Travellers' Choice
There is no better location to choose when visiting San Diego than Old Town. This quaint neighborhood dates back to the 1700s when Father Junipero Serra established the first mission in California. Today it has three state parks brimming with history and culture, original buildings and churches, museums, galleries, restaurants and unique shops. Many attractions, like the State Historic Park, are open to the public at no charge. And in the center of it all is the contemporary Hilton Garden Inn San Diego Old Town/SeaWorld Area - the only brand new hotel built in Old Town in over a decade. Large guest rooms offer comfy king or two queen-size beds, 47-inch flat-screen HDTV, free Wi-Fi internet access, an ergonomic work desk and chair, microwave, Keurig(R) coffeemaker with complimentary coffee and tea, and a mini-refrigerator. Stylish bathrooms feature granite countertop vanities and roomy glass-enclosed showers. Offering fabulous views and a separate living area, our top floor suites are perfect for special stays, family holidays and casual business meetings.

This past week we stayed two nights at the Hilton Garden Inn for my husband's graduation. My parents also got a room. My mom paid EXTRA for a handicap room because she is bound to a wheelchair/scooter and needs a handicap toilet with a bar as well as a walk in shower due to her disability. However, when she arrived in her room, she was given a NORMAL room...not handicap whatsoever! She had to use the restroom since she had traveled 7 hours. After she was finished, she was unable to get off the toilet because it was NOT a handicap toilet and had NO grab bars. My husband and I were not at the hotel so she had to wait 1 hour sitting on the toilet until we could get there to help her. If we weren't in the area, she would have had to call the fire dept! Embarrassing!! We told the front desk that the room is not ADA, they spent about 45 minutes trying to find her a new room. The lady was very rude. She tried to put her in ANOTHER non handicap room. I went with the maintenence man to check the room (he was the ONLY helpful person at the hotel). The lady told me that was all they had and I said, "Well, then they will have to go to a different hotel." The lady replied, "Why can't she just stay in the normal room?" I told her that she is disabled and cannot get off the toilet by herself. Umm...hello?? Were you not paying attention?? SHE'S HANDICAP!!! Then they "found" an actual ADA room, but it was blocked because the carpet was wet because they were cleaning the floors. However my dad is unable to walk on wet surfaces because he just had surgery on the bottom of his feet from a recent burn where he is in the process of getting skin grafts. His feet are wrapped in gauze and mesh and cannot get them wet. They gave him TRASH BAGS to put around his feet so they wouldn't get wet. So ridiculous!!! This hotel is a joke!!! And definitely DOES NOT follow ADA compliance!!! They also tried to overcharge my husband and I!! I booked through the app and paid in advance. They then added my husband and changed the rate to almost double!!

Old Town short walk across the street. Close to freeways, downtown, Balboa to the south and Sea World to the north. Hotel easy to get to and lots of parking. Rooms very clean, modern decor throughout hotel and spacious lobby area.

Location...good Value...good Room cleanliness .....terrible! Room reeked of BO or some other foul smell. By the time we would get back at night we were too tired to ask to change rooms, therefore made for a terrible experience.

Broken furniture, broken spa, restaurant was closed, parking was extra, I know parking is a common expense, but when the hotel is working at a low level of comfort, some accommodations could be made. We chose not to stay, and judging by the staffs reaction, that was common. The room was tiny, the furniture dated, and nowhere near Hilton expectations or expense.

My husband and I chose this hotel because we are Hilton Honors members and the proximity to Old Town was wonderful (only a block away)! However, the hotel is in dire need of updating. I could have stayed at a lower priced hotel in the area and had the same quality found here. Our room was musty. Not bad enough to complain but defintely noticable when we walked in the room each time. I wish the hotel staff has been a bit more clear that we'd get NO housekeeping without making a specific request for it. I bring my own amenities so it wasn't horrible but fresh towels (without having to ask for them) would have been nice. There was only breakfast offered in the resturaunt and that was $15. No thanks! There was a great place a few blocks away for less! Grout in the shower looked moldy in places and the room was just dingy and dated. On the positive side, we had a high floor facing NW (which by the way, don't book if you're looking for a view). It faced the freeway onramp but was really quiet! Too much money for what we got. We'll definitely stay elswhere on our next visit. That sucks because Hilton is usually so much better.
