Historic buildings located couple blocks from the lake. Checkin was easy and efficient. We were given a room in one of the buildings in back of the main building. Door of room opened directly to parking lot which we don’t like. Used a pin code to get in no key provided. Screen door was loose and deadbolt lock was removed so could not lock door from the inside. Room was large decor period historic. Chairs uncomfortable. Curtain very thin so outside light still came through very bright. Large bathroom no counter top to put our bath items on. Two small dirty rugs on floor. Walk in shower was large and easy in and out. No iron, microwave, refrigerator or safe. Internet was sporadic. Could hear people next door talk until early morning. Also traffic noise was loud. Did not sleep very good. No breakfast service available. Don’t plan on staying here again.

After we were married in Chicago, we headed up to Maxwell Mansion and Lake Geneva for a quick weekend getaway to celebrate. We stayed in Stable 4 and it was wonderful. The entire property was beautifully manicured, cleaned, and the staff was beyond friendly. I very much enjoyed being out of the downtown area but it was less than a 10 minute walk to get to everything.

We stayed in the Carriage House for two nights in April. Pros: The Mansion was perfectly located within walking distance of downtown, the Lake Geneva Path, and getting out of town. The rooms were very clean and the style was updated and trendy. The Apothecary Bar and the Speakeasy were really cool spots to grab a drink before or after dinner. There was plenty of space for secluded seating and a lot of outdoor spots for relaxing. It was very easy to check-in and check out. Cons: Lighting in the room seemed lacking. The walls are pretty thin so it is easy to hear when neighbors are around or things are going on outside. The memory foam pillows and mattresses aren't necessarily my favorite, they can be hard at times. The smart devices connected to the TV need to be set up for use. The WiFi is really hit or miss. Ways to get snacks and beverages were limited for your room, the Tack room appeared to be locked.

My wife and I stayed at the Carriage House last weekend. It was a quick weekend/birthday getaway. This was our first time at Maxwell Mansion. We chose a room at the stable house. We were looking for a fun/romantic, adults only, property not too far from home (Chicago). We were impressed in every way with the Maxwell Mansion and our 2 night stay. First, the property/ambience is simply breath-taking. Second, the staff is extremely friendly, personable, and are invested in their guests' satisfaction. Third, it is located in middle of everything you would want to be near while visiting Lake Geneva. We got to meet new proprietors (Luke and Monica) briefly during our stay, and it was clear to us they have many great plans to continue building on the legacy of such a historic property. We will definitely be back again to visit.

My husband and I stayed in the Ulysses S Grant Suite. I was impressed by the quality service from walking in the door and throughout our whole stay from the front desk staff, the bartenders, etc. Our suite was spacious, excellent historical charm, with some modern updates. Has a working fireplace, comfortable bed, neat claw foot tub and has access to walk out to a balcony in nicer weather. I was impressed by their utilization of igloos in the colder weather and with COVID. It was 40-50s the weekend we stayed with rain and wind and we were very comfortable in the igloo. Only thing I would recommend is considering small blankets to be offered to guests to use outside. If it wasn’t for the igloo and outdoor space, I do feel that the seating may have been cramped indoors this busy weekend with the outside guests coming in, but didn’t notice it at all with the ample outdoor seating available. I think this place would be perfection if they had some food offerings, since the rooms and mansion are so nice you don’t want to leave! But heard this may be in the works. The speakeasy and the apothecary were quite cool. Our drinks were excellent, bartenders were skilled. Already working on planning a trip back!
