Booked a last minute trip to New York and were on a budget, this hotel fell in to that price category. We found the Row to be a little tired and dated in places but nothing that couldn’t be fixed easily with a little TLC. Sleep wasn’t an issue for us, during the 6 nights we stayed we always slept very well despite being opposite the ice machine. The location of the Row was excellent, Times Square is just minutes away on foot and there subways near by for exploring the city. Security was never an issue for us, every time we re-entered the hotel before getting in an elevator we were always asked to see our room key, this is something we appreciated. We’d have no problem staying here again.

You're better off elsewhere. I booked a one night stay to attend an event. Avoided the $40 self-parking fee by finding street parking. The lobby was dark, more like a night club, and smelled so much like weed. Red flag #1 - security checking your room keys before allowing you into the elevator bank. Red Flag #2 - The room. It was tiny, with only room for a bed a small desk. No wifi instructions anywhere. There was mold on the walls, and the bathroom was last updated in the 90's (or so it seems). There was also no ventilation in the bathroom - terrible. Was also awoken by someone trying to enter my room (without making any announcement as to why they were). Red Flag #3 - My room was adjacent to an elevator bank, and noise filled the room all night making it very difficult to sleep. Folks - do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere.

Booking sites should not be allowed to display the price exclusive of the 'resort fee' or other add-ons. The price you see should be the price you pay, so you can compare one hotel to another, as is more or less done with airline tickets. "14.75 % TAX, US$ 3.50 City tax per night, US$ 29.50 Resort fee per night"

I booked The Row for an NYC family trip in November. The location was convenient and staff friendly. However, the room was dirty and neglected. I have stayed all over NYC (as I frequent for work). and this was the worst experience I’ve had. The carpets were filthy, and at first glance looked moldy. The bathroom was in need of updating. Peeling paint, dirty grout, and a clump of hair on the “clean” towels. On the inside of the door frame was a splatter of some white substance. The photos on popular booking websites are deceiving and absolutely had me fooled.

Firstly, we are 2 very relaxed travellers in our 30’s. Usually once we have a comfy bed and a decent shower we’re happy but I felt compelled to write a review on this hotel as the photos and website are very misleading. This hotel is not a 4 star hotel. The only positive is the location which is v central to everything. I will start with the room. The room is small even for NYC (bear in mind we actually had an upgrade also to a superior room with a large bed on floor 20 - I dread to think what the usual rooms are like). On the face of it the room appears clean but as you get into it you can see all the dirt and dust in corners and general uncleanliness of the place. It needs a deep clean. All surfaces are chipped and generally old. Which you wouldn’t mind except this hotel is pitched as modern and clean lined etc. The bathroom is very cramped and poor shower pressure. Fixtures felt like they were very loose to the wall and I was worried they would break during our stay. Basic room with no tea/coffee facilities. Next the reception and common areas. There was always a long queue for the check in/check out desk anytime we left or returned to the hotel. This appeared to be the norm and there was no clear system or instructions in place. Staff avoided eye contact and you could see they didn’t know how to manage the crowds. We only saw the bar open once during our 4 night stay. There is no restaurant as per the photos and the little shop is tiny and rarely open. The whole reception area and lift area were consistently in near darkness. I think it was to hide the dirt and the disorganised state of the place. The photos on the hotel website and official trip advisor photos must have been taken a long time ago before they decided to drop the place into constant darkness. The final thing and the nail in the coffin as to why I could never stay here again was the lift system. I cannot emphasise how frustrating this was and how it upset us daily. It’s a system whereby you input your room number and it allocates you a lift number. However when you add in the crowds that are constantly trying to get a lift it turns into chaos. It allocates you full lifts and you can’t select another one until the door of the full one closes and the whole process starts again. We were waiting 15/20 mins for a lift most times. Crazy when you are on the 20th floor and dont have the stairs as ab alternative. Overall I could not recommend this hotel. So basic for the prices they are charging and the photos of the rooms and receptions areas are so misleading and far from the reality of the hotel. There are better hotels out there for the price they are charging ans I would recommend seeking them out.
