We stayed here for just one night during a recent short break in the Otways. If we'd had more time, we would have been happy to extend our stay.

Blue Johanna Cottages consists of two (duplex) cottages, as well as two "B&B" rooms in the main building. I can't comment on the cottages, except to say the building looked nice, and to point out that the "cottages" are both in the same building, rather than being independent cottages in their own right. I doubt that's a concern, but it's worth mentioning if you're expecting a completely free-standing cottage to yourself.

We stayed in the "standard" B&B room; the other room has a spa bath for which we had no need. In fact, I'd say the standard room is a little more private than the spa room, since you walk past the spa room to get to the standard room.

The complex is set on a ridge and looks out to the coast and Johanna beach, which is about 5km away. It's a lovely and peaceful setting - you could sit there with a nice drink at the end of the day and be happy.

The room is simple, but has everything you need. There's an obvious attention to detail wherever you look - everything seems to be thought of. There's plenty of provisions for a nice (continental) breakfast, as well as various implements and appliances to do a little more food preparation if you want. There's fresh coffee and a plunger, a big selection of Twinings teas, juices, yoghurts, cereals, and a delicious loaf of home-baked bread (you take home what you can't eat) to mention some of the items provided. There's a TV (local channels) with a DVD player and library if you're really bored (hard to imagine, but you never know). The bathroom is simple with just the shower in the standard room. Towels, soaps, shampoo and so forth are all provided.

The complex is dog-friendly, which in fact worried us initially as we are not dog-friendly, but there was absolutely no evidence of dogs having been in the room (reading the guest book, we saw that dogs had been guests in our room) and our concerns in this regard were unfounded.

We were met by Graham, who runs the cottage together with his wife Lisda. Graham took his time to show us around and give us information about the surrounding areas, including where to eat (at Laver's Hill, a few kilometres away).

We arrived late in the afternoon and were made very welcome by our host Graham. He gave us useful information regarding the glowworms, the walks in the Otways and the best time to see the Apostles.
The cottage is a semidetached building with great character built to blend with the woodland setting. It has all the essentials to make a happy stay and is very comfortable. We felt very relaxed and happy for our two night stay.
The beach is magnificent and only a short drive away along a well kept gravel road. It has amazing rock-pool formations and beautiful white sand.

We had a great stay there! Two nights/days in a b&b suite, with every day a delicious fresh baked bread, great views to the ocean, a spacious lawn where you could sit all day, listening to Mother Nature, etc, queen-size bed,......really all was there.

We highly recommend this place! It was simply superb & will not disappoint! Just magnificent! Exceeded our expectations by far & we're already planning our next trip back! How could you not?! We stayed 2 nights & we're jammed packed with activities so we stayed a 3rd night so we could just sit & relax in the cottage without having to leave! I was so rejuvenated, relaxed, refreshed & rested by the time l left here! Our cottage was the Fern cottage, it was immaculate, great views, comfortable, had absolutely everything you will ever need during your stay, just bring your toothpaste & brush! Great location! We did the Otway zip line tour, all the waterfalls, horseriding & the cottage was right in the middle of each activity so that was just another bonus! The Lavers Hill pub up the road serves the most delicious meals ever to by the way! If your looking for great food & your not to fussed about the interior, then the pub is the place to be! Now back to the cottage: a real gem, what a beauty! Just a little peice of paradise......what more can l say about this place?! Except for thank you for sharing Graham, you were a lovely host who let us be so thank you kindly for that! And to everyone else, make this your next destination when heading to the Otways or along the Great Ocean road & your looking for a romantic getaway, l promise you'll be very happy & the property will not disappoint in any way!

We stay at Blue Johanna Cottage only for one night during our honeymoon and we slept in the b&b house! The cottage is situated in a very quiet zone near Johanna and it is completely surrounded by nature!! The host is very friendly and made us a gift for our honeymoon: a bottle of wine and chocolate!!
The room is very nice, well furinshed and warm! There is also a small table and a little kitchen so that you can have your own breakfast in the room whenever you want: there are cereals, milk, coffe, juices, jam and fresh bread!!
Very nice and confortable place!!

Blue Johanna is a bit off the main road for those travelling on Great Ocean Road. However, it is a good location as it is an hour from twelve apostles and not too far off from Apollo Bay. It is in a forest reserve area. We were allocated a cottage that was not adjacent to the reception. The cottage itself was delightful. There is a sleeping area with comfortable beds and pillows. Bathrooms are clean and nice. We had asked for a spa room and we had a jacuzzi in the bath room. Bathroom supplied are in plenty. Host Graham was waiting for us to turn up and settle us in as we were a bot like 7 30 PM getting in. There is a sitting area, a kitchen with an oven cum hot plate. Microwave is available as well. We had travelled with some food and we were able to make our dinner. There was also a fireplace, not a classical one but adequate. We went on a cold day. we were tempted to make a fire but figured out that the inverter A/C and electric blanket did the trick. Night, we had frogs making sounds but the morning was birds chirping. Delightful and fibrous home made bread was made available with plenty of butter and jams and corn flakes, eggs etc to make your own breakfast. check out was simple. Attention to detail in every little aspect made this special for us. Thanks to the Graham couple who run this place.

We visited Blue Johanna Cottages over Easter and stayed in the Spa Suite B&B. The spa was the biggest one we've come across so far, very comfy for 2 people to share. The comfortable bedroom was separated from the small kitchenette by a door, which is a feature we always like when getting away, in case one of us gets up before the other. The continental breakfast was impressive and too much for us to eat. We could have had a huge loaf of freshly baked bread every day (we just had one white, which was delicious, although don't usually eat white bread - they also do sourdough and German). They provided 6 fresh eggs daily, plus a big packet of bacon (which we don't eat), yoghurt, fruit, oats, cornflakes, wheetbix, real coffee, juice, selection of teas, hot chocolate, fresh milk,(they also provide soy milk on demand), butter, selection of jams, honey and peanut butter and noodle pots. And since it was Easter, they threw in a large box of chocolates and hot cross buns. There is a large, very clean BBQ out the back with beautiful seaside views from the deck, which made for a lovely place to have our breakfast one sunny morning. Since we are with Optus, we had no phone or internet connection, but if you want to get away from it all for a few days, this is perfect. Apollo Bay is a pleasant 35 minute drive away and Blue Johanna beach is 5 km down the road. I would highly recommend to anyone who is seeking a quiet getaway with lovely hosts and peaceful surroundings.

My wife and I stayed here for one night during a road trip along the Great Ocean Road in late January 2017. The cottages are ideally situated close to The Twelve Apostles and other Ocean Road attractions as well as the town of Apollo Bay. Johanna is known as the village where the sea meets the forest and the Blue Johanna Cottages over the ideal location to explore both; a short drive down the hill and you have an beautiful empty beech from where to watch the sunset. A20 minute drive up the hill and you are in the heart of ancient woodland. We received a very friendly reception and lots of great advice on the area from Graham the owner. The cottage we stayed in offered a beautiful double bed with lounge area and modest kitchenette along with an excellent shower/bathroom. Graham provides a breakfast basket at extra cost which includes his home baked bread - well worth the investment. It is such a peaceful environment that you cannot fail to relax and sleep well. My wife and I agreed that in nearly six weeks in Australasia this was the best place we stayed.
