I stayed the weekend before coronavirus shut down travel. Have stayed here number of times before. The most recent renovations have greatly improved hotel. Love the tall ceilings and early 1900’s feel combined with new and modern furniture and fixtures in rooms. The buffet breakfast in the elegant dining area is a special treat. Gym is fully equipped and not busy so everything is available. The location next to Montgomery St station is accessible to everything either via transit or walking. I have stayed many times at all the top SF hotels: Ritz, Four Seasons, St Regis, W and this is my favorite. I am a Marriott Ambassador Elite customer and felt that hotel made effort to recognize my status.

Spent a recent weekend at the Palace Hotel to celebrate an anniversary. We're glad we picked this hotel out of the many options available in SF. The hotel is gorgeous from all points of view, from the main common spaces to the hallways. Really loved that they lean into the history of the property with all the exhibits in the main hall.

The rooms themselves are upscale and understated with high ceilings and very comfortable beds/linens. While the bathrooms are well done, they're on the smaller side compared to other hotels of this caliber.

The location is also central to downtown SF. If you're visiting from out of town and looking to sightsee, you can get to many places easily on foot. The MUNI/Bart station is also literally on the same block so public transport is a breeze.

However, the one thing that really impressed us was the attentiveness and warmth of those that we encountered at the hotel. The service matched the setting. While many hotels have been scaling back on amenities like housekeeping, etc, that was not the case at this property. Housekeeping was offered daily and the room service breakfast experience was seamless from order to delivery. The valet guys were also all fantastic and friendly.

I would be remiss to not highlight the server who delivered breakfast, Min. He noticed that we had rose petals in the room and inquired if we were celebrating an occasion. Upon finding out that it was our anniversary he noted that the hotel usually sends an amenity up. We told him that we had made the note, but it didn't translate -- not a biggie. He immediately offered to help us celebrate by offering us mimosas to go with breakfast. It was an extremely kind gesture and showed the attention to detail and service during a time when resources across the industry are stretched thin.

It's a lovely home base if you're in San Francisco and looking for some old world charm with modern day service. We'd happily stay at this property again.

Stayed here several times, just did 10 days in a row, and I am impressed with how consistent my customer experience has been every time.
Excellent location, right by the BART Montgomery Street station. Yes there are a lot of vagrants and homeless individuals out and about but this is true of any area of San Francisco, sadly.
Check in very efficient, had to use the app to extend my stay, they immediately responded, also kudos to the breakfast staff, professional yet friendly.
Note on breakfast for Marriott elite members: they provide you with a US$ 40 credit for breakfast, which I found very generous and allowed me to order whatever I pleased.
Room was super clean, every time, very quiet, I recommend getting one on the inner side of the building (I was in 853 last), very impressed with how everything seemed new and worked perfectly, hot water, internet, tv, etc. Most impressed with housekeeping, they were extremely efficient and timely.
All in all very solid business hotel. I have stayed repeatedly at the Park 55 Property (closed for refurbishing at the moment) and I am going to stay here from now on.

Recently spent a weekend at the Palace Hotel for an anniversary celebration, and immediately upon arrival to the hotel, it was a WOW factor, so beautiful! We were immediately greeted by the most attentive and friendly bellmen/Valet/Doorman, whose service was outstanding from Jorge/Marlon/Norm and any others I may have missed, The foyer to the hotel was of such elegance, bright and beautiful. Upon entry to our corner room suite, it was gorgeous, upscale and so comfortable and beautiful, not to mention the views. I appreciated the hotel to provide all pre-pandemic services with daily housekeeping. There was absolutely excellent attention to detail provided every single time we walked into the building, and noticed wonderful fragrances. The concierge (Malia) was fantastic, friendly and so helpful! We had breakfast at the Garden Court and again, greeted with amazing staff who were attentive and so friendly (server Elena) and even the manager, Antonio made us feel so welcome! The chef even prepared a special breakfast treat for us! When we called up for any room services, water, coffee, etc., we were always greeted by a friendly and caring voice over the phone (Emma). I appreciated all of the hotel history and exhibits. The hotel is in a great central location downtown where you can get around easily on foot. The attentiveness, warmth and friendliness of the hotel was beyond meaure! The Hotel Staff went above and beyond, and DEFINITELY is a must-stay Hotel when you visit SF, and we most definetely will stay again! Thank you Palace Hotel for making our stay amazing and exceptional!

First, this is a beautiful hotel. I had a corner suite on the 4th floor. There were several fails, starting from the first day. The bathroom had several long hairs on the floor, which I asked housekeeping to clean up, which they did. The next morning, I saw more long hairs in the shower, which I simply washed down the drain. In 5 days, the minibar was refreshed exactly once. Housekeeping also left an icebucket of melted ice one day, rather than emptying it. The phones' speed dial for service did not work, leading me to call the hotel as an outside number to be transferred to someone who could help. The living room furniture was uncomfortable and awkwardly arranged. I rearranged the furniture for my stay to make the room functional. No one offered help with my luggage upon arrival, nor offered to show me to my room and show me the amenities. The internet can be intermittant at times, shocking, given that you're in SF. I'd say it's a 4 or maybe a 4-1/2 star, not a 5 star hotel.

My stay at this hotel was refreshing. It is very nice to see a hotel provide all pre-pandemic services again including daily housekeeping. Absolutely excellent attention to detail was provided every single time I walked into the building. The 60-foot pool was excellent for a swim.

The only annoyance was that I was assigned a room in a wing which had VIP guests. As a result there was frequent security guard activity outside my door, including a guard who was always on duty within 30 feet of my room door.

Beautiful hotel overall though. Nice to see full service back.

Emailed the hotel prior to check to inform them of my special requests, didn’t get a reply. Arrived at the hotel at 3:20, was told that room would be ready at 4 even though I requested early check in through the app and through email days ahead. We stayed around, checked in with staff again at 4, was told room was still not ready, waited another hour before we got into the room. Standard check in time was 4.

Appreciated the fact that the hotel upgraded our room to a deluxe suite because of the special occasion and my platinum status. The suite was on a high floor, spacious, and had nice views, however, the bathroom was tiny, without a bathtub, and could barely fit 2 people. Service is extremely slow at this hotel, it was astonishing. There was no birthday card or special amenity in the room, I had to ask about it twice for it to be sent up. Requested amenities from housekeeping and they took more than half an hour to arrive. Asked for four bottles of water and two were sent up. There was no turn down service, even for suite categories.

Breakfast included with platinum was continental only, but you could upgrade to the full buffet with an additional fee. After checking out, I realized that there was a points error and had to call Marriott to have them fix it. Chose the palace hotel because I love the Luxury Collection brand, however this property is a complete letdown.

This is probably one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen. I came here once before for business and decided to stay here for leisure while visiting last Christmas. The grand court is magnificent and impressive. The décor reminds me of The Plaza in New York, but in my opinion even more beautiful! We also had breakfast here during our last day and it was very delicious. Very worth it.

Every other aspect of the hotel is beautiful as well. The hallways leading to the rooms are one of the most spacious I have ever seen, especially for a hotel in a large city. They have a luxurious fitness center, indoor pool and Jacuzzi as well. I made very good use of these during my stay.

The only issue we had with this hotel was regarding service. I booked this hotel through Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts and hoped to use our dining credit towards a nice dinner on Christmas evening. On Christmas morning, we spoke with concierge about options for dining and she recommended the hotel restaurant that evening. After a long day of site seeing, we arrived (all dressed up and everything!) to discover it was closed. The only option they had was bar seating and said it would be over an hour wait. We asked the concierge (a man this time) for alternatives and he was incredibly dismissive, condescending and rude. I was so taken aback by it that I went to the check in desk and asked for the manager. After waiting for about an hour (not an exaggeration), I finally got ahold of the manager who was shocked and had not been informed that the hotel’s restaurant was closed. At first he seemed disinclined to assist us but after some insisting offered to refund our dining credit, allowing us to eat elsewhere. All in all I think it was quite a poor customer service experience from start to finish and not a great way to spend Christmas evening. Encounters like this have never happened during my Hyatt or Hilton stays (or have swiftly been resolved!) but this is the second experience of this caliber that has occurred at a hotel under the Marriott umbrella in the last few years. I think Marriott needs to invest more in training for customer service. For a luxury hotel, this issue shouldn't have escalated this much.

Overall still a very nice stay and I would consider The Palace again during future visits to San Francisco.

We were in San Francisco for a wedding party, and decided to stay in the Palace for the night. I don't normally book in a large hotel for personal travel, but I'm glad I did this time.

Not sure if it's because I'm a Marriott Gold member, but we got upgraded to a deluxe room that was immaculate. Bathroom was set up for very low water consumption, but the shower still had lots of pressure and toilet worked well. Decor was contemporary, not at all dated like I might have expected for a historic hotel.

The people at the hotel were exceptionally friendly, including the desk staff, conceirge, and employees working all over the hotel. For instance, my wife and I were taking a selfie at the gorgeous Garden Court, and an employee spontaneously dropped what he was working on and asked if we wanted him to take our picture. When we said yes, he took our jackets and bag so we didn't have to hold anything, and took 3 pictures!

The indoor pool is amazing. It's a perfect temperature and set up for both lap swimming and recreation, with floor to ceiling windows giving you a great view of the city and lots of natural light. They had a big screen at the end of the pool, where they apparently show movies on Saturday nights (guests can get an inner tube and watch from the pool). On our second visit to the pool, there was a very kind attendant who was talking to one of the families and bringing out pool toys for them, and she brought out bottled water and fudgesicles for us!

I know a lot of people are having a tough time these days, so I especially appreciated being at a place where the employees truly seem to love their jobs and care about the guests. It speaks well to the management that they've been able to retain such great staff.

Another thing I liked--a large number of San Francisco boutique hotels tack on "amenity fees" (despite not offering any unusual amenities), "destination fees", etc. that can easily add another $65/night to your bill. The Palace wasn't cheap but we paid exactly the advertised rate, with no surprise charges.

A few tips: (1) We did not make it to the brunch because we overslept, but the restaurant is gorgeous. It is very pricey, but would be a great place to have a special occasion. Apparently, it's popular and you need a reservation. (2) Parking is expensive as you'd expect in a luxury hotel. We self-parked at a garage one block away for half the price. (3) The neighborhood is loud, and despite the thick walls and doors, you can hear some of the noise from the street and people talking in the halls. It wasn't a big issue for us, and tbh this is a problem all over SF, but you might want to bring earplugs.

During our 6 day visit, Every single staff member whom we encountered was exceptionally polite, friendly, and helpful. Scott, the wonderful gentleman who checked us in, soars even above them all. Unlike the other hotels we have visited on this trip that are still using the Covid excuse to skip all housekeeping services and other amenities, The Palace continues to provide all of the excellent services and amenities one would expect from such a fine establishment. When traveling to San Francisco in the past on business, I stayed in considerably more expensive hotels which were not as pleasing as The Palace. I wish to extend a warm thank you to all the staff and management for helping us to create a marvelous and memorable experience.
