Detailed Reviews
We’ve stayed at the Big Bear several times, and never been disappointed. Priced very competitively, the Big Bear is an older hotel that’s been updated. During the summer season, they have live music and horse rides each evening—weather permitting. We enjoyed the entertainment, especially the music and watching the Shetland pony, Cookie, ride in the golf cart! Due to Covid, most hotels aren’t cleaning daily, but our room at the Big Bear was stocked with plenty of soap, tp, shampoo, etc. We definitely were made to feel welcome to ask for anything we needed. Staff was super friendly, and took time to mingle with the guests during the evening entertainment. We would recommend Big Bear to families, singles, couples, really anyone looking for a simple, clean room in Cody!!

Our stay at Big Bear Motel was the highlight of our trip. This family owned motel features large, clean rooms (that included a comfy bed, a fridge and a microwave) and a very unique experience where horse ride are offered nightly, along with live music and a very friendly atmosphere. The whole family loved our stay here.

This place was the closest to Yellowstone's east gate with vacancy. But, bring ear plugs because there is no sound deadening. We could hear above, outside and beside our room as if we were in a tent. There was no counterspace to put our things which made functioning difficult. The price is high for the quality of furnishings, towels, toiletries and services.

Thank you so much for your feedback, we are glad to hear from our guests! We apologize for the inconveniences that you have experienced during your stay. It is not normally noisy around the Big Bear except for our live music in the summer months in the early evenings. If ever you are in the area, we would love the chance to offer you a better stay with a bigger room in a quieter location on the property. Thank you for staying with us, you are always welcome back at the Big Bear!

We booked this motel on very short notice, the Friday of Memorial weekend. We were taking a road trip to see Yellowstone over the long weekend. When I called and spoke with Bill at the reservation desk he was very pleasant and helpful. We drove most of the night and arrived around 11:00 a.m. on the Saturday of Memorial weekend, they were very accommodating and let us check in when we arrived because the room was ready. This is not a normal practice for motels so we really appreciated it! The drive to Yellowstone park is about an hour away with a nice drive. Our room on the second floor was very clean and the beds were comfortable. They did not have room service at the time probably due to Covid so we did not get any clean towels on our second day. Time did not allow us to try the pool but it did look very inviting and on a summer time trip I bet it would be perfect.

This is a great old style motel. It doesn’t have any frills, but the rooms are large, clean, and comfortable. We stayed in a single queen on the ground floor, and the room had great views of the mountains. There was a table and chairs, which was great for eating the take out BBQ we got from down the road. Air conditioning worked well and wasn’t noisy. Room came with a fridge that had a small freezer that was prefect for keeping our drinks cold. Pretty sure there was also a microwave, but we didn’t need one so I’m not positive. They have an ice maker for complementary ice, plus they sell bagged ice. They also provide complementary shampoo and soap. There isn’t a coffee maker in the room, but they provide coffee in the lobby starting at 7ish. The staff we dealt with were incredibly friendly and helpful, truly felt like they wanted us to have a wonderful experience. There is a restaurant across the road that opens for breakfast at 6, everything we tried was tasty. Easy walking distance to the rodeo and other attractions, easy driving to many more. We enjoyed our stay here, and if we every found ourselves in Cody again, we would not hesitate to stay here again.

I booked over at Big Bear Motel because of its great ratings. It wasn’t cheap, almost $200 a night but figured it was worth it to have a nice room. The room was SUPER tiny, and only had this mini fridge to store everything we brought. I wish the website showed the rooms better because I probably would have booked somewhere else to have the same service and same room size but cheaper. WiFi wasn’t great, and not a lot of options when you have a pet along with you.

We at the Big Bear want to thank you for choosing to stay with us, and for your kind feedback. Cody does get on the pricey side during the height of the summer months being a tourist town. We hope you had a good experience coming through our little town, and hope you had the chance to join us for the free horse rides and live music that we put on every evening in the summer months. You are always welcome back!

Hotels and motels in Cody can be pricey... but a family room at Big Bear didn't break the bank. Their pool is clean and open, they have horse rides in the evening (free), and the musician aying live music was fun and worth the listen. The motel is an old school motel that has been partially updated - bit domt let that shy you away. We rented a family room with 3 queen beds and a couch. It was clean, well as stocked, had a microwave and frig, beds were comfortable and it wasn't noisy from the road or outside. We felt like we had stepped back in time to a slower pace - and thats what we wanted. Its on about a 3 minute drive or 10 minute walk to the Cody Rodeo... which we went to as well and had an excellent time. Cody and Big Bear Motel are both worth the visit!

The rooms are adequate and clean but dated and minimalist in terms of size and decor. The A/C was functioning well during the July heat. My singular objection to the property is its description as "pet friendly" when that entails paying $25/dog/night. Traveling with two dogs, that added $50 for the one night stay, a 25% upcharge for the privilege of bringing our dogs into the room for the night. There are no carpets on the floors, bed covers were dated and machine washable. Hard to comprehend the need for a $50 fee.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback! It is important to us and to our guests that we continue to offer pet friendly options as fewer properties in Cody will take pets. The pet fee is there for us to ensure that we can pay housekeeping for their outstanding efforts in keeping our pet friendly rooms just as clean as a non-pet room. Thank you for staying with the Big Bear, we hope to have you with us again someday if ever you are passing through!

This place is awesome. Check in was simple and easy. The young man at the front desk was friendly and helpful. The room was bigger than we expected. Very clean and comfortable. Pool was perfect for a swim after a long day of driving. The kicker for us was the free horseback ride and live entertainment at night. Oh and the view wasn't a bad thing either, even with the smoke. We are usually budget hotel people (under $100) but this was well worth the price. You will not be disappointed

We had a room with 2 queen beds. They were ok except you hit your head on the lamp shade (which was really dusty) when leaning against the headboard. The bigger problem is the pipe under the sink separated flooding the floor where we had some personal items. We informed them and the response was thank you, we’ll take care of it. I fully expected more of a response (a partial refund) when we are having to do plumbing in the night on a $200/night room. I am rating it a 2 rather than 1 only because they are very friendly.

We are sorry that your stay was not up to expectations. At the Big Bear we work hard to provide a clean, comfortable, and enjoyable stay for our guests. The owners live on site 24 hours a day, and are happily available if ever there are any issues in the room such as plumbing fixes. If you are ever passing through the area again, we would be happy to make it up to by providing a better experience. You are always welcome back!

It’s very close - 5 to 10 minutes walk but a fair bit of that is across the Rodeo car park so you would need to walk that even if you drove!
there is a pool alright - Check out my pic but as of last sat 18 sept I did not see any water in the pool.
We do have some pet friendly rooms so we ask to let us know or call direct to avoid confusion 307 587 3117 thanks Bill
