I have stayed at the mineral resort about 4 times now and I couldn't ask for much more. The hospitality was incredible, the location was panoramic, and the prices couldn't be better. My girlfriend and I have been out multiple times and plan on making multiple more trips in the future.
The folks at the mineral lake resort are extremely helpful and knowledgeable about what the fishing is like and what there is to do in the small town of Mineral. Opening weekend is a very, very busy time and they are there to please. They have a great location on the lake and I would recommend them any time. If you are looking for the Ritz this is not it. It is a very well kept and functional place.
Sorry to say that this destination was a terrible disappointment. While the grounds are well kept, the 'resort' is hardly that. It is an old property that hasn't been updated since 1970. It was a 4th of July weekend with warm temperatures (90s); there was no air conditioning making the 8 rooms intolerable to sleep or utilize at all. We brought our own fans from home (they provided just one for an 8 bedroom place). Most windows were painted shut. No screen on one of the doors so imagine that on a lake. Cost was $200 per night with a 3 might minimum; we had expected a lot more for this price point. Other issue was cost for use of boats - which had to be returned by 7pm. Any fisherman knows fish bite at dusk so again the cost of the rental ($120), the age of the boat/motor, and the silly rules did not provide the value and satisfaction one would expect. Overall, we were so disappointed that we left only one day into the three day vacation.…
This place is up there with a Brazilian slum community. It was so aweful I did not even let my family get out of the car. I had to wander around in the rain to find someone in charge. It had no host only a caretaker who lived in the rundown attached trailer park. When I demanded a refund, I was given the run around for two weeks. I had to threaten legal action to get a partial refund. Head to Ashford ten minutes away and save your family the grief.
My father took my brothers and I to Mineral Lake fishing frequently when we were young boys- that was nearly 60 years ago. I retired from the Air Force and now live in Florida. On a recent trip back home I told my brothers I wanted to go back to Mineral Lake fishing in memory of our father. I am so glad we did- what a fabulous day on the lake- it was exactly how I remembered it- gorgeous! Doreen took wonderful care of us, a terrific welcome, extremely reasonable rates for the row boats, maps of the lake, bait, and a cheerful send off. She just added to the new memories of a place nearly unchanged by time- can't wait to go back!
