In February I have stayed for three nights. Wonderful starting point for birding excursions. Jimmy is very helpful to find the best places and to arrange acces to private land. Meals are delicious, rooms are neat and spacious. I do recommend this place to anyone who wants to discover the rich bird life and butterfly/plant life around Memel.

We really enjoyed our stay at Mahem. The room was comfortable and clean. Dinner was fantastic (fabulous lamb shanks and delicious dessert). The owner is very helpful with advice on the very impressive birding in the area. Highly recommended.

We spend a night at Mahem Guest House, last Thursday night with a group of biking friends on our way to the Cane Rally in Pongola and had a really great stay. Jimmy our host was attentive and laid out a fantastic home cooked meal with a roaring fire. Being the only guests we were made welcome and left to ourselves to party the night away. Rooms were comfortable and there were enough blankets to keep us warm in this rather chilly part of the Free State. We will definitely stay again

We went on a bird Club long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The accommodation is spacious and en suite bathrooms are complete with a shower and bath.
Seekoevlei is a great nature reserve but the ANC led Free State government needs to up their game on the reserve and dilapidated town.
Jimmy is very helpful and the staff deliver good breakfasts and dinners.
All in all a very comfortable stay.

We had an awesome weekend in the Mahem Guest House in Memel. Went for easy and difficult MTB rides as suggested by Jimmy. Absolutely beautiful scenery, a real gem in the mountains and a nice weekend getaway.

Memel is a sad looking little town, but being near Seekoeivlei Nature reserve, is well worth a visit for bird-watchers. The guesthouse we stayed in - Mahem - is quite lovely and is set in a spacious and beautifully kept garden. We were served a fine, home-cooked meal for dinner (on order), and a healthy and full breakfast.

We were on a birding trip in the Memel area. Stayed in Mahem Guest House for two days. Rooms are spacious and sparkling clean. We had breakfast and dinner at Mahem. The food was excellent. The hosts very friendly and helpful. Jimmy knows the birding areas and gave us some good tips about the area and the roads. Will definitely stay there again when in the area.
