The City Club Hotel boasts a prime location that guests love for its proximity to attractions; however, opinions about the hotel's atmosphere are divided, some finding it charming while others take issue with its outdatedness and occasional uncleanliness. While travelers are pleased with the hotel's amenities and the comfort of the rooms, there's a sense that renovations are overdue, and some amenities are missing. Service quality has been inconsistent, with reports of both attentiveness and rudeness. Moreover, the value for money has been a point of contention due to unexpected fees and refund challenges.

We stayed here with our family just last week. We have 3 kids and The location is really ideal to a lot of New York attractions such as radio city, Rockefeller, Times Square etc. It was convenient for us to walk to those things and there is a subway station within walking distance.

it was a little bit of an older hotel as far as decor and style but I don’t care about that because when I’m in NYC I’m only in the room to sleep 😂 the shower was awesome though! And I liked that they gave you qtips bc I forgot mine!

The best thing about this hotel was the staff though! They were so friendly and so helpful. Our first room was hot and the AC wasn’t cooling well so they immediately got us a different room and even offered to let us keep our things in our old room for the night while we just slept in the new room because we had young kids who were already in bed. They also offered to move our things for us the next day if we just had it packed up. When we were leaving we were rushing to get everything out to the car bc our car arrived a little early and it’s a little hectic with 3 kids and the front desk staff came out and helped us carry things to the car and he even took my kids trash so I didn’t have to run back in and find a trash can. I was just so impressed with their level of customer service that I would definitely stay there again.

I have been going to The City Club Hotel after it opened as a hotel, around 2000. It's my go-to place in the city and the management is exceptional as they recognize me when I return and upgrade me when available.

What I like best is the location, the small lobby and the warmth of the hotel. It's a little home away from home. I have stayed in about every room over the years, and I have my favorites. The two-floor loft suites are very nice with two-story windows, neat period ornamental plaster ceilings, and a balcony overlooking 44th.

I also like the proximity to everything, Times Square, Fifth Avenue, etc.

It's a great place to stay, why not?

We (a couple of sisters+husband/brotherinlaw) stayed just one night in a king+daybed room. We were attracted to this hotel because of its proximity to the Harvard Club and this unique room configuration option.

The hotel itself is tiny but makes effective use of space. No place to sit in the lobby but the second floor landing looks down over the lobby and has plenty of seating and tables (though the lighting was a bit lower than it could have been). Signage could be added stating availability of second floor lounge. The elevator is classically slow for an old building but gets you where you need to go - be sure to build in a few extra minutes.

Minibar AND fridge were both subtly located behind a painting and impressively stocked with good snacks and good quality wine (red, white and champagne). A cursory glance didn't yield a price list but I am certain one could be obtained in short order. The front desk/bell staff were very friendly and helpful (and in the later hours, a shade quirky, though not prohibitively so). We called down twice from the room for extra towels and another blanket, both of which we received within moments and neither of which it turned out we really needed.

The daybed itself was comfortable enough, and unexpectedly warm for the seemingly limited setup of just a fuzzy blanket and a bottom sheet. It was not *not* an upholstery cushion, which is more intended for sitting for brief periods than it is for long hours of sleep. It would be an impressive upgrade to swap out the foam padding for memory foam or other mattress-like material.

Only bit which caused a raised eyebrow was the state of the bathroom floor - the tiles were lifted in several places and the floor around the toilet was noticeably spongey. Admittedly I neglected to mention its condition to the staff. Management, if you see this, our room number was 206.

Our gratitude for the very serviceable accommodations!

I could not have asked for a better experience during my stay at the City Club Hotel. Prefect location in the heart of NYC close enough to everything, perfectly situated near public transportation and easily walkable to near by restaurants and the famous 5th Avenue department stores.

The City Club Hotel provides a boutique atmosphere. During my stay here I found the staff to be accommodating, inviting, and helpful. I was greeted by the concierge Jose outside the hotel, where he escorted me to the front desk for checkin and even aided me with my bags to my room. Jose provided me with all the information I need to make my stay even more pleasurable.

I will recommend City Club Hotel to anyone visiting NYC !

Here's why I gave 5 stars :
Front Desk : I have been traveling over 15 years and after a seven hour flight to New York this was by far the best hotel I have ever been to the front desk staff was amazing I did not get a chance to catch everyone's name but I am almost 100% sure I encountered all of them because I was there for about a week. I will say that each and every staff member at the front desk went above and beyond whether it was just answering questions, checking on me, and the check in was extremely smooth. If you need a taxi for the airport they do have someone that works with them upon availability
House keeping: The room was very clean I did have a room that had a balcony the balcony area was very clean as well they did also provide towels extra blankets and everything that I needed during my stay and their service was great. The one thing I will say is that our air conditioner did not work when we first got there but the maintenance came first thing in the morning and fixed it in less than 10 minutes I say that as a positive thing to show that maintenance was very efficient and fast of course things happen.
Room :A lot of people don't know this about New York but most of the hotels are a lot older and they are not new so there will be some things like little small cracks in the wall or a very modern style bed. The room was amazing the location of the room was great it was a wonderful view.
Location : The location of this hotel is directly in Times Square it's about a 2 to 4 minute walk to the middle of times Square it's an amazing place and it is also next to the subway access and it is convenient if you have never been to New York.
Overall service : The overall stay was great everything went well. I cannot remember the person who checked me in but he was extremely nice his hospitality from the time I got there to the time that I left was just amazing sometimes you don't know what people are going through especially during a time like this pandemic to receive this Nice nice customer service it was a pleasure for me.
I hope to come back to new York in the future and hopefully I can get the same room style !
Thank you all so very much

Accommodation was good. Everything clean and neat worth of what you pay. They charge you for the snacks and water bottle inside room that is very expensive and also snacks and juices that kept in hotel room were expired, I tried throwing out expired stuff , still charged for the expired stuff. Be careful while taking out snacks or drinks from the room, always check dates on them.

I booked 3 nights for my anniversary based on the most recent reviews but our stay at City Club was disappointing to say the least. It was bad enough to motivate me to spend the time to write this review.

1. Reading the reviews, I requested and confirmed with the front desk prior to arrival for a balcony room, TWICE. We did NOT get it. What we got was a smelly and decrepit room with a nice view of other building walls.
2. Bugs in the room. My wife got bit by something the first night. What a way to start a romantic weekend.
3. The room smelled musty and putrid. It was dreadful to walk back to the room every night.
4. The hallway on our floor reeked of marijuana every day
5. We were awoken in the middle of the night several times by noisy guests

This hotel needs some serious remodeling for a "4-star" hotel. We barely stayed in our rooms except to sleep. The frontdoor guys were friendly and helpful which is why I gave it two stars instead of one. I can't say much about the front desk staff as our interactions were limited after no amendments were offered when they didn't fulfill our confirmed room request. The location is decent but the issues we encountered will not be seeing us go back.

I’m really not sure how there are so many positive reviews. We arrived late last Saturday after a long journey only to arrive at the hotel to complete disappointment. We were informed we had been ‘upgraded’ I worry for the people that stay in the room we had previously booked, the room smelt like damp and cigarettes (there was still a shower cap on the smoke detector). It was not only the room that smelt like smoke the corridor did too as there was a lively party happening at the end of the corridor. We spoke to the concierge and asked to change rooms.. they then lied to us saying the hotel was fully booked - it 100% was not, as other than the party guests we saw no one else in the hotel. The concierge also said it’s an old building which is why it smells like damp...! They were also aware of the party but said it shouldn’t be too loud. The view out the window was of a brick wall and the paint was peeling off the walls. Location is good and bed is comfy - that’s the only thing they have going for them.

I wasn't sure what to expect given that this hotel has very mixed reviews and while we ran into some issues with our stay, it was a decent overall experience. Pros: good rates for NYC in a convenient location (especially for the queen luxe room), grab and go snacks in the lobby, comfortable bed, friendly cleaning staff.

Cons: We booked the petit full room and it's just way too small for more than one person. The website states that the room includes a desk, which was not the case. There was space only for the bed and one small nightstand. We switched to a larger room with a queen-sized bed on our second night, which was much better and included all amenities outlined online. Although I paid more for the petit full room than the listed rate online for the larger room, the staff was reluctant to switch us (they initially told us they were sold out when I could see multiple rooms available online). I was also told there was a discounted parking rate across the street, which was not the case. That being said, the standard garage rate is very good for NYC.

For the price, City Club is a good choice - just be prepared if booking the smaller sized room!

Stayed at City Club Hotel for 3 nts in Queen-Luxe. The description on booking.com stated there was 1 queen bed & a twin bed, which was perfect for my daughter and I. Upon arrival, we found that the room only had one bed. I went back to front desk to see what they could do and Syeda was so amazing & helpful. She took a few minutes and then informed me she could give us 2 rooms near each other for the same total price. Wow - that's customer service! I was impressed. The rest of staff was also fantastic and location close to Bryant Park in midtown was perfect. Also, a big thanks to Amoudie (spelling?), who was also great. All and all, the hotel was very nice and we'll be back. Thanks for a lovely stay!

I could not agree more. This is the first time I've been back since 2017. While Covid-19 has limited some of the exquisite service (like room service) the staff here does everything possible to accommodate all of their guests, giving consideration to each individuals' needs. I almost hate to share how much I love City Club Hotel, in case it is booked the next time I need to stay midtown. Convenient to EVERYTHING, NYC has to offer, at all mass transit hubs. You cannot make a better choice. I used to stay at the Algonquin, being a huge Mrs Parker fan, but it's now just another Trump Dump. This is my home away from home. I'm only missing my bathtub. Weighted shower curtains would help keep me from flooding the bathroom floor, but I just pay attention as I wouldn't want to cause any damage. I'm privileged to be on the 9th floor. It is wonderful. The owners might want to consider updating the WiFi. An inexpensive improvement with a few boosters. Many websites won't let me log onto my phone as the network is "unsecure." Not a big deal. I work it out. It's a global pandemic. We all have to make adjustments.

Hello, are their parking options nearby? We are driving in as part of a road trip.
Answer from Gretchen
Astoria, New York1 helpful vote
Yes, across the street, but it would be less expensive to park near the airport in Queens, not AT the airport, and to use NYC's most excellent mass transit system. You can always hop in a cab, though at busy times, you can't beat the subway, which is NOT like it appears in films. It is one of the safest places I've ever been. Sit in the conductor's car. NYC residents are proud of their city and can give you the BEST directions from the subway.
