Older hotel, no USB plugins, no microwave, pay extra for beach chairs and umbrella (picture of pool on website is NOT accurate) diners overlook the pool so they can watch you swim or sunbathe, small workout room. $30.00 a day to park your car. The beach was nice and the cleaning staff was wonderful. The room was clean and great shower pressure. I am trying to find more positive attributes…….
This was my very first time staying at the Royal Lahaina Resort on Maui and by far the most memorable vacation that I will never forget! I was immediately welcomed when I arrived in their beautiful lobby by their friendly staff who made me feel at home. The resort is just steps away from the beach where you can watch humpback whales and go for a swim. The resort offers activities the traditional Hiu Wai which is a Hawaiian Cleansing Ceremony at sunrise. This is a must-do! My room was very clean and the balcony views of the ocean were breathtaking. The thing that I most appreciated about this resort was that it made us feel like family! Every employee on property greeted us with a smile and warm hello or farewell. I highly recommend this amazing property. Will definitely be back.…
While there’s nothing particularly wrong with this place, it really failed to wow us either. First, you pay a daily parking fee PLUS a resort fee. It’s all just fees to disguise the cost. I wouldn’t mind the parking fee but when there’s a luau going on it’s impossible to find a spot. They should have exclusive parking for guests at that rate or a paid section so those who don’t mind a good hike to their car can do that. We checked in and asked about an upgrade. In all our travels and stays if there’s an upgraded room available it’s given. This hotel however offered us the upgrade by asking us to pay the difference. The room was vacant, you have the choice of wowing a guest who could then share their experience and draw in more guests. Instead, make a quick buck. Finally we get our room. It was an oceanfront and very nice. One thing we noted however is that there are no mirrors accessible for shaving or doing makeup. The vanity sink is separate from the bathroom and faces the open space. If you need to shave or put on makeup you’re awkwardly facing to the side or standing at a full length mirror. This is an easy fix they could address. Also, the door to the adjoining room is a hollow door. We could hear everything clear as day going on next door. Others mentioned it in reviews and I can confirm it was a nuisance! The staff were very friendly. The food and drinks were fine. Honestly nothing worth writing about. This place is all about location and for that it’s worth while. When checkout time came we asked for a late checkout. So instead of 11 we got to stay all the way until noon. Not only was that the only time extension allowed, but the hotel staff were literally standing by our door at about 11:45 until we left. It was uncomfortable and tacky. Oh, there is ZERO shade at the pools. They could put up sun sails or something but instead you’re offered umbrellas, beach cabanas and private cabanas all for pay. For what guests pay here they could and should make some of the minor upgrades I suggest. Still it wasn’t a bad experience, just set your expectations low and it’s a fine enough place to crash in Maui.…
Very beautiful. The location is great. It’s not a big property so not that crowded. I feel real resort vibe. If you prefer peaceful vibe, this is the best for you. The beach right in front of the resort is so beautiful. Free shuttle is available to whalers village. Check in process was smooth, front desk Cody was so friendly and made us feel so welcomed. Definitely will stay here again!
My daughter and I visited Maui as part of a island trip and booked a cottage at this place. I had always heard this is the hotel to book. Nope. We were in a cottage straight out of the ‘70s. We were afraid to step down into the shower! I went to speak to the desk clerk who shrugged his shoulders and told me I could check back to see if anything came available the next day. Told me that’s the best they can do. Unbelievable. I even contacted the person in California who had confirmed my reservation in April. She said she was sorry I didn’t like it. Me, too. I gave it two stars because the valet and other staff were very helpful and friendly. Otherwise, I would give it a big zero.
Can't say enough about the staff. So warm & welcoming. They went out of their way to make our stay amazing. I highly recommend the Royal Lahaina to every one. Beautiful setting right on the beach. Convenient location to town. Very clean.
We just got back from Maui and I wanted to leave an honest review. Our family was in 6 rooms all in the cottages. Some were renovated and some were not as the resort is in the process of updating. The renovated rooms are really nice. New counters and cabinets and either new soft carpet or plank flooring. We stayed in an older one that they haven’t gotten to yet and it was still clean and it was very spacious. Just had more outdated tile and counter tops but the carpet was still really nice. We had a kitchen and 2 bathrooms love seat and larger kitchen table and although the update will be really nice we enjoyed the room. There was a night where we turned the light on and one of the circuits flipped our electric off and maintenance was there within 30 minutes to take care of it. The cottages are much more like a house and so we did find a bug at night and they came and sprayed for us the next day and are on top of it. I have travelled to a lot of tropical countries and so for me it wasn’t uncommon to see one here. But for some that may be a deal breaker. The beach and gardens are beautiful. It is much less crowded on this beach than if you walk down the beach walk to other hotels. The water is so clear! We were surprised there are not chairs on the beach but after staying here realized it could be difficult to keep them out of the ocean which is probably why they keep them on the lawn by the pool over looking the beach. The shaded chairs with umbrellas and cabanas you have to pay extra for. But they do have regular loungers that are free. The pools are just normal pools but really enjoyable and my kids enjoyed having another option to swim out of the ocean. The pool side bar is great and they have fun food options like flatbread pizza and fish tacos and the staff is so friendly. We really enjoyed the food at the restaurant. I do hope they bring the hot tubs back…it would add a lot…especially for those of us who got sore hiking! Breakfast buffet is delicious and for dinner the steak bruschetta and salads….I wish I could find a recipe for!! The restaurant is just beautiful and so relaxing to eat at. Partially open air and overlooking the beach. Just gorgeous. Shuffleboard and corn hole were great optional activities. Also the shuttle can take you many places… to the shopping areas and food areas. The cafe gives picnic lunches you can take on day trips and the pastries and coffee and ice cream there are delicious and great options if you want a snack or simple lunch. If you are looking for more of a 4 star experience I would see if you can get a renovated room and see if you can get on the side of the hotel without the luau and if in the cottages…away from the wedding area. We overlooked the golf coarse which was beautiful. I noticed that the renovated cottages had changed out the shuttered windows which I think is good because you can hear a lot with the shuttered windows from outside. But the new windows should help the noise situation. Overall a great experience for our family.…
Stayed for 10 nights at the end of May 2022. Booked 3 nights in the tower with an ocean view and 7 nights in one of the oceanfront cottages. The first 3 nights were good, the view was fantastic. The room itself was a bit small for a family of 4 though, there was no separation from the main room into the bathroom so no real privacy which makes it tough when you want the kids to sleep in. The beds were comfortable enough but small. After the first 3 nights we were ready to move into the cottage. We booked a deluxe oceanfront studio with is over 700 square feet and has a kitchen. Prior to arrival I had emailed the front desk a few times to confirm that we were ground floor oceanfront with a kitchen, never did they tell me that wasn't to be the case. The issue is that all of the ground floor rooms are smaller (around 375 square feet I think) and they do NOT have a kitchen. The upstairs room that they wanted to put us ion only has a small deck at the front of it which does not face the ocean. To see the ocean at all you need to look out the windows but you cant sit outside with the view which we did not want at all. After talking with the front desk we arranged to move to the smaller ground floor unit with the oceanfront patio. This is a smaller room with no kitchen so our plans to buy food to cook were out the door, we had to eat out for every meal as the ground floor unit has only a small beer fridge. We definitely got the sense that they mislead us and just want to get you there and they they deal with the issues, felt very sneaky. We got a slight discount taking the new room but nowhere near the extra we had to spend eating out. All that aside once we were settled in the ground floor room we loved it. The patio has a beautiful Ocean view and we could go from our private patio and be in the ocean in less than 30 seconds. My 12 year old actually timed it once and got there in 12 seconds running! The room is not big but the layout is better than the hotel tower as the bathroom is bigger and more private for changing without disturbing those who are sleeping. 2 double beds which is tight for a family of 4 but we made it work. The grounds are great, the restaurant is great, the drinks are great but expensive at $15 a drink. We used the pools a bit, they are fine but really nothing special. The ocean is the main draw here. It looks to be the best stretch of beach in the area, its truly awesome and the nightly sunsets cant be beat. The waves were enough where the kids could have some fun getting knocked around but nothing too crazy for the most part. Everything extra is a charge here, You want an umbrella on the beach for the day? $30...you want a 2 seater with a cover for the day? $65...etc...nothing is free here really but we knew Maui was expensive! A nice 15 minute walk one way down to Black Rock/Whalers Village area and about 20 minutes the other way to a nice stretch of hotels with bars, restaurants etc...we got around by Uber if we wanted to go farther out and it was never a problem. All in all an awesome stay but be aware of what room you are getting. I have also emailed the hotel for a detailed bill a few days ago but haven't heard back yet. Royal Lahaina can you please send me that? thanks…
Absolutely will NOT stay here again!! Planned a romantic honeymoon and paid for an upgraded oceanside cottage (not cheap) The night of my wife's birthday the hotel staged a wedding reception right outside our door. The music was extremely loud and blared right outside our window for hours. The PA loudspeakers were no more than 10 feet outside our room. So much for a romantic evening with my wife listening to the ocean waves. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!!! Even with the windows shut and the TV volume up all the way, the music drown us out. Extremely disappointed! I've stayed here twice before, which is why I came back. NEVER AGAIN!! Management needs to rethink their policies!
Booked a cottage per website pictures. Needless to say, the cottage was filthy and unsafe as picture will show. Management would not help, they offered to shampoo the carpet! (Really), no compensation such as free parking or eliminate resort fee or luau tickets or even a dinner at their restaurant. I will never visit this place again!
