Whilst I think we were lucky with the condition of our room in comparison to other reviews here and conversations we had with other guests, this hotel charges PHANTOM FEES that are in the ‘small print’. The fees are £40 A NIGHT for use of the wifi, the room phone which doesn’t work, safe which doesn’t work, a ‘gym’ which we were never shown. We chose this hotel for the price and location, as I’m sure everyone else does too (the location is great) - we spend little time in our room on city breaks so the room being tired and in need of TLC didn’t really bother us. If it does bother you though, this hotel is a catfish and looks NOTHING like the pictures online. Don’t stay here if you want executive, new high class rooms. We stayed 8 nights and in total the hotel fees were half of our whole stay. £320! That is an excessive amount of money for facilities that don’t exist, took us way over our budget and there was nothing we could do about it because the small print states ‘hotel fees apply’. It is a trap, and the hotel staff don’t care. ***Do not stay here and spend the money they charge you in secret on a better room somewhere else in the city. ***

Hotel's Favourite
We stayed at this hotel a few years ago and have jumped around from various neighbourhoods. As of today, The Manhattan will ALWAYS have us as a repeat customer after the service we received from Kiat Lim (in-house reservations). We booked our 3 night stay through a third party 2 months ago and after trying for 5 days to cancel/change our stay through the third party, I decided to call the hotel myself. Since we are in unprecedented times, Kiat was kind enough to cancel without penalty/expectation to rebook. I spent over 15 hours with the third party agency waiting to get answers over 5 days, and in 12 minutes Kiat was able to assure me all would be okay and we would not be charged. Wish I had called this hotel myself 5 days prior. During such stressful times with regards to travel and re-arranging plans etc..., Kiat was absolutely wonderful. We will be back in Oct for the long weekend to continue our plans and will not go anywhere else. Thanks again to Kiat for his incredible service!!!!!

I came to the city during the NYC Marathon weekend, so all the decent hotels were either fully booked or overpriced. I found this hotel and although I saw the bad reviews, I thought to myself "What can be so awful about a 4 star hotel in the middle of Manhattan?", also the price was reasonable, so I booked this place for 2 nights. OH I was wrong... It can be so awful and even more... This place is a real dump, that hasn't been renovated for a decade. Maybe a 2 star. At first glance you can be fooled by the nice facade and lobby and think maybe this is a decent place. However, once the elevator opens, you start to understand your mistake. As I used the elevator I was sure I am going to get stuck, from all the noises and trembling. When I got to my floor, I was horrified. The hallway looked like a cheap flea motel, rather than a 4 start hotel, the walls were dirty and the carpet was filthy, with stains of liquids that I didn't want to know. The doors of the rooms were broken and the paint was peeled. I was sure that it can't get any worse, but it did once I've opened the door. The room was tiny and nasty, the walls were dirty and the carpet looked even worse than the one in the hallway, so I wore flipflops the whole stay, just so my feet won't touch it. The bed was low and squeaky and the sheets were dirty with unknown stains, that again, I didn't want to know. The bathroom's walls and ceiling were filled with mold and again, I used flipflops just not the touch the floor while showering. The noise insultation was a complete joke as I could hear both the street and the surrounding guests, like a big party inside my room. I needed to turn on the noisy A/C, just to try and block the other noises, so I will have only one type of noise at night... The only thing good about this hotel is the location, but it can't justify such a terrible place. Be ware and DON'T GO !

1.) No temperature control - the excuse from your staff that the city doesn't allow A/C this time of year is insane. We have a perfectly functioning temp controlled room in our new hotel. 2.) I cleaned your hair dryer for you - it looked like it hasn't been cleaned in 5 years. 3.) The shower bottom is full of air underneath the worn out surface. 4.) The refrigerator you sent up went out on us and ruined all our yogurt and snacks for the kids. 5.) The mattresses - if you want to call them that - were SUPER uncomfortable. 6.) The pillows - OMG, how long since they have been changed?! Pillow protectors are standard in the hospitality industry. 7.) And this is the primary reason I went to the trouble to move 4 people to a new location - BLACK MOLD. The bathroom is covered in it. Of course when you are too cheap to run A/C for circulation, you should expect constant mold.

Super friendly and helpful staff from Al (doorman), Elliott (luggage assistant) Senka (check in) to Willam (breakfast assistant). It was great to have tea and fresh fruit first thing in the morning without having to leave the hotel! Maybe some of the rooms and hallways could be updated, but for the location and price, it’s not THAT bad. It’s NYC…..we didn’t spend that much time in our rooms. Decent size rooms (we had 4 in each room) and comfortable beds. Parking right at the hotel too! The hotel will place your luggage in a secured room if you want to explore the city more before getting your car. Our family had a wonderful time visiting The Big Apple! See you next time :)
