We stayed for five nights in February and thoroughly enjoyed our time at this delightful B&B. All rooms have beautiful views overlooking lush vegetation and the sea beyond. In the evenings you can watch the sunset from your lanai and hear the insects and creatures chirping when it turned dark. It was fun to see the wild pigs roaming about and to watch the finches at the bird feeders every morning whilst we were eating the delicious breakfasts prepared by Elma. The hosts Carl and Elma were very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. There was an impressive array of snorkelling equipment available to borrow as well as beach towels and reef shoes. Carl went out of his way to find a pair of fins to fit me. If we ever get the chance to come back to Hawaii we will definitely stay here again.

All 3 rooms in this B&B are located on the lower level and all have private lanis with great ocean views for miles. Carl and Emma made us feel very welcome and provided lots of useful information about the area. My wife appreciated the shower tub combo. Great breakfast including breads, eggs, fresh fruit from their gardens and locally sourced fresh ground coffee. Plenty of snorkel equipment if you need it as well as chairs, umbrellas, water shoes and boogie boards. Easy entry snorkelling at 2 Step just a miles away. We would definitely stay again.

Before leading a tour with PhotoFly Travel Club, my colleague and I needed a place to stay to await our group's arrival. We found Hale Ho'ola on a booking website and between the price, reviews, and offering, we were very pleased with our decision. Carl and Elma are running a true B&B experience that offers what a lot of places are missing: personal touch. Both of the welcomed us, shared local information, made themselves available to ask questions, and have done a great job creating an idyllic lodge. From the Palm room, the deck offered an unobstructed views to the ocean in the background with protected land in the foreground filled with lush vegetation. We really enjoyed our stay and would be happy to come back again - and we likely will!

Carl and Elma are wonderful hosts. Couldn't have asked for anything more during our four nights stay at Hale Ho'ola B&B. Great location in Captain cook, quite close to two-step, one of the best places for snorkeling in Big Island. We stayed in the Palm suite that had a wonderful lanai with ocean view. Nothing like waking up to a delicious breakfast in the morning (that our kids finished each time, BTW ;-)) and being able to borrow all the gear necessary for a day on the beach..., with helpful tips from Carl and Elma on places to visit.

It's a nice place to stay and enjoy the nature setting of its location. There are three rooms, each with a large lanai with views of the ocean and lush vegetation. They are great spots to watch the sunset. There is a couch and two comfortable chairs plus a dining table and two chairs on the lanai. There is also a refrigerator there.
In the common area there is a microwave, some dishes, can opener, tea and a tea kettle and utensils.
Beach chairs, boogie boards, mats, beach towels, a beach umbrella and snorkeling equipment are available there to borrow.
The ensuite bathroom has a shower that is fine. Shampoo, body wash and conditioner are all provided, as well as liquid hand soap at the sink.
The room itself is small and simply furnished, but with the lanai and the common area this is not a problem at all.
There is a ceiling fan and plenty of [screened in] ventilation so the temperature was comfortable.
There didn't seem to be any mosquitoes and we sat on the lanai at night with shorts on and no insect repellent.
The hosts and their dog are nice. Carl gives you a map of the area and gives a detailed description of places to see and things to do. It might be a good idea to record it to retain all of the information.
Breakfasts is served at 8:00 AM and they are very good. We were there six nights and the breakfasts were never the same. They always included fruit. They have several papaya trees that provide some of the fruit.
The breakfast is served up on the top deck with excellent views and nice plants. There are two bird feeders that Carl fills up each morning and it's nice to watch the activity while you eat. Very many Java Sparrows (an introduced species) dominate the feeders- jockeying with each other for access. Saffron Finches and Cardinals also make appearances and sometimes manage to grab some food.
We also had beautiful Gold Dust Day Geckos come onto our table at breakfast.
The frogs (mostly Coqui- an invasive species from Puerto Rico) are very loud all through the night. It didn't bother us but some may be disturbed by them so you may want to have ear plugs.

The hosts are wonderful and friendly, (including their dog Rex), the location is terrific, with fantastic views of the ocean. The rooms are clean and cozy, each room has a private lanai and breakfast is served on a large deck all with that fabulous view. We were so glad we stayed here and hope to come back some day.

After a terrible experience with a different vacation rental, we found Hale Ho’ola. Staying here was like a breath of fresh air. Elma and Carl were very friendly and the breakfasts were delicious. Lots of beach equipment available to use towels, snorkel gear, boogie boards, etc. The view of the fruit trees and ocean is breathtaking. We highly recommend Hale Ho’ola and hope to someday stay again.

We made our reservations for a 5 night stay (Dec. 07- Jan 08) in July 07, and received confirmation that we were booked. When we showed up for our first scheduled night, they told my wife and I that they had made a mistake and that we would have to sleep on an uncomfortable pullout couch facing the highway and that we would have to take our showers in the owners' personal bathroom. After initially wanting to charge us for it, Mary decided not to charge us for that evening. The next day we were able to move into one of the three suites. However, they told us two nights later (after returning to the place after a long day of sightseeing) that they had made yet another mistake and we would have to move rooms again. People shouldn't have to deal with this kind of hassle while on vacation. In addition to their disorganization in room bookings, the bathrooms were not that clean. Another annoying incident occurred when we came back in the afternoon for a bit of rest in our room. While we were relaxing, Mary stood outside our door and began to call our names. When I came to the door she asked me if I was the cause of some beach sand that had been tracked into one of the common areas. Since I had not been to the beach, I told her that I was not to blame. As a host, she should've taken care of this as a part of doing business, and not disturbed her guests. I would not return to this B&B and I would not recommend it to friends and family.

This was one of the most pleasant B&B's we've ever stayed at. The owners, Bob & Mary, could not have been nicer to my husband and I. They extended themselves to accommodate us on short notice and we felt so comfortable and at home there that I didn't want to leave. The lanai overlooks the ocean and was totally separated from the other two lanais. The breakfasts we were served were delicious and Mary puts so much effort into making you feel at home that you feel like you're visiting your best friend. We would highly recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a real vacation!!!

All the rooms are situated with great balcony and ocean views. If you need extra sleeping capacity, the Palm Room has 2 queen sized beds while the other rooms have one queen sized bed. Also the breakfast lanai area has awesome views, sunsets are lovely and very relaxing.

OK Thanks for contacting Us. All lanais face the ocean, the ocean is 2k away you can see it and hear the swells crashing but we are not beach side , between is land Bishop Kamehameha Heritage land, It is wild. The land has cattle on it and they pass by . There is a fence and rock fence,, there are also pigs , wild , which can be seen. There are sounds of country Hawaii, pigs, cows, birds , and sometimes chickens.. There is no golf course and no high raises.. The Lanai is private with a small refrigerator and people enjoy being their particularly in the evenings. Up stairs is the main Lanai where breakfast is served, people often come up to start gaze, we have torches and its a wonderful atmosphere. people use the free wifi and drink our local 100% kona coffee or have a tea or wine.. its wonderful..
