ocean view. Yes, there were some tankers in the ocean but still it was quite pretty. The staff was genuinely helpful and intuitive; there were many little touches that made our stay special and relaxing. It was such a pleasure to be spoiled. I would recommend the market tour and cooking class with Jati (he is a force of nature) and the tour of East Bali. Both were very enjoyable and interesting.

Looking for a secluded sanctuary at East Bali? This is the right place to begin your Bali experience. The property has pick up and drop off to and from I Ngurah Rai International Airport. It is 90 minutes away and as you get along on the road, they have provided snacks, drink and wifi on board. Kudos to Bapak Nyoman for the great service and attentiveness for my family. As we stepped out of the van, the Amankila family welcomed us by their warm smiles and offerings. We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights and the journey was extraordinary. Arya, our Service Host was detailed to our needs and even if he's home already, he finds time to assist us. Also to the pool attendants (we forgot the name the one with eyeglasses) was always there incase we need of anything. Truly a world class service for everybody. Jodi who assisted us at the Boutique and explain some of the origins of the products there. Thank you also for Mr. Jann Hess for welcoming us at the dinner at Arva restaurant to make our stay extra special. And also to the ones who assisted my mother going down at the Beach Club, you are remarkable 🫡 Terima Kasih to the Peaceful Hill family. We will never forget this journey with you.

Our last trip to Bali was divided into staying at 3 resorts
1st one was Raffles Bali for 1 week
2nd was Mandapa a Ritz Carlton Reserve for 5 days (second time as this is the best resort on Bali)
3rd was Amankila also for 5 days
After staying in Bali for 2,5 half of the week for a second time, I can honestly review all the properties that we have visited :
As we are Luxury Travelers we had very high expectations due to staying at Amankila. It was our second stay with AMAN brand . We have reserved infinity pool Willa number 20. There is only one villa in this category at the resort. This villa is completely overpriced ... but read carefully below. Surroundings of the resort & location :
Views are breathtaking and seeing the ships at the sea was not annoying for us . Unfortunately, this resort is located at the worst beach on Bali that I have seen so far. Also, the facilities around the beach are really very poor. I have visited this beach only 1 time during my stay. The main problem in the resort are “steps “ there is no possibility to have a buggy drive to your villa, so holidays with kids are problematic in this aspect. 6/10
Accommodation : unfortunately comparing to all the resort villas we have stayed through it was one of the worst one. There are no modern solutions inside and furniture are very old. Everything was scratching. Comparing Amankila villa (the most expensive one with 1 bedroom) to the Villa in RC Mandapa or Raffles is just silly. Because there is nothing to compare. 3/10
Service:
The biggest disadvantage was the lac of GEM service… I couldn’t understand how a resort which a price of 2900 USD per night can have standards like that . Room service was barely one per day, and we had to make a special request for extra cleaning. One time after our daily trip we have arrived to the villa which was not cleaned from the morning time. Another time there was a snake - what was funny :) Overall 2/10
Food: it was decent but nothing special There are two restaurants but just next to each other, so there is no variety in this case. 3/10
To sum up- after this stay there is a lack of good feelings about AMAN brand . I was reading a lot about AMAN junkies and truly I don’t understand this phenomenon. For me, Amankila is one of the biggest disappointments through all our hotel life story. Certainly there are much better resorts in Bali - just check all my reviews .

Unfortunately, I cannot give Amankila more than 3 stars (or circles) - with a heavy heart, as I really appreciate the hard work of many people who are doing their best to keep this place class. Let’s talk about those people and the wonderful experiences first. The place is incredibly beautiful, spaced out over a hilly terrain, with many stairs - which I love, for the many outdoor exercise options the stairs give, but it may not be your thing. The villas are amazing, spotlessly clean, the housekeeping team do a great job. The views are breathtaking, the beach is pristine with dark volcanic sand - which again I love, but it may not be your thing. The beach team and the staff at the Beach Club restaurant also do a great job. The place has very good treks to choose from. I went from Tirta Ganga (Water Palace) to Tenganan and it was a good nature walk - the guide and the driver were again those people who did a great job. So did the massage therapist - the treatment was amazing; and the sommelier - there are some very good wines to choose from. I am really thankful for the effort they put in this. However … the problems start in the kitchen. Both restaurants serve mostly meat/ fish dishes, with only several vegetarian ones - some good, some bad. It felt like early 2000s or so - vegetarians would just manage, vegans would find it really hard. Overall, well below expectations. Worse - the problems then extend to the drinking water. The “Cleo” brand tastes as if someone solved anti-mosquito in it - gave me quite a stomach ache after I drank some of it at night. I finally fell asleep to the thought I was at least hepatitis vaccinated. In Aman, really? And finally - on a lovely afternoon, inside a snack going with the afternoon tea, I found a piece of hard plastic - quarter of nail size, most likely from a salt or pepper grinder. I was lucky not to have bitten it (broken tooth guaranteed) or swallowed it. It is really not cool to be constantly reminding staff of dietary requirements and constantly be on guard about the smallest bit or sip I put in my mouth. Nothing to do with relaxation. Plus a few lesser annoyances here and there. It’s sad, as I had a great experience in Amanoi earlier this year, but Amankila has some serious catch-up work to do.

Our stay at Amankila was truly unforgettable. This was our 6th Aman property stay, and while each one is unique, Amankila just might be our favorite of them all.
The architecture of the resort is breathtaking—perched above the ocean, offering dramatic views no matter where you are. The blend of traditional Balinese design with modern amenities made our room particularly special. We had our own private infinity pool overlooking the ocean, which provided a secluded escape. Not like we needed it -- even the public spaces and main pools at Amankila still feel like your own private paradise.
One of the highlights for us was getting massages on the terrace of our room. I had the nourishing massage, while my husband opted for the grounding massage. Both were phenomenal, and having them in such a peaceful setting made the experience even more special.
The staff at Amankila was exceptional. Their warmth and high-touch service made us feel truly cared for throughout our stay, without being overbearing. A special shout-out to the chef—we loved the food so much that when we commented on a few dishes, he graciously printed the recipes, which we’ve already tried at home. So thoughtful!
The resort strikes a perfect blend of luxury and seclusion. If you’re considering Amankila, just go—you won’t regret it!

My wife and I chose this destination for our honeymoon. We are on our third day here, and I have to say this resort lacks the "Aman" name. We are staying in the nicest one bedroom suite on the property (~$2500/night). Everyone tries too hard with little results. The staff are very courteous, but do not speak English well enough to communicate with anyone, including concierge or room service, etc. (They ask me 10 times the same question to the point I just have to say "I'm busy, go away" and that hurts me to say. So far we have gone on their ATV Jungle tour which was alright given that it just started up. Our "private boat ride" was basically a canoe that went less than 10kmh up and down shoreline. Disappointing. Food all tastes the same with no flavor. My favorite food item would be the salt I add. Their "spa" is more or less non-existent and all massages, etc. are done in room. Their "gym" is a few items placed outside on the grass near the beach. I hope our stay improves, but felt compelled to give this review.

My partner has previously stayed at Amankila on a solo visit to Bali and had raved on about how wonderful it was. He was a little bit concerned that after talking it up so highly, that it wouldn't live up to expectations on our visit together. There was no need for that concern!
The resort is simply stunning. The three tier pool with the ocean view was beautiful. Okay so there were a few oil tankers in the ocean, but that didn't mar our enjoyment.
The service is second to none. Every time we left our suite, whether it be to visit the restaurant, or the pools or beach, our suite would be serviced with fresh ice supplied each time. The room was even serviced in the morning on the day we checked out.
The biggest asset though are the staff. Always attentive with excellent service. We chatted with the staff and several of them told us that they have been with Amankila for over 30 years, and others over 20 years. It's a testament that not only does this brand look after its guests so wonderfully, but also their staff as well.

Going to Amankila is a unique experience. Yes, it is expensive. But, it is worth it at least once in a lifetime. As this was my second visit, I knew what to expect, but I had forgotten how good it was. From the moment you are greeted by the staff, you are treated as an honored guest. At Amankila they don’t know the meaning of “no”. My traveling partners and I realized we were in the Aman cocoon when we went to dinner at the restaurant next door, “Sea Salt”, and Laurent the Food and Bev manager at Aman had called ahead to make sure they understood our food allergies. Once you enter the Aman door, every person knows your name, they check you in at your room, and everything is done at your pace. They shuttle you to the local village and pick you up, offer suggestions. The menus are basically “suggestions” and the chef, Jati, will come out to discuss any questions. You want fettuccine Al pesto, no problem. Leaving was difficult. The only thing I would mention is that there are quite a few stairs. There isn’t an elevator and not really any ramps. Captain Morgan
