This is not a review of the Lodge itself, which by all accounts looks fantastic. However, due to my father being terminally ill with an aggressive cancer (diagnosed in December, perhaps only a matter of weeks left), I have recently phoned from the UK to cancel my four night stay at the lodge in February. This was to be part of a four week holiday of a lifetime around New Zealand. I can only describe the manner in which I was spoken to as abrupt and insincere. The fact that I'm about to lose my father and I'm having to postpone my planned trip of a lifetime is bad enough, without being made to feel like a time waster for cancelling. This was rather disappointing and sadly, I am now in two minds whether to stay at this lodge when I plan and re-book my holiday for Jan/Feb 2019. Chris

We stayed 3 nights at Point Veronica Lodge and it was the last stop of our 4 week tour of New Zealand. As we wanted to be out of the hustle and bustle of a very busy tourist season in Paihia we opted to stay here a few kilometres out of town, overlooking the beautiful bay from the hillside. We couldn't have been happier as we got both top class accommodation plus the sensational views we were after. John greeted us as Audrey was unwell and was kind enough to run through all our sightseeing options and also booked us into our "Hole In The Rock" tour --- at the same time serving us coffee and cake. Our room was very comfortable with a massive king sized bed and we also had the luxury of an air conditioner which turned out to be very handy as our room faced the afternoon sun and it got quite warm. John and Audrey are very organised and we put in our breakfast order each night and it was all ready to go at the time of our choosing the next morning. We spent a couple of nights sitting out on their deck, just relaxing and enjoying the harbour view until it got too dark to see. It was a good ending to a trip of a lifetime to New Zealand---we thoroughly recommend Point Veronica Lodge.

Veronica Lodge is set in a stunning locationn overlooking the bay. We had the Kiwi Room which had the benefit of double aspect windows looking out over the bay and estuary. Audrey and John 100% welcomed us into their spectacular home. Nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed it so much we extended our stay from 7 nights to 16! A car is essential ,but Paihia is only 10 mins away through superb scenary. Theres lots to do in the area , we easily filled our 16 days.

The location is a little out of town, so you do need your car to get around, but what a lovely place to stay. John and Audrey really did treat us like long lost friends and there is not a thing they wouldn't do for us. I loved sharing cheese and crackers with them on the veranda with completely stunning views.

My wife and I spent 2 weeks in New Zealand, and after we finished the Milford track, we came up to the north island and spent 4 wonderful days here. Audrey was on the front porch to welcome us into their beautiful home. We put our bags in our room and walked out onto the back porch to take in the gorgeous view. Most of the time we spent at the lodge (while not sleeping) was spent on that back porch, it was just so peaceful and beautiful. Audrey and John made some excellent suggestions for places to visit, things to see and do, and which restaurants were worth going to. Speaking of food, we were treated to the best breakfast that I have ever had at a B&B. They will cook it for you whenever you like (even got up at 5 so we could eat before we left for the airport), and will make whatever you want. I mean WHATEVER you want, and they can both cook very well. Take advantage of that. They have a garden with some amazing fruits below the back porch, and we were invited to pick as much as we liked since some of it was just about to over ripen. If the lemonade lemons are ripe, you have to try them! They were absolutely wonderful hosts, providing great conversation and company, but weren't pushy and gave us plenty of privacy to enjoy the space they provided. This was easily the best place we stayed at while in New Zealand, and we both agreed it was the best B&B we had been to in all our travels thus far. We have already recommended Point Veronica to some friends who are planning on visiting, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone else!
