DON'T STAY HERE! I stayed here for only 2 nights, the minute I arrived I wanted to leave it made me feel sick being there. I don't understand how it is allowed to be open to the public with mold and species everywhere in the bathroom. It is by far the worst hostel I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in places that are $5 a night. I don't understand how they are allowed to charge someone $100 a night for a place that shouldn't even be allowed to be open to the public. They also had renovation still going while it was open in the middle of the hallway?! Is that allowed? If you want to have a prison experience this is the place to stay. Four walls no windows no room to stand up to walk around your room, you feel suffocated. I thought have no window was illegal?! PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND DON'T BOOK HERE. I spent so much time trying to find somewhere eles to stay once I arrived here.
I’ve made some bad life choices, I’ll be the first to admit. But letting my mate Ash book us into this place has to rank up there with the best of them.
Let’s start with the positives: There are none.
I know a word or three but I struggle to describe this place in more erudite fashion than ‘Utterly horrible’.
I suppose if you’re an aficionado of interesting stains then this place may hold some appeal. Additionally, if you like bedrooms without floor to ceiling walls and a wire mesh roof above your tiny cubicle/cell then that’s probably a perk. Personally, I’m not that keen on hearing every other person staying on my floor snore, sneeze and make other bodily noises, but y’know, different strokes and all that.
I’m not a fussy traveler, I do prefer a bathroom where I go in and get cleaner rather than dirtier.
Look, I don’t like writing negative reviews but there is honestly no justification for how unpleasant this place is. None.
Actually, I’ve just thought of a positive. The place is so dreadful that I was inspired to get the hell out of there as early as possible each morning. So I probably saw more of New York as a result.
The Victorian building that is HMP Brixton has better facilities than this Shanghai-themed human kennel.
Each “room” is approximately 6” x 4”, consisting of a bed, the mattress of which smells like the lavatory of a recently deported vagrant of New York City.
The cubicles are divided by ply board, thinner than anything known to man. They have no ceiling, but instead a wire mesh apparently borrowed from the local battery chicken farm. This vertical open plan design allows for all your senses to be employed through the night. The smell of body odour twinned with various grunts, snores and farts allows for exotic dreams.
The three communal bathrooms that service around 50 guests are as you would expect; wet, smelly and fit for any would-be legionnaire.
It’s cheap and you get what you pay for, but the website grossly misrepresents what the place offers. Easily the worst place I’ve ever stayed in, and that includes cockroach infested hostels in Hong Kong.
It's shocking how bad the state of cleanliness was at this place, in desperate need of care and thicker walls in the prison cell sized rooms. Stay out of the shared bathroom too. To be fair there are places available in Manhattan at a similar price that don't go as far as this. The size and standards have been seen elsewhere but at least the other places were clean.
It's a discount place, so you get what you pay for. The staff are very nice. However, they have a real noise control problem where they will let people talk loudly in the open areas at midnight, or even chat at the desk while you're trying to sleep. Also, the bathrooms desparately need regular cleaning with bleach. They're honestly a little scary to use.
