We stopped at the Irmo during cross country road trip. They asked us if we would like the newer rooms or the older original rooms. We chose the older original rooms for the same price. It feels like you’re walking through a building 100 years ago as you go to your room. We had a double queen room which was air-conditioned had many windows and everything you expect from modern day hotel. The only negative was the bathroom sick which has no place to sit your toiletries but that’s being picky. From the wallpaper to the carpet to the furnishings it feels like it’s 100 years old or more. The service was great and the location is even better right in downtown Cody. One of the best parts is when you walk down the steps you’re walking into the main restaurant/lounge area. If you’re in the area avoid the chain hotels and stay here.

June 2020 was my second time staying at this amazing hotel. I had my two boys with me and I wanted to take them way back to a different time and this place certainly allows for that. You feel like you are literally stepping back in time. We stayed in a historical room and the everything from the decorations to the “aura” make it feel very authentic. The pull chain toilet and bear claw tub and low hanging light fixtures are actually quite inviting. Please do not come here expecting a five star experience. If you come looking for things to complain about you will find them. There is no elevator. The hotel was built right around 1900. Expect some things to feel aged. Come for the experience and the friendly staff and ,whatever you do, don’t forget to go check out the beautiful redwood bar in the dinning area. I could not recommend this place more. I’ll definitely be back a third time.

We really debated before we booked a two night stay at the Irma Hotel. The location in town is absolutely perfect. The front desk staff are a bit short and this was one thing that concerned me when I booked the room.
We were in Room 18 and it had a great view of downtown. If people are out on the rooftop bar, then they are looking directly into your room. Thankfully, nobody was up there during our stay. The room was tastefully appointed but the furniture is very tired. The loveseat desperately needs new cushions. You do get quite a bit of noise from the Main Street in town but we were so tired each evening that it did not bother us. The bathroom was clean (why would you use a wooden toilet seat!) and efficient. The closet had dirty linens thrown on the floor....we just closed the door and ignored. The bed squeezed and rattled anytime you moved and the mattresses were WELL BEYOND their timeline.
The hotel itself is very interesting and the history alone is worth a visit. For what we paid, even with the location and the historical aspect, I just could not give it more than three stars. Plus, they were not asking customers to wear masks.
Note: I generally don’t have many 3 star reviews. We search TA before we do anything. So, when a place first live up to its reviews, then I feel like I should report it for others.

I have stayed at the Irma Hotel with my Dad and Brother on an adult/man trip years ago. Although the hotel is old, I have always been interested in Buffalo Bill and loved our stay and the town.
Now that my children are older, my family planned a trip with multiple stops and the Irma was a must on my list.
My mom was put in room 15 and we were in 35. A few minutes after we walked in, my daughter knocked on the door and said “can you hear that?” Our room (35) was two hallways over from 15 and I could hear a rattling noise. Walking into my moms room, the air conditioner was creating this noise.
By the time I walked in, my mom already stopped by the front desk and was told they were sold out and could not move her. They said they would call maintenance to fix it.
A few hours later, I walked to the front desk with a recording of the noise to show them. While waiting to get the employees attention, The young female working that night made a comment about my mom complaining about the noise. The older female employee rolled her eyes. When i saw my family walk down the hallway to join me, I asked the younger employee if she was talking about my family (she denied but was flustered) I played the video and asked when maintenance was coming. Once again, they stated that they called maintenance and they were in their way.
I turned off the ac and she relied on the ceiling fan (no windows in this room) for the night.
The next day, on our way out for the day, I stopped to inquire about the maintenance man. Tim, the only employee who seemed to understand and try to help, knew nothing about it since nothing was written in the maintenance book. He said he would call but couldn’t guarantee they could get it fixed that day and asked that I stop back for an update when I returned.
We once again stopped back but the two ladies from the previous night were working again. No apologies but offered my mom room 17.
We moved her in 17 and found shampoo and ensure in the fridge , left from the previous occupants. A few hours later, my mom realized she forgot her pillow in the previous room. She asked for a key to get it. Her bed was made and new towels were put in the bathroom but her pillow was there and a cup she used was still on the dresser. This made us question the cleanliness of the room (hoping they did more before next guest).
The next morning, i tried to take a shower and there was no hot water.
Final thoughts:
Yes, this is an old hotel but the ac was not original and i found other reviews from a month ago with the same issue in the same room.
Most staff did not seem to care and we were an inconvenience to them (At night, we saw the staff, in a group all smoking together on the front patio while guests were waiting at check in (this happened multiple times in 1 day)
There are other options in town to stay and you can walk in the Irma to have a drink if you wish to see it.

This place needs the owner or manager to walk around and look at their hotel. The entry carpet is filthy. I can’t believe anyone in management could possibly not insist on this being replaced. Quaint things like, peeling wallpaper, which maybe the original, toilet paper roll 4’ in the air conveniently located behind your left shoulder, a claw tub/shower that hugs you with the curtain and no place to put the soap or shampoo while showering. While getting into the tub/shower there is nothing to grip/grab to help keep your balance. Then there is the check in experience. We arrived around 5:30pm, the desk registrar also serves as the restaurant cashier and hostess. After being ignored for about five minutes we hit the bell. Apathetic or indifferent are two adjectives that come to mind to use about our greeting. Despite all of this we chose to stay here. (Our fault) Take my suggestion and stay elsewhere and tour here for the historic value of the building. After our check in experience and the filth of the entry area we decided not to eat at the restaurant so I can’t evaluate it

I've stayed at the Irma before and always enjoy this bit of history on my trips to the area. The hotel is comfortable and close to plenty of restaurants. Staff is also very helpful. Normally, I would give the review a 4 or a 5 on the hotel itself, but I'm somewhat put off by the hotel's lack of attention to the current pandemic. I recognize that Wyoming itself may not have as strict rules as the East or West Coast, or even Montana, but the staff should set an example, at minimum.
We dined elsewhere our night of arrival, but did have a beer at the Irma bar at around 10pm. All was well, the two bartenders wearing masks, etc. The next morning was different. The person who checked us out did not wear a mask (wore it around his neck). Our waiter at breakfast did wear a mask, but the person working (or visiting with customers) behind the bar in the main dining room did not. It also was disconcerting to see a line of customers hanging around waiting to be seated, none of them wearing masks. This was in contrast to what I had witnessed recently in Yellowstone, Jackson and Billings/Red Lodge. Mayhap the waiting line could wait outside - many bars and restaurants follow this simple procedure.
4-5 stars for the hotel itself - and breakfast was a solid 4.

We traveled around Wyoming and Montana for a month and expected our visit to the Irma Hotel to be one of our favorite stops. It was not!! We have nothing positive to say about this run down historic property. We stayed two nights with a room in both the old section and the “newly updated historic section”. The furnishings belong at a swap meet or a flea market and are not selected to offer any comfort to the guest. Dinner on our first night confirmed that we would not take advantage of the breakfasts that were offered free with our stay. The service, the food, just everything, was so below par we decided to stay clear after our disastrous dinner. We stayed in several historic hotels this trip that I would highly recommend, but this was not one of them!!

We stayed at the Irma Hotel in Cody WY. We had planned to stay one night, but liked the place (and town) so much that we stayed 2 nights.
We were in room 52, which apparently is one of the newer rooms. It was a big room, with 2 queen beds, TV, A/C, ceiling fan, a small fridge with a freezer compartment, coat rack (no closet), a pot coffee maker, and a big picture of Buffalo Bill (that could be lit up). But there was no window in the room, and no safe.
The bathroom had a modern tub and shower.
You had to go to the front desk to get ice, and then that person had to go to the kitchen to get it. And you had to wear a mask when doing so.
Breakfast was not included. Parking was free.
There was a daily gun fight show right outside the hotel at 6 PM, which lasted about a half hour. This was followed by music outside, too. They wouldn't take your drink order out there but you could bring drinks from the bar outside.
The big bar given to Buffalo Bill by Queen Victoria was impressive, but wasn't used as a bar. It was just decoration. The real (smaller) bar was in another room.
We would stay there again.

Tucked in the north-east corner of the hotel is the Irma Bar. It has great Western ambiance and the mixed drinks are good. Snacks are best passed up. Several years ago I tried their "nachos" which convinced me they knew nothing about Mexican food. A second try only confirmed it. "Nachos" were broken-up corn chips which made scooping up anything difficult. The ground meat seemed completely unseasoned; the salsa was very mild; the cheese was American cheese (like Velveeta) with no relation to the Mexican-style cheeses normally used with nachos. Definitely all Gringo. There are other snacks on the menu, like jalapeno poppers, which may be worth a try. Pass on "nachos."

This was a fantastic stay on this week long visit to historic hotels in Wyoming. Our second night was spent at the Irma in Cody, Wyoming which was built and owned by Buffalo Bill Cody. Our check in and check out were slow and that was the only flaws in what was a fantastic stay. The hotel needs to designate one person to be dedicated to the front desk as those that were working seemed to be bouncing all over doing other jobs leaving customers standing at the desk for 15-20 minutes. Our room was well decorated in period decor and was clean and comfortable. We had very little outside noise throughout the night considering that the hotel is on Main Street in the downtown area. My wife and I would stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in a historic hotel.

I'm not sure but I would think not. It's a small enough town though that if you're going to be there for an extended stay laundry shouldn't be a problem.
We do not allow pets at Buffalo Bill's Irma Hotel. However, the Cody Motor Lodge which is located just a few blocks from us does. We apologize for any inconvenience. If we can be of any further assistance please let us know.
Thank you
