As we plan our next US trip my mind wanders back to the last one in September 2018. I looked at reviews for Hotel Packwood and was surprised I could not find ours. For some reason it never got posted. The word "unique" get used a lot these days, often with no justification. In the case of Hotel Packwood it is fully justified. As others have said it has a wonderful homely atmosphere , genuinely friendly owners and is about as far from a typical chain hotel as you can get.. We had a fabulous few days in Packwood and speaking personally staying here was one of the main highlights of our 2 week holiday. Sorry it has taken so long to get this review posted Marilyn , we had an unforgettable stay - it was "brilliant" ...!
Packwood is a lovely and thriving little town We met the owner and her dog 7 years ago on vacation. The inn is not fancy. It is like staying at grandma's house. Beautiful quilts on the bed. No nonsense soap, towels are not fancy. Decor is homey. In town early am and late pm, we saw an abundance of wild elk. We visited the coffee house across the street and the brewery. Small town charm. Plus, where else can you stay under $50?
Hotel Packwood was the center of town and the end of the trail when it opened in 1912. Authentic 1912 furniture and a large Lodge style living room with big screen TV and coffee service downstairs. Upstairs are two rooms with private baths, seven other small rooms share two larger baths. Very pleasant elderly hosts and their family, unpretentious but clean and different lodgings at an amazing low price.
'Loved our stay. 'Like visting your favorite aunt and uncle that you haven't seen in a long time - Marylin and David - very special people indeed. Great room, ambience, friendly town. 'Would drive through Packwood JUST to stay there again if possible. Easy access to the east side of Mt. St. Helens where the 40 year ago destruction caused by the volcanic eruption is STILL very impressive. We would love to return to the Hotel Packwood - as well as the bakery/breakfast and lunch place across the street. Wonderful stay.... Thank you Marylin and David.
The hotel rooms were lovely and clean, the owners were sweet and very helpful. Outstanding value. Felt more like staying with family than a hotel. Will definitely be returning when I pass through Packwood in the future.
