4.5 STARS!? I last stayed here 11 years ago when it was called the Aston Hotel, was $80/night, and in desperate need of updating! Despite other Yelpers' more recent complaints, I think Hilton has done good job overall updating the property. We got a Costco deal for $3700 with round trip airfare, convertible car rental, and this hotel for 7 nights, with a $40/day food credit...I guestimate about $300/night? PROS: -Great customer service from all the staff -Clean, modern, comfortable rooms...ground floor rooms have little non private patios which are great for drying swimwear. -Microwave, Fridge, Coffee Maker, and big LCD TV -Walking distance to Lydgate beach park...nice snorkeling! Folks whom complain that its too far are either lost, or in poor physical shape. -Free Coffee in the lobby in the mornings, free fruit juice in the afternoons. -Free water bottles. Water filtration machines. -Pools and a jacuzzi that could be hotter and use more functional jets. -Central location on Kauai, great if you're visiting both the north and south. CONS: -Air Conditioning unit was rather loud. -$25/day for self-parking...it was free 11 years ago. -Besides Lydgate, nothing else in walking distance. -Breakfast entrees are expensive! Luckily we had that $40/day food credit, and outside restaurants actually aren't much cheaper. -Mamanhune's Bar closes rather early at 10am. Expensive drinks, but standard for Hawaii, and you can always BYOB. Despite the Cons and high costs, I'd likely stay here again on my next Kauai visit, not sure if that will be another 11 years or not. The competition is even more expensive and probably have similar Cons.

Hotel's Favourite
Loved it! Best hotel experience ever on Earth! Fantastic! Better than the Westin! Better than luxury condos! I loved the experience of being at Kauai's Hilton Garden Inn. It was my first time on the island of Kauai, and I really wanted a real experience but also luxury. Included in my hotel stay were 1) awesome ukulele lessons by Kalani Joe that had me playing real songs in minutes, 2) awesome hula dancing lessons (that taught me a whole, real hula dance with good technique and with a gorgeous view of the ocean by Kiana, and 3) awesome ti leaf and orchid lei making classes that enabled me to make a complete and beautiful Hawaiian flower necklace from local raw materials (leaves and flowers) by Kiana. We also saw an exciting fire dancing show at the hotel; in this show were the most dangerous, heart-stopping stunts I have ever seen. The show also included hula dancing and beautiful live music. The hotel restaurant/bar, Mamahune's, has the best French fries I have ever tasted and (completely delicious and vegetarian) taro burger with pineapple jam that I liked so much, I would travel to Kauai just to eat the taro burger with pineapple jam. Also at the hotel, the concierge, Courtney, is fantastic and gave us great, real advice that led us to great experiences; she surfs and snorkels and gives good advice. Additionally, the hotel is located right at a state park with the safest (and good) snorkeling right at the beach in front of the hotel, in two ponds protected by rocks. In the larger of the two small protected ponds, I saw bluefin trevally, saddle wrasses, tangs, sergeant major fish, and many more kinds of colorful fish of relatively large size. The hotel offers all good coffee in the morning and chilled, tasty POG (punch) in the afternoon, and the front desk staff led by Amy are great! The vibe of the rooms is relaxing and feels good. Furthermore, the swimming pool is the exact ideal temperature for swimming and just enjoying the pool in daytime or at night and is surrounded by beautiful flowering plants and a spectacular sunset view. Another great thing about this hotel is the interior design: it feels like a movie or TV set for Charlie's Angels. Also, of note, the hotel next to a very important historical and spiritual site for Hawaiians. If you are interested in history, culture, religion, spiritualism, authentic experiences, this site is a place to respectfully visit. Loved this hotel! I want to book another vacation there asap. Great rooms, service, and location! Hotel highlights: Luxury · Great view · Romantic · Quiet · Kid-friendly · Great value Rooms: large rooms, great views, comfy bed, good shower tub, includes refrigerators, cabinets, microwave Nearby activities: protected snorkel/swim area, beach, important historical/spiritual site Safety: very safe Walkability: great. Mamahune's restaurant and bar on the property, very short walk to swimming/snorkeling protected beach area, very short walk to significant historical site Food & drinks: excellent meals and drinks at Mamahune's Cafe and great breakfast at the hotel breakfast restaurant Noteworthy details: Fantastic included with hotel: ukulele lessons, hula lessons, lei making lessons, great coffee, great concierge's guidance, great temperature swimming pool, hot jacuzzi, beautiful surroundings, perfect location, very close to safe swim/snorkel protected area at the beach Excellent breakfast in the hotel breakfast (paid separately).

Cockroach infestation. My +1 and I chose this place based on convenience: it was near the airport, close to some sightseeing, and pretty central as far as the island goes so that we could drive north or south. In that aspect it was great. If you don't mind cockroaches. The views are beautiful. There is a short walk to the beach, where there are a couple of shallow pools (at Lydgate Park) blocked from the rest of the ocean, which was pretty fierce this time of year. There were schools of fish and plenty of room to swim. From the exterior, the hotel is open with fresh air throughout and waterfalls and koi fish, as you would find in Hawaiian hotels. Parking can be a challenge. If you aren't able to snag one of the few spots at the front, be prepared to park on the backside of the hotel, to the right as you pull in. We tried their restaurant for breakfast, both ordering Loco Moco. It exceeded our expectations. The gravy was delicious, the crunchy onion on top added flavor and texture, and the egg and hamburger patty were cooked to perfection. We washed it down with some tasty pineapple, orange and guava (POG) juice. I reserved an Oceanview King Suite. And unfortunately, this is where they really feel short. The room was not adequately cleaned, with layers of dust covering the air vents, mold in the cracks of the tub, and bubbling drywall. And ironically enough, it was after a cleaning that we discovered a cockroach infestation in the bathroom. We walked in late in the evening (after a busy day hiking and sightseeing), flicked on the lights, and saw 3 full-sized German cockroaches (there brown ones that infiltrate interior spaces) scurry away. I managed to kill two of them, but one escaped under a crack in the baseboards. Hilton, this is where you really feel short. I called the front desk, but they didn't have another equivalent room available but promised to send a housecleaner to spray. He came with a vacuum (for what?) and said he couldn't spray with us in there, but he would take a picture to show management and then spray on the morning while we were gone for the day. Personally, I would have rather he just sprayed around the baseboards for the night, but he said he couldn't. So we got our stuff packed up and closed our luggage and put it all as high as we could, and sealed the bathroom door with towels so hopefully they would stay in there. When we woke up after the worst night of sleep ever, I found a smaller cockroach, dead, on the sink, and another roaches' wing nearby. I had enough. I went down to the front desk and they reassured us that they would spray, and they would have us in another room later that day after the previous guests checked out. Fantastic. Except that when we stopped by the room midday, a housekeeper started asking us if we were checking out of changing rooms because she was told not clean. Weird. So we go out and have a nice dinner, and we get a call from the hotel complaining that our stuff is still in the room. Of course it is. The other room wasn't available and we weren't going to waste a day on Kaua'i waiting for the hotel to figure things out. We told them we would be there shortly and we finally got moved, shaking out literally everything we owned before packing it all up again and going to another wing. This room was actually clean. After all that, I asked to be comped a room for the night, but the best they would do was remove a lesser charge. After a message to corporate, letting them know the conditions of their property and miscommunication, I received a few Honors Member points, but now I'm wondering if I'm going to be using them. When I got home, everything was shaken out again and everything went straight to the washer to make sure our home wouldn't be infested with uninvited visitors. I have no aloha for disease-carrying pests. Overall, I have zero tolerance for cockroaches and expected much more from a Hilton. I do not recommend this place.

Leave over an hour in your schedule for checkout. Also check bill as they overcharged by $2,000. Also note that there are additional daily charges for parking and resort fees. Housekeeping erratic — you’ll need to haul your own trash, and go to desk to get coffee, cups, towel supplies during the week. Activity schedule is different than listed on check in materials and also different that posted at reception desk. Dates and times of activities vary.

Me and my wife had a great time out last night with friends. Danced the night away . Great music and atmosphere. Food was great and service was 5 star. Can’t wait for the next time. Will be spending all our staycations there from now on. If you haven’t been make sure to put it on the list. Affordable and perfectly located right smack dab to everywhere on the island definitely our favorite spot.

The ballroom is a very spacious with an open air feeling, with large sliding doors that open up onto an outside deck area. The breeze was amazing!! The banquet staff had the room beautifully set up with black linen and gold linen napkins. Thank you to Jenn the F & B director for putting everything together to make our event a success. The banquet staff were amazing and attentive. When we needed something we didn't to go looking for someone they were right there. They kept the all of the food stations filled at all times. Chef Raff was also present and attentive as well. The food was so delicious!! We did a heavy pupu menu, loved the deep fried mini manapua, vegetable rolls were yummy. All of the food selections tasted so good!!! Staff member I believe his name was Jason, he was on it all night!! Whatever we needed he was our guy, from stocking the beverage station, to setting the movie system in the childcare center, and clearing the tables. Everything about the night was just simply amazing. Thank you Jenn, Chef Raff, Jason and the rest of the amazing staff of the Hilton Garden Inn Kauai!!!

This hotel is in need of renovation. The rooms are musty , carpet worn, we had a roach in our room. The elevator looks unsafe and not maintained. The staff is hit and miss. Some are very friendly addressing you by name. Others especially front desk seems annoyed by your presence and not happy to assist at all. The pool areas are a complete joke. Not at all as pictured online. 25 dollar parking per day is crazy ! Why ? The lanai in our room was next to service area. Who wants that on vacation? We couldn’t sit outside anyways because the chairs were broken, see the photo below and this sums up this hotel’s pride. Unfortunately this hotel is a waste of a prime location. Will not be coming back.

This hotel is in a great location. It's right next to a beautiful beach park that has nice places to swim in reef-protected beach pools and a beautiful walking path. The views from the hotel, both in the restaurant and on the lawn sitting in the adirondack chairs, is gorgeous. The day we arrived, the wind was very high, so the swaying palms and mist in the air created a very beautiful view. I really enjoyed the flock of red crested cardinals that wandered around the lawn one day. They were amazing. There are also a number of beautiful feral cats that are in the park. Don't worry; if you don't seek them out, you won't even see them. The staff are very good. Everyone is friendly and polite. We thought we were going to have our vacation ruined when we showed up after traveling from the east coast of the US, and Fox News was on the lobby TV (HATE TV). I asked if they could put it on absolutely anything other than that, and they let me change it. I put it on National Geographic, thinking that was appropriate for Hawaii. Housekeeping was good, and seemed to get things cleaned early in the day. We had an ocean view junior suite, which was a nice corner room with windows on two sides. The view was nice, but unfortunately there was no balcony. I knew that in advance, but I just wish they had them. We sat out on the lawn to have our wine and cheese for dinner one night instead. As diamond members, we each got $10/day for food/beverage. We spent it (plus some) each morning for breakfast. Breakfast was pretty good but expensive. I know it's Hawaii, but not including coffee ($5) or toast with breakfast was kind of bad. I realized the 2nd day that there was coffee in the lobby. Also, the potatoes they served with breakfast seemed like just boiled potatoes with no seasoning, butter or anything. The omelet I had was very good, though, and the bacon they served was nice and crunchy. They mention having free bicycle rentals, but the concierge told us you have to drive down the street to get them, so we didn't do it--just wanted to go down the park path for a bit. They also have free coolers and beach mats, but we didn't try to get them. Not sure if they are on property or same as the bicycles. They have an ice machine on the first floor and a nice bottle filler too, and that was very appreciated. The website says there's a charge for parking, but we were not charged.

We really enjoyed the spaciousness of the cottage. It had a seperate living room, bedroom, huge bathroom and a kitchenette with a sink, mini fridge, microwave and table. Which was enough for us to supplement our meals with some groceries. The stock photos show dishes but we didn't have any so we had to purchase some paper plates, silverware, cups, etc. We really enjoyed the outdoor space surrounding the cottages. Private, spacious patios. And a parking space directly in front of your cottage. We had both units, we were on one side, my mother-in-law was on the other side. She loved sitting outside enjoying the weather and the green space surrounding her unit. The main hotel rooms don't have balconies. If you're on the ground floor, some have sliders with pea gravel patios, which are incredibly close to your neighbors and usually face the pool so there is no privacy at all. And the oceanfront ground floor rooms don't even have that, they only have windows. The lobby was gorgeous. But some exterior areas needed some tlc. Parts of our cottage seemed recently updated. We had a couple of issues when we checked in. Nothing major. But maintenence was on top of it. Came quickly, with a smile on their face, and fixed the issues. I was impressed with how they handed it. The $25 resort fee is included in the price of the room. Resort fee includes fun activities like a lei making class, hula lessons, ukulele lessons and a two hour bike rental. Unfortunately the bikes are not on site and you need to go to Kapaa to use them. They really need bikes on site because there's a great bike trail at the nearby beach. I loved the lei making class, didn't have time to do the others. There was an additional $25/day parking fee. We had breakfast twice at The Garden Grille. Great food, big portions. They no longer have a breakfast buffet, you order off a menu. Had dinner at the tiki bar. Also, great food, big portions. What this hotel lacks is a fine dining option for dinner. Mamahune's is the only option for dinner. Sitting on high bar chairs or adirondack chairs for dining was a bit too casual for me. I don't know why they don't serve dinner at The Garden Grille. Seems a waste to only use that space for breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed the luau/fire show. Very well done. Excellent performers. All the food was fantastic. Due to weather it was indoors, but they had a beautiful Polynesian designed ballroom. And when we were done, it was just a few steps back to the cottage. This hotel has a short walking path to Lydgate Beach, so the location is awesome. Pools are a bit small but with a great beach nearby, who needs a pool. We found everyone to be friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again - in a cottage.
