Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
I'd heard a lot about the Nikko brand over the years, and was curious to try it out when our conference was set here. Great location near Union Square with a lot of interesting shopping and dining options around. Cafe Mason, Pinecrest Diner, all in easy walking distance. The food at the hotel was very good with very attentive staff. Buffet had Japanese dishes as to be expected from the brand in addition to the standard breakfast fare. A little pricey, but probably on par given the location and type of hotel. Got a room on an upper floor with a fantastic view of downtown. The conference rooms had amazing views of the city. Rooms were on the medium size, not huge, but not tiny either. No desk, but could still work on the table in the room. Fluffy robes, towels and slippers included. Be careful opening the mini bar, just looking at it will get you a charge on your bill. The hotel seemed to be finding it's footing in the post covid era, with limited lunch options in the hotel (room service only), but not a huge inconvenience. Some areas closed off in the lobby. Very quiet, invisible housekeeping staff, only thin I saw them once in the halls, but everything was clean and very well kept. There were signs that the hotel was dog friendly They apparently had a balcony that you could schedule a playdate with the hotel dog. Neat touch. I would have liked to have met the dog. Staff was great on departure from removing the aforementioned room charge to helping me find my Uber outside the entrance. All in all a good stay.

Location of the hotel is perfect, probably 3 minutes walk from “Powell Station”. Hotel looks fairly new. However, the room is so small that the coffee machine had to be put in the toilet.
They basically charged you for everything. We tried to check in at 12pm and was told that there is a $30 early check in fee. Not sure if this is a common practice in sfo, but I don’t understand why do you have to charge your guest for early check in when you already have vacant rooms available. There is also a fee for using their facilities (premium high speed internet, usage of facilities, 2 tiny bottle of water daily, welcome gift and a $10 dining credit per night). We stayed there for 4 nights and didn’t request for housekeeping throughout. However, they did not provide us with the 2 x tiny bottle of water daily.
They put a dog soft toy on our bed and we thought that is our welcome gift. But no, they charge $28 for the soft toy. Hence, please do not take the dog soft toy if you do not want to be charge unknowingly.
Overall stay is fine, if you are looking for a modern and new hotel, this is the right hotel for you.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review, your feedback is extremely important to us. We apologize for any confusion you encountered regarding our Daily Amenity Fee. Similar to other full-service hotels in the San Francisco, a daily Amenity Fee was applied to your Final Bill. While we do our best to ensure that our guests are informed of our Daily Amenity Fee at the time of booking. We appreciate your comments and will share them with our team to make sure we are accurately explaining the charge at check-in to avoid any further confusion. Over all, the services are average. If it is free drink service instead of $10 as described on card, I will make a time to visit bars. I recommend 500 mL water bottle instead of tinny water bottle at room.

At check-in, my welcome consisted of, first, being informed of an early check-in fee - although my arrival was not long before 3:00p.m.. Then, a concerted attempt to upsell me to a larger room at substantial extra charge. Finally, the disclosure of the "facility" fee which generously included 2 daily 8 ounce bottles of water! What astonishing value! To top it all off, consistent with the Nikko's effusive generosity, the 23rd floor lounge offers the cheapest, worst quality lounge food of any hotel in the world that I have experienced.

Dear Puligny20, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I am terribly sorry that our service was not quite up to your expectations. Similar to the other hotels in the San Francisco, a daily Amenity Fee was applied to your Final Bill. The Daily Amenity Fee offers value for our guest's enjoyment: high speed internet access, unlimited access to 10,000 square foot full-service fitness center and glass enclosed swimming pool, two bottles of water daily, $10 nightly food & beverage credit at our signature Restaurant Anzu, Kanpai Lounge and Feinstein’s showroom. In addition there are great shopping discounts, and a unique in-room welcome gift. While we do our best to ensure that our guests are informed of our Daily Amenity Fee at the time of booking, we appreciate your comments and will share with our team to confirm we are accurately explaining the charge at check-in to avoid any confusion. We strive to accommodate our valued guests to the best of our abilities, and I am very disappointed that we failed to do so on this occasion during your stay. Your feedback will be discussed within our various departments, so we can ensure to better our service. Again, I apologize for the issues you experienced during your stay and please feel free to contact us if you have additional feedback. Sincerely, Anna Marie Presutti, GM Hotel Nikko San Francisco

Well kept place. Nice ambient. Nicely organized welcoming atmosphere room. Bathrooms are nice however very low water pressure. why do you hang new towels just on top of the toilet? Just move the hanger somewhere. there is a lot of space. Easy check-in and check out. Yes, it is in core location but the price is so high. Also, they charge amenity fee which is so high and not displayed (there is fine print when you book but amount not shown).

My girlfriend and I decided to splurge with a stay at Hotel Nikko instead of BARTing back home after a comedy show. Check-in was quick. Our room only had one pair of slippers and one robe but the staff brought another set within 10 minutes of calling. We hit the pool before the show and it hit the spot with it's warm air, water and very hot hot tub. You can order food and beverages via phone. The pool itself is pretty shallow, so no diving.
The room itself was very nice, but make sure to request one with a view if that matters to you. It was very quiet compared to the older SF properties, which I prefer, so light-sleepers can get a good night sleep here.

Very nice staff, decor a bit blah. Pool isn’t the most heated of heated, but clean and seems to get most direct sun early before a neighboring building blocks it. Bring your own soap from the hotel room if you plan on showering in the pool locker rooms as the stuff in the showers there isn’t as nice. (Smelled a bit medical to me.) Japanese/American brunch buffet is nice, but skip the pastries. The neighborhood itself isn’t the greatest as it’s by the tenderloin and SF has a lot of homeless, so if you’re a woman (maybe even a man) I’d take a cab to and from the hotel at night. Down the street thought you can see where the manually turn the trolley card around, which is neat.

I rarely give 5 stars to businesses, but Nikko deserves it. We were looking for a good location in SF with an indoor pool and room service, so Nikko fit the bill and was only $250 per night over President’s weekend.
The staff was truly great for all interactions. The hotel felt very roomy, uncrowded, and safe for downtown SF, and had a great scent in the air too (spa style fragrances). The health club area was awesome, with a fun and spacious pool deck, sauna, and nice locker rooms. We got a standard room that felt plenty for a family of 4, and the beds/sheets were comfortable. Instant hot water in the bathroom and a usable table for in room dining. Room service dinner and the Anzu restaurant for breakfast were delicious and not that expensive for a hotel.
Valet parking was $65/night, which wasn’t ideal but seems standard for the area. Nikko is 2 blocks from a Bart station, so that is an option if you don’t need a car. There’s a lot of good take out eating nearby, and Westfield shopping center and union square are not far. I can’t think of any complaints about the hotel, and I wouldn’t really want to stay anywhere else for our next SF visit. Our kids thought Nikko was the best too! Thanks!

We are a family of 4 and booked 2 rooms for a week. First, a big shout out to the reservations managers, Luis and Matt, who were both terrific (professional, thorough, and pleasant) in assisting me w the booking.
Upon arrival, Karim checked us in. He was patient and great. We got upgraded which we truly appreciate!
We are in the Imperial double Queen rooms. The rooms are quite spacious— especially the bathroom! Good lighting, which is a rarity amongst hotels. We love the slippers and robes. The beds and linens were sumptuous. And super clean!
So at the Imperial room level the lounge benefit is included. Highlights are the breakfast (although advertised as continental, eggs and some breakfast meat were there) and wine & cheese in the evening.
And this becomes the weakest link and the reason the hotel is not getting 5 stars. At 7:04 I walked into the lounge, as the wine and cheese hour ended at 7 pm, literally nothing was left. The server did ask if I wanted something to drink. I didn’t want alcohol… but basically nothing was left in the tiny frig. Then at 9:30 my kids wanted to drink and so they stopped in— only 2 cans of soda were left.
I’ve been to several hotel lounges at high-end chains— throughout the day drinks and whatever snacks are supposed to be provided. Not just during certain hours. And surely cannot let a tiny frig become empty by 7 ish!
FYI we also bought breakfast package at the regular buffet as we didn’t know if we’d get an upgrade — at about a half hour before closing they stopped replenishing too. Also as this is a Japanese hotel I thought some Japanese or Asian dishes would be served— but no.
One other issue was that the bell stand was simply overwhelmed. We needed a taxi and it was bad timing on our part as we could tell the bell hops were running around helping multiple customers, stretched thin. The hotel needs to beef up this area as it is an important service to clients.
I think if the F and B can be improved, Nikko would be a true gem. Certainly has the potential between its tasteful rooms, wonderful reservation, housekeeping and front desk teams, top location etc.
And I do have to mention that the people at buffet breakfast were very nice! So I am sure the lounge issue can be addressed all in good time :)
We are staying at the hotel still and at halfway through our week…
Hope this review helps!

Convenient well run downtown San Francisco hotel. Due to it’s convenient location to our exit from the Bay Bridge, in recent years we have stayed at either the Nikko or the Parc 55 across the street. Both are pleasant, well run hotels, with a good facilities.

I'm not sure, but I think it's 6 feet.
You’d need to contact the hotel directly.
The sheer number of homeless people in San Francisco is indeed depressing. Being aware of the situation and planning ahead of where you will meet homeless and how you will interact with them is smart. Unlike in many other cities in the US in San Francisco you will meet homeless people in almost any neighborhood. And though I experienced most of the poor souls as not being aggressive, you never know what has gotten into somebody who just got his meth kick. The area of Hotel Nikko (we also stayed at the Phoenix for a few nights) feels rather safe. The big question is whether you would like to walk SF at all or just take the car (or Uber) to any given destination. If you decide to walk, no hotel area in SF will feel much safer than Nikko's. If you decide to drive, Nikko provides a safe environment to get in and out of your car.
