The Homewood Suites by Hilton Savannah Historic District/riverfront boasts a welcoming atmosphere with stylish updates and is lauded for its live rooftop music. While the prime riverfront location is popular among guests for its accessibility to local attractions, the experience is sometimes marred by disruptive construction noise. In terms of amenities, the rooftop pool and complimentary breakfast are highlights, although the steep valet parking fee and room cleanliness have been points of contention. Despite the praise for attentive service, some travelers question the value due to high rates and additional charges.

We had a 3 night stay at Homewood Suites. The entire staff couldn’t have been nicer. The complimentary Wednesday evening happy hour was a nice touch. One of our favorite parts of our stay was the rooftop pool/bar. The bartenders were very nice and provided great service and drinks. The hotel provided a nice home base to walk and explore everything Savannah has to offer. You’re only a few steps to the river walk which has numerous shops and restaurants.

This hotel has all the basic needs of a hotel, the hotel is well maintained, it's clean and comfortable, and the staff is very friendly. It also has a great location and made it easy to walk down River Street. But I'm not sure I would stay here again for several reasons. We choose a studio with balcony and a river view which was a nice room with a view of the river.

But the room is laid out oddly with the placement of the bathroom and sink. The sink area has no door and is two feet from the bed so while washing up it has little privacy and is noisy for someone still in bed. Also the shower has a door and only one side opens making you walk into the shower right under the shower head.

The door between the living area and bathroom as stuck and hard to open and close making it a pain in the morning when I got up early before my wife. There were several other odd little things about the room. It was unseasonably cold while we were there and door to the balcony had a major draft, I know they don't usually get that cold but it keep the room a little cool.

We had to use valet one day when we rented a car because there was no other parking and it was $32 a night. I thought this was way high, it wasn't in-season and it's not New York it's Savannah. They also charged us two nights instead of the one it was there, they did fix it when we notified them after questioning whether we told them we weren't returning the car.

Since it was cold the roof top bar wasn't an a pleasant place, but even if it was warm the drinks were bad. I had a margarita and I wasn't able to finish it. But the staff up there was great even through they were stuck outside in 30 degree weather.

John, thank you for reviewing the Homewood Suites by Hilton Savannah Historic District/Riverfront. We are happy to know overall you had a comfortable stay and that you were pleased with our proximity to River Street. However, we are sorry the layout of our room did not meet your expectations and regret your disappointment with our valet prices. Parking is limited in the historic district, and we do attempt to keep our valet parking cost as low as possible for our guests. We hope you will consider giving us a second chance the next time you are in the area. Bryan Cornelius General Manager

It’s difficult to get a really good property and a really good staff at the same time, but this is where Homewood suites shines!

The hotel is only about five years old, so everything still feels very fresh and new. It’s pretty clever though, because the exterior was designed to sort of look “old” , to fit the vibe of historic Savannah.

Without exception, the staff is sincerely friendly and genuine, kudos to the general manager, because everything thinks starts with him/her. So I get the vibe that unless you have a really good attitude you’re not gonna be working there, and that’s the way it should be!

The front desk staff, the breakfast staff, the housekeeping staff… All outstanding. Going back to our room, we could see the housekeeping staff mopping on a daily basis and vacuuming, so they’re not just cleaning up they are cleaning!

Breakfast staff extremely hands on, and pleasant, even though breakfast is included, please try to leave them a couple bucks!

We parked at the liberty Street garage, which is about a 7 to 10 minute walk, it’s 10 bucks a night, so we just dropped our bags off in the lobby and parked to avoid the $32 per night fee Which seems reasonable in a large city but certainly high for Savannah……

We booked this hotel due to its location and because it's one of the few hotels in the heart of Savannah with rooms that sleep 5 without needing a rollaway. We booked a river view 2 queen 1 bedroom suite.   The location is pretty good, the view of the river was nice, and the room did sleep all of us comfortably.  But that's about the end of the positives.

The room was not stocked for our arrival.  Despite our reservation showing 5 persons we were only given 3 towels so had to call down for more.  There was only 1 bar of soap in the room so we again had to call housekeeping. Housekeeping was very responsive and delivered the missing items within 5 minutes of our calls.

The room was not well maintained and was dirty.  We had to clean the tub before the first shower as it was full of long black hair.  The chair in the living area had what we hope was a chocolate stain on the armrest.  For a hotel that is not particularly old it desperately needs room renovations as you can tell that maintenance is deferred.  There was only 1 closet door, the other one was gone.  Sure, not a functional issue, but one that shows the lack oversight from management.

The valet parking charge is well publicized when booking so I was not surprised by it.  I assumed that parking was at some offsite garage that the valets would be running to and from.  However, I could see my car from my room yet no self park option to drive the 100 feet from the entrance to the parking spot and instead had to pay $35/day for the privilege of letting the valet do 30 seconds of work.

Breakfast to go bags were OK, but the bananas were green and completely inedible and useless for that day's breakfast.   Drinks were self-serve in little plastic cups, but a bottle of OJ or water in the to go bag would have been much easier to deal with.  To minimize interactions due to COVID-19 only 2 of us went down to get breakfast and it was simply impossible to bring back 5 bags and 5 drinks.

Regarding the hotel's handling of COVID-19, the lobby was OK with all but 1 customer observing mask rules.  Hand sanitizer and wipes were available in plentiful supply in the lobby.  We stopped up to look around the rooftop pool, but the rooftop bartender was not wearing a face covering/mask and the pool was packed.  There was no social distancing on the rooftop pool/bar area at all so we walked in and walked right back out.

This place has potential, but at this time I can't recommend it.

Excellent hotel, great staff and wonderful location.
Rooftop pool and bar lends to fantastic views of the city and a wonderful atmosphere.
Our room was a suite with a balcony and river view, you could almost touch the huge ships passing by.
My only negative comment, which does affect my impression of the hotel is the fee for parking..no matter where you park in Savannah it’s not cheap! $32. Per night at this hotel.
Suites are equipped with a full size fridge ,built in counter top stove and dishwasher, , with a microwave and an in sink food disposal.plus plates and utensils.

We appreciate the terrific review of your stay at our hotel and also your recommendation. We are happy you liked our rooftop heated pool and relaxed with cocktails at our rooftop bar with its beautiful view of the river and the city. We also enjoyed your description of watching the cargo ships from your room as they traveled to and from the Port of Savannah. It is also pleasing to know you loved our accommodations and all the amenities we offer. We are also delighted that you experienced our courteous service. However, we regret the disappointment you had with our parking fees but are glad your overall stay was not affected by this. Overall we enjoyed our stay here, but there are things that I feel could have been done differently.

Pros: outstanding location. Room was comfortable. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

Cons: Main objection I have is that their website needs to be updated to reflect current COVID limitations, and even the message that plays on the phone while you are on hold still states that the hotel features a hot buffet breakfast, which it decidedly does not at this time. I realize that there is a pandemic happening, but I am guessing that the buffet breakfast has been gone a while, and there is plenty of updated signage in the hotel, including lighted signs, that it has had time to put in, so I think that the messaging could be updated as well.

In the listed room features, I had been confused that it listed both daily housekeeping service and no housekeeping service on the same page. And as of November of 2020, the latter is correct. The hotel provides no housekeeping service at all during the course of your stay. They will bring new towels on request, as well as shampoo and conditioner, but they won’t bring them in your room. They were also pretty slow about picking up linens left outside the room.

There were signs advertising that elevator buttons were cleaned regularly. It may be so, but there is no definition of “regularly” and I will say that over the course of a week, I never once saw anyone cleaning any elevator surfaces. So I’d just say that you should continue to take your own precautions as if this was not the case. Since there are cleaning wipes outside the elevator doors, I’d grab one and use those to touch the elevator buttons.

I also have one general point that I think is common amongst all the hotels in that area which is that it’s not made clear until after you make your reservation that there is the $35/night valet fee, and you pay the same even if you choose to self-park. And incidentally, there is something intuitively wrong to me that they won’t clean your room, but they will get inside your car, which poses a higher risk to the staff than going inside your room.

One note about the sofa bed, which was supposed to be a full sized bed and clearly was a single, but it also does not lie flat. So this being the case, I would recommend requesting a rollaway bed. There is really no room for it, but it’s better than trying to sleep on a slope.

We love staying at Homewood Suites and this location didn't disappoint. When we arrived we were welcomed at the valet parking and it just kept getting easier. The lobby is very open and welcoming. They had a lovely fireplace that had 2 sitting areas on either side. Check in here was a breeze and we quickly got our room keys and up we went. Not far behind came our luggage.
We had a studio suite that was more than spacious for 2 people. We were right by the elevator and ice machine and we can honestly say we never heard a thing. Only small issue was the pillows, they were very soft. Some firmer pillows or variety would be a great addition.
We also utilized the rooftop in the evening. It was a little windy that night so we opted not to use the pool. We did get to sit by the firepit and enjoy our drink as we wound down from our days of touring. The pool (which we didnt use) was very warm so they are not exaggerating when they say they its heated to 86F. Also, to get to the rooftop you do have to go up a few stairs, but they do have a chairlift for anyone needing access.
Breakfast is generally what you expect, and even better, they dont use plastic utensils here :)
Our checkout was even easier, we called down (we had plenty of luggage, 2 women traveling for 2 nights, I'm sure you can imagine lol ) They had our car ready, valet came and got our luggage and loaded it into the car easily.
Each time we used the valet they were fabulous, Nate and Brice were always welcoming.
This hotel is close by everything, you're right in the heart of the Historic District and right on River St. It has all the amenities you could need for a comfortable stay.

Homewood Suites is at one end of River Street. It is convenient to the the historic district. Our room was large and spotless. It had a full size fridge, sink, stove, glasses cups etc. The parking is $32 a night and the car is parked in a secure site right across from the hotel. You can take your car in and out as often as you like but only through the valet. There is a nice roof top bar with pool where you can see across the city. They have a free happy hour from 5.30 to 6.30 with decent wine, beers and food. It was very busy. The wait staff are very nice and helpful. Josh was a lot of fun and gave us a fantastic dinner recommendation (Vic's - I wrote a review and very highly recommended you eat there). Breakfast was also included and it was ok. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel if in Savanah again.

If you stay in a large hotel, you need elevators and two for an 8 story complex is lacking. We did not see any service elevators and think the complex has 150 pus rooms? While the room was large, it did not offer truly valuable space, and offering a full kitchen, the bathroom and dressing area was just tiny. The hotel’s efforts were noble offering a full breakfast with plastic gloves in the buffet line, yet there were lots of people cramped in a small space. It would have been nice if food was available either by delivery, room service, or some other method.
The iron had a short in it, a wall plug was defective and coffee was for two cups during our stay in the room. The TV offered no guide on the screen nor other method. Internet was SLOW and If the room does not have a tub, it must offer a shower cap. The staff appeared friendly and parking was $39 a day, however was efficient. There is also a convenience store in the downstairs area, yet there needed to be a way to order food from the outside. The bright spot might be the pool area on the 5th floor and the River View, which was real nice. I tried to use some accumulated Hilton Points upon making my reservations and using my points actually increased my price. Let’s hope that is a glitch. I tried to book the same room on three successive days and got a different price each day. This was about 6-10 days in advance. I don’t really have an answer for that one. When Booking the room and it allowed me to pick the room, We had a River View. After they upgraded our room due to my Diamond Status, we did get a bigger room, but it was mostly a parking lot view. However, I was able to make sure our car was safe. Hilton is generally a good hotel source, yet maybe dollar for dollar, this one was off the mark. The kitchen area is nice, yet not very well stocked with essentials to actually cook, but the microwave, hot plate, and refrigerator were impressive. It was not really stocked with knives, forks, and basics. If I return to Savannah, I will certainly review hotels more carefully, but might find this was a better value. Who knows? Right now, I question the location. Now the location to the Ferry was a nice perk. Wanda was helpful during my stay. Happy Travels DE

I was very pleased with this hotel. The location was great because I could leave my car parked. I only used my car to go to the beach. The hotel is on the far end of River Street but it's only a short walk to where the action is. I liked the location because it was nice and quiet. The hotel staff were very friendly. The room was very nice. I selected a room with a balcony and river view. It was nice to come to the room at the end of the night and relax on the balcony. Also, loved lounging on the balcony early in the morning. The room was clean. The only complaint I have is there was what looked like make-up on the sheets on one of the queen beds. I have gotten into the habit of bringing my own sheets and blanket so I just slept on the 2nd bed. Also, the one thing housekeeping seems to forget to clean in many hotels is the microwave and fridge. Because of covid, I brought cleaning spray and wipes but wasn't too happy that I had to clean the microwave before using it. Other than those few things, the room looked very clean. Due to covid, the hotel only offers a bagged to go breakfast which consists of a muffin, banana, breakfast bar and yogurt. Totally understandable during these times. If you need a full breakfast, it's only a short walk to restaurants. Everyone wore masks and there is hand wipes and sanitizer by each elevator. Also, there is signage reminding guests to social distance. There is a nice rooftop bar and pool.... one of the reasons I selected this hotel. The parking is valet only which sucks because at $35 a night that is pricey and may prevent me from staying at this hotel in the future unless I get a good deal on a room. Overall, I had a wonderful time. I felt very comfortable wherever I went because everyone wore PPE and socially distanced.

It was a pleasure having you as our guest at Homewood Suites by Hilton Savannah Historic District/Riverfront. We are happy to know you loved your room, especially the balcony and our great location, as well as our courteous staff. However, we are sorry for the housekeeping oversights you mentioned.
