The bush lodge was a great experience. Very quiet, very private, very lushes and green, all you hear are birds. The rock pulls at the end of the 5k hike were somewhat disappointing, but the hike itself was a great experience. Very accommodating in terms of what is supplied to the guests, kitchen-wise, bathroom-wise, towels, etc. Overall, great experience.

Hi Mathew, Thank you for your kind review, I am thankful you enjoyed the privacy and views that the Bush Lodge offers. The hikes through the Magaliesburg mountain veld certainly offer good sightings, especially at this time of year. Thank you for staying and we hope to see you back with us later in the year. Kind Regards, Giles

We stayed here for 4 nights and had a lovely time. It is very secluded and beautiful. Highly recommended. It was great to have a swimming pool which kept our child busy. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment, incl a gas stove and oven, and the water out the tap is pure and perfect for drinking, coming straight from a spring out the mountain.

Hi Geoff, It was so nice meeting your family and such a pleasure hosting you in the Mountain Lodge. We are indeed fortunate to have a pure water fountain providing water as nature intended. We are so pleased you enjoyed the stay with us and hope that you will be able to return soon. With best wishes from Giles Nikki and the Mamagalie team.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay at Mamagalie. It's the perfect place to relax and unwind!

My favorite part was the outdoor shower at the bushlodge. Despite the cold August winds, it was such a treat!

The room does get very chilly at night, but we had extra blankets and hot water bottles provided by Giles.

It was still to cold to have a dip in the rock pool, but we will definitely be back in summer to try it out!

We spotted some animals, and had the opportunity (without all the light pollution back in JHB) to stargaze, which was breathtaking.

Thanks for the beautiful stay, Giles!

The place is absolutely perfect.
But the people have absolutely no people skills.
So we arange booking in time to be after 3:00pm as we cannot book in before then becuase you will be paying about R170 extra pp.
So we were almost there, the trafic is a big factor if you driving all the way from JHB, that is another reason why we would have love to cheked in 2hours earlier.
The lady phoned me and ask me were are you I'm late for what ever reason. Not my problem at all as a guest is it? Nope.
Remember I'm your guest I dont oww you any damn thing.
Once stoped she pulled open my door as if I'm a child.
Again not my problem if you are late for anything I'm the guest.
So she go through everything with us rushing.
Once in the room she told us she painted the cubbordthe same morning. Paint in a room smells abit and it gave us such a headache.
We couldn't really sleep becuase of a rat in the roof. The thing was running around like crazy.
We didn't get back our key deposit in cash as she wanted it in cash.
We were forced to clean the place and wash our dishes before checking out if that was not done we would loose the key deposit.
So we were braaing ribs on the friday and when I opened the bag some of the marinate spilled on the table cloth I washed it out to the best of my ability.
I recieved a WhatsApp message on a sunday night to replace the R500 table cloth. I cannot see that it was the price at all but surely they must have a back up for things like these. Not taking just money and fining people for every little small thing.
I did not receive my R200 deposit and now I need to buy a table cloth for R500 ontop of that, surely i will not pay that for a table cloth.
I have never in my life came across anything like this. I did nothing to harm the place I spilled sause by accident. Accidents do happen. I would have replace it by all means if I burned the thing but a stain?
You get fined for this and fined for that. This is absolutely no way to handle a place like this. I'm sure if your nose bleed for any reason you need to replace the whole bed maybe not sure so I'm happy atleast that did not happen phew........... Blood stain vs Marinate stain🤷‍♀️.......

Dear Adrie Blom, Thank you for your comments which sadly do not reflect what we at Mamagalie Lodge stand for. However in 16 years of operation yours is the second terrible review we have had so by and large you are fortunately the exception. Prior to arrival you received a comprehensive check in letter over and above the details supplied when you made the reservation, this clearly states arrival and departure times, additional cleaning costs as well as additional costs for early check in and late departures. As farmers we are very busy people and need to try and plan our days with the best possible timing we can, to this end one of the requests we make is an estimated arrival time which you gave as 15h00 because you were not prepared to pay the early arrival fee. Your actual arrival time was some 2 hours after that, it is only common courtesy to advise if you are running late for an appointment and regrettably you chose not do do this. Melanie did hold the door open for you on arrival, the car port is on a slight incline and sometimes the car door can close back onto unsuspecting guests, this is manners rather than any perceived attitude. The R200 cash key deposit is clearly specified at booking and in the check in letter, on top of this the cleaning fees are very clearly laid out as some people choose to use the service and others not. The paint used on the cupboards is a chalk paint, this particular paint is odour free and non toxic so I suspect your headache was caused by something else, there is indeed a Nagapie/bush baby that lives in the roof but most of our guests find this rather appealing. Whilst I accept that spilling the rib sauce was entirely accidental, the terms and conditions, again clearly laid out at booking and check in, state that guests are responsible for any damages incurred during their stay, the sauce was still caked on when it was removed from the table and had definitely not been soaked. Yes, we have had guests who have left blood stains but to a fault they have all requested we deduct the key deposit for the additional cleaning required, so we rely more on the integrity of the guests in these cases. I am sorry that your stay was not what you expected and sad that you will not be able to experience the hospitality we are renowned for in the future. Kind Regards, Giles

Long dirt road to reach the place. The cottage we stayed in did not feel secluded and private and was situated close to all the old run down farm buildings. The furniture was a bit outdated and tacky. Proper cutlery was not provided for no butter knives only stake knives. The amenities were cheap 1 ply toilet paper in a 4 star place ? The dish washing sponge was so thin I had to fold it over a few times to be able to wash the plates. The dustbin was located right on top of the dining area. The outside pool was dirty I did not even get in. I asked for a bag of wood and it was a 2 day task for the hosts to organise. Honestly I feel that all these little issues ruined the romantic getaway that i had hoped for and I was not impressed and will not return. I felt like leaving on the first night and going somewhere else. Money not well spent.

Although I must compliment the lodge on the quality of the bed and linen as well as the view from the front of the cottage.

Hi Bailey, I am sorry your stay in Serenity Lodge did not live up to expectations, to the best of my knowledge we do not advertise as 4 star as we left the TGC several years ago. Regrettably where a septic tank is used for waste water 2 ply paper is not an option. Where wood is requested after arrival we may be unable to deliver at all as we generally tie that in with the cleaning staff prior to arrival, however it would have been delivered the day after arrival as your was only a 2 night stay. The plunge pool is normally refilled after each stay and if this was not done then I must apologise, as to the old building, they are the old storage barns and form part of the heritage of the farm, as no one lives there I am somewhat baffled as to how they took away your seclusion? We have been running a midweek special for some time to assist local travellers with affordable accommodation and I am confident that the rate you received was indeed value for money and certainly, I am unable to find comparative accommodation at even double your rate of R450 pppn. I wish you the best for the upcoming season and a slightly more positive 2021. Kind Regards, Giles

Very nice place for some peace and quiet. Road toward the lodge does indeed require a car with some height.

The owners did put in effort for security, but I personnally did not like the electric fence setup. You have to switch off the electric fence to be able to open the front gate. This setup in itself seemed a bit dangerous. So just be careful.

The lodge has everything you need for a few days stay. There are a few things to look out for in the lodge. The bedroom floor is extremely slippery and the carpets slide easily. You will wake up with the birds with the skylight right above your head. We would have like to be able to keep the room a bit darker in the morning, but it is also quite beautiful seeing the trees in the morning sun. We would also have loved to see some photos and more information of the reserve itself instead of Kruger National Park.

All in all, a very pleasant trip for us and highly recommended if you want a break from city life.

Hi Meinder, Thanks for your feedback, the roads are generally not suitable for cars with a very low profile as we need to build humps in the road to run the water off, they are however done in sand so even if the car scrapes slightly on the bottom it should not cause any damage. The electric fence is obviously to help keep animals out as well as a security measure, regrettably it does not make sense to be able to open the gate with the fence on as it would result in a spot that is easy to breach. I have noted the laminate floors and will see if we can make a plan to keep the carpets more secure. I am glad you enjoyed your stay in the Forest Lodge and we wish you a wonderful year ahead and look forward to seeing you again. Best wishes, Giles

space is stunning, clean and so tranquil. you may need a 4x4 to get to the room, however, once you get there it is worth it. it is a farm, we did find a few spiders, but overall the experience was amazing. it is quiet and you can rest. loved it, would go again

Hi there, I can't pick up which unit you were in but the roads are definitely passable to most sedans. We do pride ourselves in the privacy peace and quiet you experience with us. Being so deep in the bush we do get the creepy crawlies that live there but in general they are harmless. Very glad that your experience was a good one and we look forward to seeing you again. Tranquility Lodge is a place one has to go and experience personally. it is tranquil, romantic, private and unique. It is built into a tree canopy, surrounded by glass windows, with a double spa bath inside, and shower outside. It is something 'out of this world'! No better place to rest, relax and unwind! We even got to see giraffe! What a treat! Thank you Melanie & Giles for sharing this special spot in the mountains with us. We will definitely be back .

My husband and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on 03/02/2020 and, at short notice, decided that we wanted to get away for a night or two. Doing a Google search, we came across Mamagalie Lodge. Unfortunately, all the lodges on the farm were fully booked except for the Bush Lodge. We decided to book the Bush Lodge for 2 nights and were so impressed that we will definitely be back. What an amazing break away. Giles and his team are also wonderful hosts and for anyone who wants to get away for a bush break, I highly recommend Mamagalie Lodge

I don't even know where to start. We wished we could have stayed longer, everything was organized starting from the kitchen there's all sorts of items one might need. Our stay at Mamagalie (Mountain Lodge) was pleasant, the service was magnificent Niki and Giles are so friendly and sweet.. We were there from the 2nd Sep till the 4th and we are definitely coming back in December for Tranquility. If you are looking for a couple getaway then this is the place you won't regret.
