This is a gated community- very quiet and safe. Some homes have individual pools, some do not but the community pool is nice ( concrete gets hot! So take flip flops). The mauna Lani beach club is on a nice, calm bay, covered seating is available if you get there about 900-1000 am

Our family chose the Big Island of Hawaii for a family vacation - primary reason being that none of us had been to the Big Island - One big decision was accommodations for five. As a result, we researched the issue thoroughly. We decided on Unit #320 at the Villages at Mauna Lani

The condo itself was very nice and the Mauna Lani beach club beach was wonderful. However we were *extremely* disappointed (and felt very misled) when we learned from the Mauna Lani that were in fact NOT able to use the Mauna Lani pool. The South Kohala - Mauna Lani website s

Thank you for your review and we are pleased that you enjoyed your accommodations at the Villages. As a guest of the Villages you are extended the resort privileges of the home owner, with complimentary access to the Mauna Lani Resort facilities at the Beach Club (a private beach with lounge chairs, towels, a full-service restaurant and a parking access card). You also have access to the amenity complex at the Villages development (a pool, gym and outdoor BBQ facilities). The "Mauna Lani Pool' that you are referencing is the pool located at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows. This is a hotel pool that is only available for use by hotel guests (not resort home owners or vacation rental guests). Visitors may dine at the hotel restaurants and patronize public shops and areas, but the hotel facilities are not owned by the resort nor accessible by anyone other than a a guest of the hotel. Thanks for bringing up this point to other travelers. Management has reviewed our online content and descriptions of these facilities to ensure accuracy for future visitors. Mahalo!

We've rented multiple units in this complex and additionally know many owners. These are privately owned, very well-constructed town-homes in a gated community that is not directly on the ocean (additionally there are a few stand-alone homes, although these may not be bookable).

Hello! Have you got an apartment available for 1 night: check in August 18th and check out August 19th? My family is composed by 4 people: 2 adults and 2 children (11 and 6 years old). I would be grateful if you write to me availability and prices. Hoping to have news soon, best regards. Alessandro Donato
"Try to get a unit close to the main gates/grocery . Also ask if there are bikes available-those would be useful."
"Try to research the individual units offered and look at photos."
"Just note that this was not a hotel. The unit was private. The back lanai over-looked a small putting green."
