Traveling to the area to hike old rag. Phil, the proprietor, was very friendly and a lot of fun to talk too. His breakfast was amazing. We stayed in the summer cottage and even though the night time temp was around 2 degrees the cottage stayed warm. Everything was clean and comfortable. Highly recommend Caledonia oak Farm. Thank you Phil for a wonderful time!!!

Before arriving the owner, Phil, suggested we leave Washington DC early because of bad traffic on friday night. Too bad we couldn't leave early so didn't dine at a place he kindly suggested.

Upon arrival, later them expected -traffic was indeed bad- Phil was sad we missed we missed the welcoming ceremony and so were we. Tired from driving he showed us our rooms, one adjacend to the main building. The rooms were had all basic needs and were clean. The interior takes you back to the history of this old farm which was great.

Breakfast, melon, an omelet and some really nice cake was tasteful. Phil really makes it a great experience serving breakfast at candlelight and adding a glass of cider made it just perfect.

He then joined us to tell us all about the region and we shared stories about where we came from.

We wish Phil all the best and look back on a peaceful stay with great hospitality.

We needed to stay near the Inn at Little Washington where we were to celebrate our anniversary and my 70th. Just two lefts and 4 miles away was this gem of a B&B which proved to be a great choice. Phil the proprietor was a wealth of knowledge about the entire area, where to go and what to do. Unfortunately we had to scoot home to Maryland the next day. Next time.
The building is of 1812 and very interesting. Our rooms were comfortable and welcoming! Our favorite would be the out building. The breakfast the next day was tasty and served by candlelight! The conversation was top level, Phil has been traveler with the Voice of America and had many interesting and informative stories. Worth the trip alone.

We stayed at Caledonia farms for our 35th wedding anniversary. The farm was beautiful and we were given the summer kitchen dependency which was nice and private. We enjoyed the farm and Phil's Hospitality. He was very knowledgeable about the area and it we enjoyed talking to him about local history, local restaurants, bars and stores. We enjoyed the rooms, the bedroom was very comfortable, the living room downstairs however had a really saggy couch and there was no Television, Internet or cell phone service in the summer Cottage. As much as we enjoyed being at the farm we missed having those modern conveniences. It was very nice stay and Phil was an excellent host and cook.

Unsolicited reviews with kind observations are appreciated. Free TV and internet are always provided in our manor house but adequate cell service is not available here in the mountains. Most of our guests are taking a break from today's intrusive technology and into enjoying our permanently preserved unspoiled natural environment

My husband stayed here for three nights, located in Flint Hill, VA, population 85.

Pros: Picturesque, bucolic setting on 300+ acres of rolling meadows with black angus, ducks, bluebirds and other bird life. Within 12 miles of Skyline Drive and Luray Caverns and close to the Inn at Little Washington.

The price seemed reasonable for the area and our indoor space was air conditioned.

Our accommodations were very clean.

Our host was eager to make dinner reservations although none were needed (slow season). We did enjoy his recommendation for the Thornton River Grille.

Phil, the proprietor, an old railroad enthusiast, originally from NY State's claim to fame is to have visited over 300 B&Bs and is an active part of the national association.

Cons: We were assigned the attached, separate stone house, very historic with private entrance. The couch furnishings were "tired". It included a micro and little refrig, but no plasticware. One set of towels for each of us, frayed at the ends. Thin, polyester sheets and "weary" pillows. A room inside the home would have been preferred because the entrance to our "cottage" passed by huge boxwood shrubs with a gagging scent of cat urine (outside cat).

Wi-fi was extremely limited.

There were fishing poles but, unless you know in advance to bring flies, not an option.

There are two bikes, but they haven't been ridden in a long time; the tires look rotted.

Breakfast found us in a hot little corner (but with a lovely view). Phil learned a lot from visiting other B&Bs. Our breakfast was garnished with a half strawberry and a paper thin slice of kiwi. My omelette was burned, the coffee was strong (instant?). Second morning I requested to skip the eggs and asked for two slices of cantaloupe instead of one. I was told there was no more.

For me, I prefer spending my money with someone whose politics are liberal.

Caledonia Farm-1812 has been visited five times again by a very liberal US Senator. Therefore I suggest that this review would have been five stars had political conversation not have been introduced by extremist guests. Politics and religion are not among appropriate topics for discussion here
