Nestled in a sought-after location, the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa offers guests easy access to the beach and nearby attractions, earning praise for its setting. While the atmosphere ranges from luxurious with stunning ocean views to a vibrant pool scene, opinions on the rooms vary, with some finding them dated and others appreciating their spaciousness and cleanliness. The staff's warmth is frequently noted, although service can occasionally falter. Guests appreciate the pristine grounds and pools but note the value can be affected by additional fees and inconsistent amenities for non-timeshare visitors.

Our family stayed at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott over the holidays. It was a nice resort that is convenient to two shopping centers that had places to eat and shop.

The rooms were relatively spacious and well maintained. For those traveling with young children, there are handheld shower heads and a night light. However, the night light uses a blue light so it was counterproductive. In addition, the wall connecting the bathroom to the rest of the room is an opaque window so if anyone turns on the light in the bathroom, the whole room becomes very bright.

The room has a small mini refrigerator which was nice.

The resort has three main pools that seem heated. The largest pool is the infinity pool was the warmest. There is a cool sand pool that basically had a sand bottom that is connected to a regular smaller pool. The last pool is for the slide, but the water in that pool was very cold. Also, slide users need to be 42 inches tall.

The beach is about a 5-10 minute walk from the pool area. The beach area was a decent size. There is a little kiosk that rents out snorkel gear and what not.

There were other amenities that we did not utilize.

Overall the resort was nice and we would stay there again.

We arrived later than planned for a four night mid-week stay during COVID and knew there would be some limits on food and beverage outlets, activities, etc. I am a Lifetime Titanium Elite member with Marriott and was hoping for a nice room since they were obviously not full. The room assigned to us was in a corner overlooking the parking lot and a property next door. It was nice sized but ready for refurbishing. The hallway on they way to the room was severely worn and dirty leading us to believe this hotel hadn't been upgraded in awhile. Its location however is excellent.

I'm not one to make a big fuss but was very disappointed, so I used the hotels "Chat" feature on the app to ask if there was a better room available. The response was quick and polite but they said they only had an Ocean View room with two doubles. That was not acceptable for my wife and I and asked if something better would be available tomorrow. After a little delay the agent came back and said she found an ocean front room for all four nights but it was in a separate building (OK by us) and to come to the front desk to change key cards.

While the room was in the separate Na Hale Ocean Front building, it was spectacular! The room was very large, with a large balcony overlooking the beach and historic area in front, huge bathroom. We are greatly appreciative of Waikoloa's actions for a long time customer, to make our first time back on the Big Island in 40 years memorable.

Food and beverage was pretty limited but there are lots of good restaurants in the area within walking distance. Housekeeping was only on request but the staff often asked us, as we went in and out what we needed and how could they help make our stay enjoyable. The Concierge staff were very helpful with plotting out day trips and planning for our departure at the airport for Honolulu.

We are currently staying at this resort. It is beautiful! At any other time I am sure the stay would be perfect but we are here amidst the Corona virus situation. The resort offers what they call a "cabana" with showers and a place to store your luggage. Now they have closed those and we have to be out of our room by 11:00 am and our flight isn't until 8:00 pm. They offered us a hotel room for 99 dollars. It seems to me when your resort is not very full you might try to accommodate your guests needs.

Had the misfortune of having to stay here for 2 nights after 7 glorious ones at Westin Hapuna. We extended our stay and the Westin was sold out. We are loyal Marriott customers and have racked up enough points to have titanium elite status. Not that it mattered here whatsoever. The only saving grace was that our SNA request was rejected, but then hotel did move us to a room with a better view.

Location: the hotel is located in the Waikola complex which gives you access to stores and conveniences so you can easily go off resort.

Beach and pool: the beach is beautiful and is very gentle which is great for kids. There are many pools and the slide keeps kids entertained. However, there is very little shade on either. No poolside umbrellas or beachside chair service. Unlike the Westin which has extensive pool side and beach chair service

Parking: parking is 25 bucks with valet parking suspended for now. Somehow the Westin can still have valet parking

Cleanliness and comfort: the rooms are updated but are very small and feel congested. The beds are very uncomfortable, the springs squeaked even under the kids. The patio is likewise tiny and very unimpressive. Our first day there, the drain was fully clogged and engineering spent a good 15 minutes rooting it. How housekeeping had not noticed is beyond me! In stark contrast, Westin was sparkling clean and rooms felt airy.

Service: however, the biggest differentiation is the service at this hotel. As many people have noted, it’s impersonal and cold. As elite members, we always receive communication from the hotel before our stay begins to provide a way to contact and request things. No such thing happened here. When we reached out to ask for a microwave, one was provided at a charge of $10 (unlike the Westin where they were happy to accommodate us). Checkin was rushed, she didnt even give us the welcome leis until our kids asked (interestingly, this is listed explicitly as a benefit of the ridiculous resort fees). Asked about late checkout, and got a curt “it is not an option” without any apologies for not being able to offer it. No options to hold luggage, just a person very eager to get off the phone. The Westin on the other hand was accommodating enough to even offer holding out luggage and letting us use the spa bathrooms after a snorkeling g tour on the day of checkout. The platinum breakfast is a joke, continental breakfast does t even include cereal (The Westin had 3 beautiful choices). The guy running the kids activities was very nice and encouraging

Overall, we are so glad we just had to stay here for 2 nights and instead spent the first 7 at the beautiful Westin property. Given that both properties are category 6 on the bonvoy app, please go to Hapuna! It’s worth the additional 10 minutes for driving time from the airport

Pros: Comfy beds, good coffee bar with homemade banana bread, friendly helpful staff, nice grounds, pools and beach.
Cons: guests are allowed to hoard lounge chairs. Cabanas and beach beds. They are rented by the day for cheap and are fully booked before you even check in. The guests never even show up to use them. They are renterd but remain empty all day. Same with lounge chairs in the shade. All chairs are saved with towels early in the morning and stay that way all day without anyone using them. Why not rent cabanas hourly or half day to give other guests a chance to actually use them. Hotel need some TLC. The couches in the common area are nice but need to be cleaned. One smelled strongly of body odor. More chairs are needed on the beach as well. Limited dining options in Waiokoloa in general. Not close to attractions. I would stay in Kona next time.

We spent only 3 days and the resort I could say is great.
At check-in, they gave free water bottles to each of the guests.
We enjoyed the relaxing beach, spa and its swimming pools.
There were some activities and amenities for free but we could not avail due to the short time we spent here.
They are in a good location including nearby restaurants, shops and grocery.
The regular rooms were not that spacious but with a big comfortable bed.
The toilet and bathroom were spacious and clean.
However, we have to ask for extra toiletries because they only put 1 soap for bath and toilet and 1 set of shampoo and conditioner. And they did again on the next day.
The normal coffees and teas were there including ice bucket.
It has an iron and ironing board. No pair of slippers while on my sister's room on the other room they have.
One setback also is that the next room where there were some children, everytime they will open and close the door, you will hear it very loud.

We stayed at this property for 1 night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. As a titanium elite, I was very impressed with the staff and the reception we received.

Our flight landed in Kona at 9:40 am. We were at the hotel at approximately 10:30 am. Despite the early hour, we were allowed to check in, and even upgraded to a larger corner room with a full ocean view (top floor). We would have been thrilled with just this. But the check-in person did more. When she realized that we had not eaten yet, she gave us a second breakfast voucher (even though we were only staying 1 night) and encouraged us to head right downstairs to have a late breakfast before the restaurant closed at 11 am (which we did... more on that below). She also gave us a voucher for 2 classes of champagne at the bar (to celebrate our anniversary) and, as elite guests, she also comped our parking charge. We were blown away with the way she was bending over backward to ensure that we had a wonderful stay.

The room was very nice, and the property was beautiful. We spent the afternoon enjoying the pools and beach. My only complaint was that the beach itself was very rocky. There was sand, but it only went for a little bit... once you got about knee deep, it was all rocks. In comparison, we spent time at the Mauna Kea and Westin Hapuna resorts, and their beaches were much nicer/sandier. I guess this is why those properties are more expensive.

Elites have access to a free breakfast buffet at the hotel restaurant. While this is technically a 'continental' buffet, we found that it was very filling. We had access to fruit, breads (toast, English muffins, bagels), delicious pastries, cold cuts, cheeses, hard-boiled eggs and waffles. We could have paid extra to add in bacon, hot eggs and custom omelets, but honestly, the continental breakfast was very filling and the extra was not necessary.

The hotel is located near shopping, and it is easy to walk (or drive) to dining options, as well as Island Markets (grocery store) and even a movie theatre.

The hotel has ice machines on each floor. Unlike typical hotel ice machines, the ice is crushed, and there are water dispensers right next to the ice. This makes it very easy to fill up your water bottle at 1 station with ice and water. Oh, and they gave us 2 free reusable water bottles when checking in. This was a really nice touch.

We requested late checkout, and it was granted, so we actually ended up staying at this hotel for over 24 hours. I have never had a hotel property be more welcoming to me, or so willing to fulfill my requests. I rarely write reviews for hotels, but the Marriott Waikoloa Beach is outstanding, and it deserves praise.

We stayed 5 nights at the Westin up the road and then went to Hilo and ended up back at the Marriott for the last 2 nights before flying home. If we had not stayed at the other property we would probably have thought this one was just great, but being able to compare the 2, I would choose the other one as a family with older children. The grounds are very pretty, the pools are nice, but there is no family pool. The sunsets here are amazing and picture perfect both nights we were there. We were upgraded to a larger corner room with 2 king beds (no couch- just 2 chairs) which was a nice amount of space, but not all that great of a view. The balcony is pretty small. The food and drinks from the pool area are great and the bar tender, I think his name was Chad, has been there almost 30 years he said and is very friendly, laid back, happy to offer opinions and ideas of things to do. We liked having an option to go to the bar after dinner. The things I liked better at the other property were fresh flower lei vs shell leis (which we left in the room), much larger balcony, better snorkeling off the beach, better workout facilities, an adult pool and option for a grab and go continental breakfast. They had Water stations by the pool here, but not as many or as easy to spot. It is still a solid 4 resort, especially for families. They have the Luau on site, it was going on as we were checking in, it is smaller than the Marriott one we went to in Maui a few years ago, we could see the performers as we were walking around the property to get a lay of the land and they seemed to be wowing the audience. I also do not like the towel cards and the breakfast cards and having to present a resort card to get a discount, we are staying at a resort that is quite expensive, do you really think we will walk off with a hotel beach towel? The biggest draw is the location because it is located by the kings and queens shops which gives you a lot of options for dinner, shopping, a movie theater, shave ice etc just a few minute walk away.

I moved to the Waikoloa Beach Marriott to join my husband for a vacation following a stay up the road at the Hilton Waikoloa Village for a conference. Once I entered the valet area I felt the Aloha spirit . The valet desk was so helpful and our check-in at the front desk quick. We had paid extra for an ocean view room (3297) and were located on the third floor. Although we could see the ocean/pool area to the side, our direct view included the water slide structure and shrubbery. I would recommend asking for a a room on a higher floor if you're paying extra for an ocean view. My hubby was exhausted after a long day of travel so we decided to be happy with our room. This property is located directly across from the Kings Shops and a 5 minute walk from the Queens Shops. Both locations have many dining and shopping options. We ate breakfast and a few dinners at the Hawaii Calls restaurant on-site and were happy with the food/service. The pools were beautiful with comfortable water temps. Rise early to stake a claim to your chaise lounge if you're interested in having shade from umbrellas. Beach access is an easy 3 minute walk and provide amazing views of the sunset. Unlike the Hilton, housekeeping at the Marriott is provided daily. This property is very family friendly and we enjoyed seeing kiddos having fun. Overall, I was very happy with our stay, the property was very Hawaiian provided a beautiful relaxing home base for our stay on the Big Island.

I don't know what a taxi would cost from the airport. We rented a car that was easy to pick up and return at the airport. I recommend a rental car as there are a lot of sites to see and exquisite restaurants to eat at that are not within walking distance.
Answer from Bree M
The breakfast buffet is available from 7:00-10:00 when we were there. The coffee shop is grab and go but wasn’t included in our package.
