It was wonderful! We stayed in a studio, just me and my husband. The bed was so comfortable, it was so soft and the pillows were cushy too! They provide shampoo which smelled like coconut and the conditioner too. The Body wash was a passion fruit lilikoi essence that really captured the scent. The shower and bathroom are beautiful with natural stone covering the counter tops and shower bench and floor. They provide a complimentary breakfast that was delicious and filling. Hot breakfast is Eggs, sausage, and rice. There’s muffins and pastries, fruits and yogurt parfaits. They have oatmeal, dry cereal and provide all types of milk, from cow to a variety of nut milks. They have a coffee machine that makes you whatever you want. Its like a barista, from espresso shots to cappuccinos and hot chocolate. My husband loved the miso soup, which was perfect on this cool morning.
I do recommend to checkin during the daylight hours, it was difficult to find the driveway to the Inn at night since lighting on the Big Island is very limited. I think it has something to do with the regulations corresponding to the telescope.

5 stars!! Would highly recommend and I would definitely stay again.

Aloha, Wowzer, what a detailed review of your stay. You truly are a Holoholo Queen, showcasing all that Kamuela Inn has to offer, even a tip about finding us during the day. To answer your question, yes, Hawaii County has a light ordinance. Here is a thorough explaination shared by accessfixtures.com: Hawaii lighting ordinances can be confusing and hard to understand. Like many dark-sky friendly communities, lighting regulations in Hawaii County are designed to keep the night sky clear and the stars visible. In addition to preserving the rare natural beauty of the island, dark-sky friendly lighting allows astronomers at observatories like the W.M. Keck Observatory and Canada France Hawaii Telescopes on Mauna Kea to see astronomical bodies like stars and planets. Light pollution can obscure the views of telescopes and night-sky cameras and make it impossible for researchers to do their job. Though we can get into a political debate about whether or not the telescopes belong on Mauna Kea, we are thankful for the ordinance that keeps our skies dark. Next time you're visiting Hawai'i island, take notice of the stars above. It truly is magnificent! A hui hou!

This was a last-minute stay as we had planned to stay with family, but our granddaughter was suddenly sick. The staff was wonderful in hosting us in the last room. The room is actually more like a little suite as the sleeping area is sectioned off from the cozy front room. The bed was comfie, the amenities nice, and the full buffet breakfast delicious. We enjoyed our two-night stay and though we didn’t use the little kitchen area with fridge, we would have found it suited our needs. This is a small remodeled property on grounds lovingly tended. I swooned on seeing the gardenia hedge, and it was fun to take a quick walk around their section of Waimea. We didn’t spend much time in our room as we spent the days at the beach
It isn’t meant to be a big gleaming resort—therefore the aloha spirit abounded in a special welcome. Mahalo!

Aloha northstarvalerie, I'm so sorry your granddaughter fell ill and you couldn't stay with ohana. It sounds like you made the most of it and gave usa a very wonderful 5-bubble review! Mahalo nui loa! We have to say, our gardenias are amazing. They have not stopped blooming. We welcome guests all the time to pick our flowers and adorn themselves or guestrooms with it. You should see when the akulikuli are in bloom, WOW! Perhaps you will continue to consider Kamuela Inn when visiting ohana. We will always welcome you with aloha! A hui hou!

Excellent stay at Kamuela Inn for my wife and me! Rooms (and bed) are very comfortable, a kitchenette with the essential, and good breakfast (very classical). Beach towels are available for free, and several washing machines can be used. All hosts were very kind with us!

This motel and the king room with kitchen were much nicer than I expected. The room was clean and comfy, bed was good, and the shower was excellent. The staff was awesome. The kitchen was well- stocked with dishes and cookware, there's a grocery store close by. The Isaacs Art Gallery down the street is a gem and this motel was a good base for trips to Hawi and the Kohala Coast.

It was cold at night in January with no heat in the room. The front desk provided a space heater which worked well. The motel was hard to find even with GPS, the entrance is next to MOA cafe and the motel itself is down the driveway a bit so the sign is hard to see from the street.

There's a reception/ breakfast room with coffee and tea all day plus a microwave where you could heat prepared food if you have a room with no kitchen. The little garden in back was a nice touch.

Mahalo nui loa! We greatly appreciate your 5-bubble rating and review. The Annual Wood Show at the Isaacs Art Center is one of our faves! Another favorite is the Firehouse Gallery, and almost once a month, the Big Island Art Fair comes to town at Kahilu Town Hall (Mana Christian Ohana). We found a wonderful Jacaranda piece by Trish Helms kimball at that fair. It is proudly displayed at our front desk as a homage to our beloved jacaranda tree that is no longer with us. We hope you'll find another time to visit and enjoy all that Waimea has to offer. A hui hou!

Room was clean (#18) with 2 chairs and a small table, plus dresser. TV mounted on wall was great for viewing but in an awkward place. Although high on the wall at the corner between the entry/sitting area and the bedroom, a bottom corner of the TV is directly in the path of travel between the entry/sitting area and the bedroom. A ceiling mount might enable the TV to be placed further into the bedroom or the entry/sitting area and still allow viewing from both areas. Alternatively, some soft foam in a bright color could be wrapped around the bottom of the TV to make sure people know the TV is there and soften the blow.
I would have loved a second luggage rack! Two people bring two suitcases.

I live on Hawaii Island and regularly book rooms for colleagues who come to visit for work nearby in a forestry project. We have booked here several times a year for the last 6 years, will keep coming! We all love the Kamuela Inn.
The grounds are well kept, the rooms are neat and clean, linens are nice and fresh. Many of the rooms have small kitchenettes so you can eat inside. Several restaurants are within walking distance as well. Parking is always available and easy to find.
The breakfast buffet is simple but sufficient. There are usually eggs and some sausage, cereal or oats for oatmeal, and a nice Nespresso machine.
But really, what makes the Kamuela Inn special is the people. All of them are really friendly and eager to chat, have wonderful stories, and are the true meaning of aloha.

The Kamuela Inn is the best bang for your buck on the Big Island. The newly decorated rooms have a tasteful upcountry aesthetic, they are clean and the pillows, sheets and towels are super comfy. The complimentary breakfast is very generous and can be enjoyed on one of the many patio tables around the property.

Aloha, Thank you for sharing about your recent stay at Kamuela Inn. We have been listening to guests and have recently purchased 4 additional picnic tables and umbrellas for the front lawn. Now there are more outdoor areas for enjoying our daily complimentary breakfast. The new umbrellas also have solar-powered LED lights for sharing an evening cocktail or two. We hope you can visit again as we continue to improve and make your stay even more enjoyable. Mahalo nui loa!

Staff was amazing! We felt very ʻat homeʻ and comfortable here. We stayed in the Executive 2 Suite and it was pretty great. Didnʻt expect the bunk beds to be in the middle room with no door/privacy but beds were pretty good and well kept. Wish there were warmer blankets available, as it gets very cold at night and early morning. Complimentary breakfast made the stay more worth the price, food options were not scarce. Coffee machine is a necessity, get one as many times as you can! Overall we really enjoyed our stay! Canʻt wait to come back :)

Aloha Kuilani, Our Executive Suite Two with bunkbeds is meant to feel like you're ranching with the whole ohana. The photos on the website do show that they are open to the living room, making those talk story times with family fun and welcoming. I can see how trying to go to bed could be a problem, so perhaps we'll consider adding some curtains like you see on trains. Stay tuned! As for the cold Waimea nights, extra blankets are also always available upon request. Just use the text messaging system or stop by the front desk, we'd be happy to assist. Portable heaters are also available as well. We hope to have you visit again to earn that 5 star rating. Until next time, mahalo and a hui hou!

Aloha, friendly, calm, and an atmosphere of peace and relaxation. Even the grounds keeper was able to share a kind word or two. Decor was/is pleasant, appropriate, without going overboard.
Breakfast was always something to look forward to. Our third stay at Kamuela Inn, Love it.
One thing: floor felt “dusty”. As locals, we take our slippers & shoes off when entering a room or house. But the floor felt dusty, a little gritty, so my son kept his socks on and my wife and I kept our slippers on. But, other than that, great stay, great trip, three days and two nights. Spent Thanksgiving in Waimea, Thanksgiving Dinner was Fried chicken, rice, sweet potato salad, pumpkin pie and ice cream. No hassle, no worries, no work. Want to visit again in December.

Aloha, It sounds like you had a delicious Thanksgiving dinner that would cause anyone to have a "Kanak Attack" after. YUMMY!!! We hope to see return in December as our Christmas lights are up and ready for your enjoyment. As for the dusty feeling floor, our apologies. We do like to leave guest room windows slightly ajar on the day of arrival to welcome in our fresh country air, but should have erred on the side of caution with the high winds we experienced that week. Our Waimea soil is so fine and rich in nutrients, it just goes everywhere when the makani is present. Auwe, our apologies, and mahalo for your understanding. Don't forget, our Stay Waimea Special is good until the end of 2020! See you soon. A hui hou!

This was one of the loveliest inns we’ve stayed in on our vacation. It truly embodied Aloha spirit and paniolo charm. The grounds were lovely, well-maintained and brilliantly decorate for the holidays. We upgraded our room and it was wonderful with a spacious kitchen and seating area, comfortable king size bed and well-appointed bath. The breakfast was generous with many selections including those with diet restrictions (me). But it was the staff that made it feel lie home away from home.

Sorry I deleted the pic due to I don’t enough storage on my phone but if you want my honest answer . For me it was very descent room simple with small fridge and tv but the most important for me is the cleanliness is out standing and I’m very particular with pillow case and and bed sheets are very clean and I can sure you with that. Dec.28, 2018 My son and I stay Room : 12 Superior (2 Twins) it’s not renovated yet the building because I believe there not done yet renovating but it was pretty clean got shower and very clean bathroom no fun but you don’t need it because Waimea weather are wonderful so you just have open window and feel the fresh air breeze . The room is simple but comfortable and very clean. The pic I’m going to share is the building tru the end left corner that we’re not renovate yet but still I can say it pretty descent place and even there renovated rooms the price is not really bad especially you’re in a tourist spot town.
