Planning to go NYC soon? Please do not stay in this absolute dump apartments/hotel. We spent a long weekend in November 2020. We had a very bad experience during our time there. There is a $120 non-refundable deposit with no cancellation possibility, on which the manager/owner didn’t communicate at all. We called them multiple times in order to get our deposit back. This is the first time we stay in a place where bath towels, coffee maker, pots, and silverware were limited and un-useful. In addition, you need to pay extra $ to get wi-fi. The chairs provided were a little broken and the ceiling fan was dirty (pictures below). The customer service was very poor and rude, with incompetent receptionists.

We brought all this to the manager’s attention and the only response we received was: “This is disrespectful for me. I have been in the business for 35 years and what you are complaining does not make sense” In addition, the manager also mentioned that they pay $75 to another company for cleaning services. If that is the case, let me tell you this is a waste of money as per the ceiling fan photo and the smell/dust in the room.

Everyone: Please do not waste your money coming to this place.

Please stay away from this place. There is a $120 security deposit that is required for any stay. Over 2 months later, no refund of deposit. Numerous calls and still no refund. Facility smells bad too.

Few people were having dîner there because the place closes at 9:30 pm.
The food is good and service ok.
However the way they do with client tends to dishonesty and tourism tricks.
We had booked the reservation through Open Table application for 20:30. We arrived few minutes earlier and they “cancelled” the reservation on Open table which we discovered after the dinner.
As a result, you have no way to comment the place and this is why it is fait, in return, to express our frustration and disapproval here.
With the bill, they charged us the “tip” included without requiring our consent. We would have consented more than the usual 20% but given this strange behavior, we just can’t agree this way of treating customers.
We had a steak a week before and returned to the palace because it was good.
However there is no way we will return to a place where the butlers and team are authorized to deal in such a stupid way with the customers.
So unless you like to be treated like sheep’s or stupid people, you should prefer keens or other steakhouse around instead of this new Wolfgang.

When we arrived to the hotel check-in was very easy after arriving from a long flight. The front desk did a great job in helping us get settled in which made my stay easy. This hotel is central of so many places which makes it even more amazing! Room were clean , has a small kitchen. We had the pleasure of meeting the manager Eliza, who greeted us at our stay she was so resourceful. Keep up the good work

Cosplaying as affordable shelter just for hidden fees to remind you you’ll never be able to afford a bed. And if you have no choice but to spend the money you’re give the absolute most disgusting room possibly as a laugh in your face that this is all you’ll even afford. You guys suck

Do not book this place. They have not returned the deposit and Booking.com has been super unhelpful in retrieving it. You have to send them tons of paperwork and banking statements and there always seems to be just one more obstacle. The place is also a dump.

WORST experience ever. They are actual CHEATERS. They will charge you when you arrive on inexistent reasons, like City Tax even when you have already payed for it and for an amount 10 times the right one. You will have no choice to accept it (you can't go somewhere else, you have already payed in advance..). My advise is just avoid this hotel at any rate.

This must be the only hotel in the United States without any chairs at all for guests. None in the rooms nor in the hall designated as a lobby. All the negative reviews here are correct. Falsely depicted on Orbitz as a hotel, this seems to be some sort of grey area private residence taking advantage of anyone desperate for a last minute room on Manhattan for a large group. Ned’s uncomfortable and dangerous. Staggeringly rude staff. There is no where to put you things except on the floor and that’s where you sit, too, because the beds are impossible to sit on.

That said, it’s a block from the Empire State Building next to the best Korean food in the city and a short walk from Times Square. Safer and more private than a hostel. Actually worth the money for hardy travelers.

This is 2/3 star accomodation in terms of staff. Facilities and rooms. But 4/5 in terms of location, I came here with my 15 year old Son and we don't mind roughing it, but I wouldn't bring my wife here. It was quite expensive for what it is as well.

I don’t normally leave reviews, but what we experienced whilst at ‘The Grand NYC’ can’t go unreported. Everything I will say is genuinely true.
We did read reviews before going, and we had low expectations, it’s a ‘cheap’ place to stay for its location, but still approx £100 per night, not insignificant by any means. The general consensus was don’t expect more than a bed to sleep in for the money, but hey, you’re near Times Square etc, how bad can it be. Warning - it’s genuinely appalling.
When we checked in, we had to stand waiting whist a guest in front complained. Alarm bells should have rung, but what can you do, we’ve booked and paid. The man on the entrance is not friendly. In fact he was absolutely rude and dismissive. He took our passports, scanned my credit card and threw me a key. No words of welcome, nothing. Ah well, we’re not paying for him to be nice (are we?) up to the room we go. Squalid conditions, I’ve worked in prisons and this was honestly far worse. Floor dirty and sticky, as were the walls; uncertain if clean sheets or not. Window had a curtain that only covered half, so the bright lights of the opposite building shone through all night. There was no sound insulation, I’ve recorded the noise on my phone from 1am and 5am as evidence for my claims. You will not sleep without ear defenders. Honestly. It was described as a double and single bed, it was actually a bunk bed, no so much as issue for us, but be aware if climbing ladders in the night is an issue for you.
We knew the bathroom was shared, again, low expectations, but what they don’t tell you is there is one toilet (1!) for the ENTIRE FLOOR of around 40 rooms, so whilst you’re trying to have a shower (in the same room as said toilet) you have a queue of people at busy times queuing to use the single toilet as you’re trying to wash. It’s literally crazy. Oh, and smelly.
All of the above we put up with for the first 3 days of our 7 day holiday. It was poor, but like we said, we had low expectations. NYC is after all an expensive place to stay. It all came to an atrocious ending after we’d been out on a trip all day, we left at 6am and got back to our room at 11pm, just wanting to get to sleep. Up we go, open the door, and THERE IS A RAT SAT ON OUR TABLE, crawling over our toothbrushes, clothes and who knows what. The window and door was closed, so it must have its own entry system / bedroom within our room! We freaked out. This is a rat in our actual room where we are supposed to sleep. How can that happen. We ran down to reception and met a lovely (rude, contemptuous, horrible) man called Rohan. He said he wasn’t the manager, just security. Not his problem, come back in the morning when someone might care. I’m so mad at this point. I’m tired, frustrated and this guy couldn’t care less if he tried. He asked how many (As if one or one hundred rats would make a difference?) and when I said only one he laughed, said leave the door open and wait for it to run out. This was his actual advice. I demanded to speak to a manager. He said she lived away and has her phone off. (Unfortunately this was true, phone was off, didn’t answer, no way to contact her - looking at previous reviews, I don’t think she would care if she did miraculously answer). I phoned our booking agent who offered a £50 voucher to move somewhere else. Not helpful at midnight in manhattan. Couldn’t get a coffee for that in some hotels. What choice did we have but to go up to our room, sleeping with the light on hoping it didn’t return. We decided between us we would be leaving the next day regardless. We could not stay here. The security man promised the manager would speak to us in the morning and we could be offered another room if there was one available. She never came / spoke / did anything. (I’ve seen since that they a manager has relied to some reviews, if they do, and say otherwise, I promise they are lying). We woke the next day early, knackered and frustrated that this was ruining our holiday. We went to the entrance area (I’ve referred to it as reception, it’s not. It’s just a dude who sits there not helping at all. They have no customer service experience at all, and will happily tell you they don’t care). I’m getting quite concerned now at a lack of evidence, and knowing how sneaky they are, I secretly recorded my interaction with a man called Ebeneza. As he didn’t know I was recording, he was brutally honest. He admitted this wasn’t a hotel (despite my booking confirmation and travel company referring to it as a hotel) but a building where different people let out different rooms. He said they know rats are a problem (but it’s “an old building, so what do you expect”). [Recorded]. He also said the manager won’t come as there’s nothing they can do. I said we’re going to leave, he said that’s fine. The tone and shouting involved was literally appalling, and I’m so glad I have it as evidence. You would not believe it. I wish I could place sound recordings as part of the review!
Before leaving I cancelled my credit card as I’ve no doubt they would charge ridiculous sums for pathetic reasons. One of the people complaining in front of us when we arrived were charged $75 for locking themselves out of their room accidentally. It doesn’t appear rare to get suspicious charges that you can’t argue.
I’ve also reported the ‘hotel’ to New York’s Bureau of Community Environmental Health in the hope of (if not closing them down) at least making them clean it up a bit.
I hope I don’t come across as too harsh in this review, but terrible doesn’t come close to this experience. It was abysmal, catastrophic and I expect my credit card company to try claim something back.
I hope you will think twice before booking. We have ended up spending more as we’ve had to book a second hotel for the last few nights. Spend the money and enjoy an actual hotel as NY is great!

They will tell on the phone your booking is correct, however when you get there they will add on extra fees and take the payment on your card. They take payment to "secure" your room and then you make cash payment when you turn up and they are meant to refund the card payment. They try to wack on extra fees to give you less back on your card and you have to really fight to even get your refund back.
