You can hear the Secret Falls from our deck, solar heated salt water pool and Jacuzzi. Quiet, conveniently centrally located, 10 min from the airport, 5 min from the beach, shopping and the best restaurants. We have hiking trails within walking distance, outstanding views, with large rooms, private baths & tropical gardens. Seasonal fruit trees are available to pick from on property. I'm writing this so I can save you the time, just stay and book somewhere else. Where to begin.. from the start of trying to book our stay, the communication was seriously lacking, and you could tell the main motivation here is $$$, not the well being of their customers. After awaiting a response from my initial inquiries, the first request from Darcy was to Venmo her $200. I felt uncomfortable, as maybe it could be a scam.. I don't know her, this isn't a business account I'm Venmoing, this is a single person. There's no receipt, no email confirmation, nothing, just please Venmo me for your stay. I get the need to put down a deposit, but a legit business can take your credit card, or maybe have a Zelle account set up for their business, not a personal Venmo account. Plus, would be nice to have an actual confirmation or receipt of the booking. But there was none of that. Okay, so we get to the retreat to first pick up our rental car from them, looks a little shady.. the place is run down, there is "stuff" everywhere, dogs everywhere, chickens in cages, not to mention a litter of pitbull puppies.. but the view, the view truly is something else, so that is what made us think "okay, we'll try to give this place a go." Fast forward 3 days, and it's time for our stay at secret falls (they didn't have any openings for our first 3 days of vacay, so we stayed elsewhere). the whole day Darcy kept texting us, don't forget your payment is due in full, in CASH. no where beforehand did she mention that we would be paying for the room in cash, we never agreed to that, she just assumed that we would pay in cash and then demanded it. plus, being so adamant about paying in cash is just weird! again, no receipts, no confirmations, nothing. so still, we arrive, and we're excited about the view at least, and the nearby waterfall. we get there, we go down to the waterfall asap, because it's just not comfortable "chilling" at the property or in the room, with the whole family around (4 kids), with the rental car business taking place in our area, with the pitbull puppies, the chickens, so we go straight to nature to try and breathe! think you'd do the same.. we get back from our hike (mind you it's straight through the jungle), we're hot, messy, dirty, and we just want to relax, get clean and have a nice night. but we get to the room and we cannot relax.. there's no AC and it is just SO hot in the front rooms that they put you in (which btw, are right above the garage, so you can hear everything), there are ants all over the kitchen, the power actually went out, so there was no electricity, there are stains on the carpet, the couch, it's just not kept up and NOT COMFORTABLE. We expressed that we were not comfortable, and we wanted to leave. Darcy still DEMANDED money from us, and THEN runs to her car, to block the driveway so that WE CANNOT LEAVE THE PREMISE! I have a picture of it, she literally blocked us in, until we PAID HER CASH. And now, she is keeping the deposit for our car, which has nothing to do with our stay, and she is claiming that she cannot provide our paperwork or receipts or ANYTHING, as "they are destroyed for privacy purposes," which why would that be the case unless you're doing something you're not supposed to be doing. It was just SO uncomfortable, unpleasant and unprofessional (and actually still is, we are still trying to get our deposit back for the rental car). I hope no one has to go through this experience. The owners here only care about MONEY and not people and certainly not your wellbeing. I hate that I had to write this review, but it really needed to be done. I am going to be contacting the county, the BBB and more about this place because this is NOT a bed and breakfast or a retreat and should never call themselves such.

You know you are going to get hammered in a review when the guest says " If you don't give my deposit back, I will leave a bad review and call the county!" That's fine, we have so many great reviews, it's obvious where the problem lies. We have a great relationship with the county, not worried. Not sure how all of this went down when they were only on our property for under an hour total, they got their car, they showed up, left from our property down to the secret falls for a private water fall experience (only available to our guests that stay here) Came back up and said they wanted to leave. Sounds like all they really wanted was to go the water falls and get the car and had no intention of staying here as they said they were going north to stay with a friend. Main motivation is money? We are one of the lowest priced BnB's, and if we were about money we would be charging $ 500 to $ 750 a day for cars as everyone else on the island is right now! We have cars available as a convenience for our guests. There is not one person on this island right now renting cars out for what we do for our guests. A scam? We have been in business for over 30 years, we also are on Air BnB and have excellent reviews, check them, out, this person is just disgruntled because she did not get her deposit back as she left the car an absolute disaster, the worst car we have ever had turned back in to us. We have actually given back every deposit we received but hers, due to the condition of the car. May be a tutorial on how to use Venmo might be helpful as your receipt is right there on the Venmo site. We also take Pay Pal and Zelle, it is the guests choice, and all have receipts, We do not take credit cards and tell everyone that we do not, it would just increase the price of the rooms as they charge a fee. If a guest really wants to pay with a credit card, they can book us through Air BnB with their credit card. It is the guests choice if they want a discounted cash rate. They choose the way they pay, we do not dictate. Run down? How is it the reviews call it amazing, outstanding, piece of paradise, again try reading the Air BnB reviews. We have our weenie dogs in our house, not anywhere around the guests private room or area, and that is actually on our web site. Most all of our guests love them and ask for us to bring them out so they can see them! Chickens in cages, our daughter has 2 mini chickens we just acquired, we have a ranch just down the road and all of our chickens are free range, meaning they do not live in cages they roam free!! We get them acquainted to us and then take them to the ranch and let them run free. We also have rescue animals at the ranch along with Gypsy horses, pheasants, bunnies, ducks and pigs. Many guests request to tour and see the animals. Our mini chickens will be ready to go over this week, sorry your found them so awful. Our puppies have been the rave with all our other guests, they are NOT in the guest area at all, they are in our back yard where guests do not have access. They request we bring them out to play with them, again sorry you find puppies that are not even in your space so terrible. Yes we do offer a cash discounts as many private establishments do, if you do not want to pay cash, that is your choice, pay the regular price either through Venmo, Zelle, Pay Pal or credit card on Air bnB. You do however still need to pay for the room as sited in our policy and procedures, you chose the cash discount, not I, we never forced you to pay cash, you wanted the discount. All of theses payment methods have receipts. We do not have 4 children. We have one young adult, a 15 year old and an 11 year old as stated on our web sit. They are our family and you are staying in our BnB. They are an entrical part of our business as this is a family run business. Yes we have cars for our guest, you certainly did not mind using one!!! Of course we delete our guests private information such as drivers license and personal insurance once they check out, there is no reason for us to keep these on file? Had you asked for copies when you checked in we absolutely would have given you a copy. All of your complaints are unfounded, and can be seen in all our other reviews. Electric out? It was just a breaker, we flipped it back on and done, 2 second fix, but hosts can't fix things if they are not told! Again, you are not getting the deposit back on the car because of the condition of the car upon return. Everyone else has been overwhelming grateful and happy with our BnB and the ability to assist with the car problem here on Kauai, sorry you are so ungrateful and angry. Darcy

From the moment I booked our stay 3 months ago Darcy was extremely accomadting. My wife and I stayed in the Pool View room which had a comfy bed and nice bathroom. Every morning a variety of fresh fruit from the property was served with bread, cereal and bagels. We spent 6 unforgettable days at the Secret Falls Retreat with Darcy and her family. Darcy and Tim have three children who all do their part to help maintain the property and make you feel at home. Their youngest even took us on a hike to the secret falls which was incredible and wouldn't have been possible without him. The family was also very knowledgable about the island sharing great food, hiking and beach options during our stay. They also provided beach chairs, snorkel gear, boogie boards and coolers at no extra cost. This incredibly hard working family bends over backwards to ensure everyone is enjoying their stay. Secret Falls Retreat offers accomdations that can't be matched. With their amazing backyard views, hot tub, pool and open kitchen they have everything you need to enjoy a vacation on Kauai. We can't wait to come back!

There can honestly not much more be said about this place than GO STAY THERE! Super tranquil spot in a great location, lovely hosts, rooms, amenities, pool, and VIEW! Perfect to relax, explore the island or just hang out. One day we will be back!

Before choosing this place I looked and did my research for weeks. After calling and speaking to Darcy I decided to chose this since she was very nice and informative over the phone. Forward to when we arrived: pulled up and it was defiantly not what we expected, no biggie I wanted something different. Darcy and Tim were both welcoming and Darcy showed up to our rooms, we had booked two of them. I must admit the view is amazing. The rooms were ok, nothing fancy but it worked. It was really hot during the day but did cool down at night. There were fans in the rooms we had directly on us all night. Really the only down fall with the rooms were the bugs, bugs everywhere at night, we kept having to wipe them off our bed and would feel then crawling on us at night also bugs in the outside bathroom. We chalked it up as where it was located. The next morning we woke up pretty early as our normal time was 5 hours before. We felt pretty awkward like we were Intruding and felt we had to be as quite as possible. It pretty much like that the 4 nights we stayed. We made sure we stayed gone all day so when we went back we went to bed. Except out last night we enjoyed the eve there by the pool while my son played with river and the little girl that was staying with her family, that was nice. I had to ask for towels twice and felt like I was putting them out. We just felt like we weren't very welcome there or they just didn't like us. Who knows. All we did was just be polite and do our own thing. My husband even suggested we leave and get a room. I wanted different and this defiantly was. Last!!! What really gets me. Upon leaving I left my hanging clothes there and when I realized it I immediately let them know, it was the same day. Unfortunately I had already left the island. It has been months since I left and they have been giving me the run around and refuse to mail mail my clothes. I offered to pay Venmo, send a pre paid shipping label, and even have a friend on the island pick it up. I get that it's my fault but how can a business run like this. Someone spends a lot of money and chose their place but refuse to go the extra mile and just mail items that was left behind. Unbelievable!!! My daughter jokes and says that they like them so much and wanted to keep them why else would they not mail them back!!! I will never refer anyone to stay here. I believe In honesty through and through and this just lacks!! Not just take my money and the costumer service goes out the window!!

Interestingly enough, these people were completely happy while they were here, we always ask what we can do or if any of guests need anything.We always accommodate to the best of our ability. They never once said anything was wrong, if fact everything was awesome. It was not until they did not receive their 2 clothing items they left in the closet that they wrote the bad review. We left the next day for a month business trip on the mainland, we shut down the Bed and Breakfast when we leave. There was no one here to mail out their clothes or to have their friends on island pick them up. 1. We were never told about any bugs in the rooms, but if you leave your light on and door open, its the tropics and the bugs will come in. Close the door. 2. Intruding? The kitchen living area is for all our guests, we are upstairs, did they feel as though they were intruding on our other guests? They were gone all day because as many of our guests, they had excursions planned and none of them in the family appeared uncomfortable at all! 3. Towels, we are always asking our guests if they need fresh towels or sheets, we have an entire room of fresh towels and sheets, so not sure why she felt put out? If they were un happy they sure did not let us know, and we did not see it all, if they wanted to leave and stay at the $ 700.00 night St Regis hotel they should have, may be that is more their style, we are a bed and breakfast. We always go the extra mile, look at all the other reviews and reviews on Air BnB . You cant please all the people all the time, especially if they don't even let you know they are unhappy with something. We never did receive or get offered a pre-payment to send the clothes back and sorry, but we do not wear other peoples clothing and there is no one in this house that size anyway.
