Chem Chem is, in essence, a love story of open spaces, big skies and a shared dream. Enveloped within 20 000 hectares (55 000 acres) of raw, untainted African bush lies the Chem Chem - Burunge Wildlife Management Area (WMA), with secluded, elegant tent-style accommodation at three locations: Chem Chem Lodge, Little Chem Chem and Forest Chem Chem. Each is designed to evoke the spirit, luxury and intimacy of a vintage safari experience. Situated within a luscious palm-island on the western edge of the WMA is 5-star accommodation consisting of an opulent main house and eight secluded tent-style suites. Each suite, (100m2), has been created from a combination of canvas, lava-stones and wood, and are set a minimum of 80 metres apart to ensure complete privacy and feature indoor/outdoor showers, reading corners, dressing rooms, private patios and expansive views. The permanent structure of Chem Chem’s main Lodge reflects the form of a flamingo with its wings spread wide for landing. One wing holds the full-service gourmet restaurant and an outside fire place, the other wing offers a bar, lounge, fire place and fully stocked library. The Lodge also boasts a viewing deck with awe-inspiring views over Lake Manyara. Outside, discover the gym or the pool hidden in the trees while the Chem Chem Spa offers a new meaning to utter relaxation.

Chem Chem was the highlight of our Safari. A beautiful property with 8 luxurious tents. The styling and interior decorating was fantastic. A lot of thought went into every detail. You have your own guide assigned to you. Our guide, Joseph was the best we had during our whole trip. He took us to a Maasai market and village. Chem Chem has their own private reserve which was wonderful. The camp makes you feel like you are their only guest. Our waiter took care of our our meals, some under the stars. We also enjoyed a proper sundowner, cocktails under the stars. It was a perfect way for us to finish our safari. Pampered in a five star manner, there was nothing not to love.

We had the most incredible experience at Chem Chem. The facilities and location are gorgeous, the accommodations fabulous, the food delicious and the staff beyond compare. Jared and Francis could not have been more lovely and accommodating and we did such fun things - breakfast in the bush with a Maasai warrior, visiting a Maasai village, a walk to Lake Manyara to see the sunset.....all fantastic. And the animals!!! Spectacular. We absolutely can't wait to go back.

We went to Chem Chem for the animals. We fell in love because of the people. Chem chem is a unique luxury safari experience. A spectacular lodge and private semi-Tented yet elegant accommodations set amidst a savannah of free roaming animals. We sat on our terrace while warthogs snorted by, watching wildebeasts, impalas, giraffes and zebras grazing in the field outside our room. The central lodge shares the view of animals while you dine in a stunning space of natural hues and elegant safari decor. What cannot be adequately described in travel guides is the exceptional hospitality you will find at Chem Chem. The managers Shannon, Jared, & Elizabeth were constantly checking in on us, clearly working behind the scenes to ensure that our experience was perfect and exceeded our expectations. Our main dining hosts, John & Francis, were one of the highlights of our time at Chem Chem. They made every effort to provide an outstanding dining experience, accommodated our dietary needs, and served the most spectacular meals we have experienced - both in Africa and the US! They taught us many sayings in Swahili, asante sana! We will always remember playing cards with John & Francis after dinner, while the fire pit glazed and lit up the Savannah, watching the impalas grazing in the distance. It was truly a memory our family will cherish forever. And finally, the highlight of our experience at Chem Chem was spending days and evenings with our guide superior, Mike, who is both knowledgeable and entertaining. We all loved his stories and his gentle manner. We also deeply appreciated our time with Soquenie, our Masai guide who joined us on adventures, introduced us to a Masai family, and provided a unique insight into life in the Savannah. Chem Chem is more than a venue, it is an experience that should be considered a must on a visit to Tanzania.
