Detailed Reviews
We had an excellent stay at the Kona Palace in Captain Cook on our first night in Big Island. This well appointed B&B is very comfortable, tastefully decorated and has a magnificent view from its hillside location of the lowlands and the Pacific. The owner is very friendly, well informed and makes an excellent breakfast which is served on the lanai overlooking the ocean.

A bit off the beaten track but well worth it! Rebecca is a wonderful host, makes a great breakfast and gives you great tips about the quaint surrounding areas. Don’t miss the snorkeling at “2 Step” Bay (Honaunau Bay). Surrounding area is full of farms, tropical foliage and trees.
The trip down to the place is a little steep but AWD car is fine (mine worked well- a Chevy Malibu).
Save $$$ and book through her directly CONEVacationHome@gmail.com
I’ll add some pics. It’s so nice.

We were at Kona Palace in Captain Cook just before everything got locked down because of the virus. It is a wonderful place to stay. Our room and the common area are both beautiful. The lanai is comfortable and offers an incredible view. Rebecca is a gracious host, with helpful suggestions, and she makes a great breakfast with her own fresh fruit. She keeps the house spotless.
Other reviewers have complained of the steep driveway. Yes, it is steep because it is on a mountain. That’s what you get when you choose to stay somewhere which offers peace and quiet, and is not overrun with tourists. It’s not a resort. If you want that, go to somewhere like the Sheraton. But if you want to feel like you are in one of the most beautiful settings in the world, Kona Palace is a great choice.

I was skeptical about a B&B. However, our experience was great. Cons included a rooster, owned by the neighbor, that crowed at 4am, and again at 6am (sunrise), there are not TVs in the individual bedrooms, and I could hear one of the other quests snoring on a couple of nights. Also, the driveway is a bit scary to navigate, with a steep slope, narrow pathway, and a blind curve. Pros were a clean room, a lovely host, Rebecca, and delicious home-made breakfasts. The porch/patio faces the ocean, for amazing sunsets! The kindness and service we got from the owners was amazing. My husband and I stayed for 8 days. The owner, Rebecca, was kind enough to do a load of laundry for us, let me borrow a sun hat, and even bought me a lei on my birthday! I cannot say enough good things about this location. We would definitely stay here again. Beautiful property and wonderful hosts.

Be prepared for stunning sunsets and ocean views as well as wonderful conversation with these wonderful hosts. Rebecca and her husband are gracious hosts that welcome you into their home. Breakfast was delicious. Fresh eggs, served with bagels, homemade jams and tangelo juice made with fruits grown on their property.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, it was well worth the trip down the driveway. 🤣

We rented this through Expedia the night before was listed as a hotel. got there and the steep driveway prevented us from getting to the property so walked down to see how steep road was. it is steeper than 10 percent grade.. so we didn't dare take the rental car down it wouldn't have made it back out. we called the owners she was just rude and ignorant. we canceled through her then contacted Expedia. even though it was falsely advertised Expedia said they had to get the owners permission to cancel and the owner waited three days before answering expedias call. The owners refused a refund Expedia refused a refund.. just a Horrible experience on an otherwise great vacation.

Kona Palace of was the highlight of my circle island tour of the Big Island. A refreshing tropical setting with a view of the coast you never get tired of looking at, and the sunset was beautiful! The bed was very comfortable, and everything was fresh and clean, and private. Parking was simple. The breakfast was yummy and featured Liliko'i butter made by the hostess, who knows all the local places and how to get there.

This B&B is remote and hard to access, with extremely steep driveway. A lot of the advertised amenities are not there, e.g. no access to the kitchen.
What is not advertised, however, is that you will be sharing the house with the owner, and that the owner will constantly monitor and judge you, making you feel unwelcome. Also no early check ins and late check outs. I happen to have a meeting that I hope I can listen to in the common area around check out time (oh btw VERY poor cell signal there), the owner Rebecca interrupted me mid call and to kick me off the property at 10 am sharp. I was also told that if I need to sit in the car after check out to use their internet I need to pay. This is downright the rudest hostess I've met anywhere in the world. Captain cook is am amazing area, I would recommend staying somewhere else to save you the headache.

Beautiful views, great breakfast and Rebecca made it a great stay! We stopped in Kona on our way south. Rebecca was attentive and generous. We enjoyed our visit with her. The breakfast was amazing! We enjoyed our view as we drank fresh squeezed OJ and ate fruits out of the garden. Bed was comfy, the room is lovely and filled with antiques. Great vibe! Super laid back!
We instantly had a connection since I'm a Rebecca too. Would love to visit again. We felt like we made a new friend, while enjoying a great place. Yes the driveway is steep! Made it more fun!

Not a hotel this is a bed and breakfast. No tv in room, no microwave or access to kitchen, no hot tub for guests, no front desk. No coffee available before breakfast at 8:30 . Spotty internet, steep steep driveway that would intimidate most people and no service animals allowed. Owner made us feel like we were more of an inconvenience than welcome. For the price we expected so much more, so disappointed!
