The good: The building itself is pretty nice, as much of the original interior has been preserved and restored. The hosts are quite friendly and welcoming, and they get bonus points for the dining room being open (to registered guests) 24 hours. Additional points for the presence of actual (metal) flatware -- forks, spoons, knives. Comfortable beds as well. Not-so-good: Anyone in a wheelchair, or dependent on a walker or similar mobility device, would find this hotel extremely challenging. I can't speak to the dimensions of the other rooms (our experience was limited to 202), but I would say full ADA compliance is not something you should expect here. Also -- We came there in the hope of getting away from explosions (4th of July weekend), and we were not successful. If you're looking for peace and quiet on the July 4th holiday, you should look elsewhere (perhaps the Canadian border). Not the worst trip we've ever done, but far from the best.

I wish you had stopped to talk about the ADA issues with me. We have implemented many changes in our rooms based specifically on feedback from guests. It always helps to know specifics. For instance, when asked to prepare Room 202 for someone with assistive needs we usually push the beds to the left to open space on the right for the path to the bathroom. There are other things we can probably do to help compensate for the size or shape of the rooms. I'd love to hear about them. It was interesting to see how excited people were for the 4th of July. It seemed to represent a lot more than "usual".

I was on a short road trip and found a room at at the Hotel Cathlamet. I tried to book a room at the last minute but it was full. They called back a few hours later to inform me that there was a cancellation. I drove up the river from Astoria and took the ferry crossing the Columbia River. The hotel is nice, the tiny town of Cathlamet is friendly, the setting on a hill above the Columbia is picturesque and the proximity to a wildlife refuge just downstream provides a pleasant walk.

This is an old hotel built in the 1920’s which was remodeled a few years ago - inside is very clean and updated except for lobby areas which are decorated to reflect the period the hotel was built. Some of the rooms are small but well appointed and many have great views. Owner/proprietor was wonderful - she was very knowledgeable about the local area and made some excellent suggestions on where to go and what to see. Beautiful back patio has a gas fire pit, a barbecue and sitting area. Common room adjacent to breakfast room was comfortable with a piano, games and plenty of seating choices. Breakfast and snacks are available 24 hours a day - it was nice to have an ice cream treat right before bedtime. Be sure to take the ferry across the River while you are in the area.

We stayed in room 212, which we were delighted to discover looked out over the neighbor's large front-yard koi pond with huge colorful fish. Check-in was easy and fast, and the staff were very friendly. Our room had a comfortable queen bed, a couple of chairs, and a separate sitting area with a futon couch and a desk (which worked well for playing board games in the evening). This is an old, charming building, so if you've never stayed in one, don't expect it to look like a new chain hotel. The hallway floor does creak, but everything is clean and comfortable. They have a good selection of self-serve breakfast items and they leave snacks out as well. They have a common area with seats and bookshelves, and they have a breakfast area and library area with games and videos to borrow. We enjoyed our stay and would do so again.
