We had the most lovely and affordable! Stay at Hotel Les Balcons over New Year 2019/2020. We booked through Sunweb and spent approximately 600BGP for three nights accommodation, half board, a ski locker, access to pools and sauna as well as ski gear hire and life passes! Besides the snow, ski field, village and weather being perfect the Hotel it's self surpassed all expectations.

Our room was warm, dry, had an amazing view of the mountains, a comfortable bed, good pressure shower and bath with jets! Perfect after a day's skiing. The Half board was the best bit as we were blown away by the three course menu and breakfast spread! On New Years night we were treated to balloons, party hats and a 5 course menu.

All of the staff (sorry i don't remember names now) were so lovely, engaging, helpful and fun!

We want to come back!

Another very good stay here. Second time.
Good points: fantastic location, skiing in at the end of a day skiing or being able to pop back during the day is just brilliant. End of Arpette run where hotel is located to Plagne Bellecote is quite steep for a blue so just be aware of this if true beginners in group, there are alternative ways down (but less convenient!).
Rooms are quite small but very warm, lovely balcony with fantastic views, beds are extremely comfortable. Hooks over radiator means everything drys overnight. Bath / shower with jacuzzi jets, plenty of hot water.
Reception staff arefriendly and helpful.
Not 5 star because:
Dinner service is super slow . Takes a good couple of hours from being seated to finishing. Waiting staff look harassed and one of them was just grumpy, no smiles and felt we were inconveniencing her by asking for anything. Food is good, highly recommend the specials.
Breakfasts could be better, no variety at all from day to day and only a small offering of fresh fruit on a couple of the days, an empty fruit bowl otherwise. But plenty of everything else available.
Locker room is very cramped and only one seat for putting on / off boots. Individual lockers good and heated. All in all a good place to stay and the skiing in La Plagne is fantastic.

Generally the hotel was good. The reception staff were amazing and could not be more helpful. The breakfast selection was very small considering how much you pay for the rooms. If you arrive late you will miss out as the items don't seem to get replaced. There was always mess everywhere it wasn't the tidiest of eating areas. One of the staff members was kind enough at breakfast but was always messy appearance and looked like he had just rolled out of bed. The other chap with longer hair was just plain rude, spoke to us like we were children coming off the street not guests of a very expensive hotel and spa! Deciding to argue with me about a sandwich one morning in reception. The spa staff member was also disgusting, his attitude was revolting, rolling his eyes and tutting at us. Watching us like school children to ensure we showered before entering the pool. We watched him do this with every guest not just us. The room we had was very nice though, although they did "make up" the room every day they didn't replace loo rolls so we ran out of this one morning. The food in the restaurant for dinner was sub standard too, risotto was not nice, it was chewy and undercooked. The steak I had was very fatty and half inedible. One general notice around every part of the SPA and Hotel was A4 bits of paper taped everywhere for lots and lots and lots of Signs telling you what you can do and can't do. Around the hot tub in the spa was around 10 posters of strict rules saying what you can and can't do. One morning the coffee machine had no milk so they just put paper on the buttons with highlighter. Just all looks really rubbish and un professional. We paid ALOT of money for bed and breakfast and expected alot more.

We stayed at Hotel les Balcons with a large group of family and friends. The rooms were large with plenty of storage and well equipped with kettles and fridges; the bathrooms were spacious with the bonus of jacuzzi baths and plenty of hot water. Restaurant and reception staff were really friendly and kind, going out of their way to accommodate our large group of 16. The food was good. Other reviewers have mentioned slow service and poor choice at breakfast but we feel that this is unfair. Service was certainly “leisurely” at times and some nights were slower than others but this is not unusual for France and the buffet breakfast choices were perfect adequate/generous- cereals, cold meats & cheeses, scrambled eggs, pastries, yoghurts etc. Chloe and Jason the hard working waiting staff were always cheerful and did their best to serve us quickly despite the restaurant seeming a little understaffed. There was an issue one morning when a member of staff didn’t turn and breakfast wasn’t ready for which the hotel apologised with free nibbles and aperitifs that evening. Crystal also compensated us with free lunchtime pizza at the restaurant next door. All in all it was an excellent hotel with our only reservations being the cramped boot room and lack of vegetarian/vegan choices on the evening menu. That wouldn’t stop us returning though. In terms of ski accommodation and location, it was one of the best places we’ve stayed in the French Alps.

breakfast not substantial for a day on the slopes, cereals run out and not replaced.
ski locker area has no benches for putting on ski boots other than a single seat for over 40 rooms.
dinner in he evening the same menu every night and service is shocking with no first sat first order placed but left waiting 40 mins before even being asked what you want off the menu, people were resorting to playing cards and games whilst waiting for food not good when you are hungry after a hard day on the slopes and a pitiful breakfast..they run out of the basics like cheese and garlic bread when this is the capital of the garlic and cheese eating countries.
waitresses rude and not friendly. waiting for a drink from the tiny bar takes way too long and there is not even a queue.
rooms ample , hot water and warm . beds are comfortable. in room safe and fridge,
other than the breakfast and dinner issues that need to be improved an average basic hotel in a good location. also as long as you dont want to have to clean your room yourself dont expect it to be done before 4pm.

Good evening, We are sorry to read you had a bad experience with the restaurant. Half board does mean you can eat every evening at the restaurant for reduced prices, that's why you only have a selection of dishes. Please be sure we will take into account your comments in order to improve the quality of our service. As for the benches in the ski area, we do have benches on the first floor, we are sorry you missed them. We hope you still enjoyed your stay with us. We wish you a pleaseant evening, Best regards, Les Balcons Team

On previous visits to La Plagne we had stayed at the Terra Nova but after a poor experience decided to try Les Balcons and we are so pleased we did. It is difficult to say anything negative about the hotel. We arrived late in the evening and were met by a very friendly person on reception whose English was excellent. That was a common theme with all of the staff very friendly and with good English. The bedrooms are nice, very warm and with lots of storage space, our 2 rooms looked out over the Arpette run, great for people watching. The hotel was great for ski in, ski out although the first run down in the morning is the steepest part of the Arpette run but easily manageable. The ski storage is great, big lockers that are locked using your room key so no need for padlocks etc. The breakfast buffet is what you would typically expect, lots of choice with cereals, pastries, fruit, meats and cheeses as well as scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is due to the evening meal. The quality of the food is excellent with plenty of choice however it could be a really slow affair. It isn’t unusual to be sat for 30 minutes without even being asked for a drink choice and it is not uncommon to still be sat there 2 1/2 hours later. Maybe it’s a British thing that we expect to be served quicker but it did frustrate us. My view is that the hotel is understaffed in that area. It did not detract from the holiday though (the constant snow for the last 2 days after 4 days of blue sky skiing did though) and I expect that we will come back to this hotel again.

The good points about this hotel are the staff. Jeff in the restaurent looked after her guests really well, and she seemed to be training new staff who worked really hard. I have never stayed in a hotel where you could choose anything off the menu, and the choices made were well cooked and nicely presented. We had the best pastries at breakfast, and enough choice to set you up for the morning. There is a lounge area with a pool table that seemed to be little used. The addition of a bar would be welcome as the only area to get a drink is small and in the restaurent area. I liked the room, cosy with a great view of the mountain. Thank you to the housekeeping team who popped in every day and kept us tidy and well supplied with tea, coffee and loo roll etc. The only downside for me was the ski in/out on a steep section of the blue run Arpette. It was icy first thing, always busy but not a problem if you are a confident skier. I'm not so for me this wasn't ideal, certainly a challenge for a beginner. The hotel could also make the area in and out of the building safer, you had to negotiate an icy mound - not ideal in boots. I did swim in the hotel pool, was an easy find, nice changing area and not busy at 10am when it opened. Only a small pool but nice for a quick dip. Try the Magic Pool in Bellecote, it was so lovely to swim outside. Had a very pleasant stay but really missed an outside terrace with views and a bar area to get a drink. If you like pre-dinner cocktail, Happy Hour is good in the pub next door by the ski shop. You'll be well looked after at this hotel, the team are great :).

Stayed here over Feb half term with my family. Rooms are great and lovely and warm . Food was brilliant; good selection of breakfast items for the days ahead and evening meals were lovely ( big portions too). Staff were great , especially Jason & Chloe. Boot room fine to put skis and boots in. A small seat in boot room, but there is a large bench outside hotel reception area & if you go down a floor near the boot room, there are several other benches there to put your boots on. Ski slopes accessible on 3rd floor & -1 floor & I think people who have said there are no benches to sit on, didn’t go to -1 floor. Pool table in lounge area with plenty of seating.
Access onto slope is via the Arpette Piste. The Piste from the hotel down to Bellecote is a blue slope. The slope itself is very wide & great to ski down. People who have never skied before or only skied once or twice and don’t feel confident on a blue run, I recommend getting the gondala down to Bellecote( 3 min walk from hotel ) . With fresh snow on this slope anyone could ski it, but with compact hard snow in a morning (till about 9.30am) I would say it’s not for a beginner of any age.
Loads of shops , restaurants & cafes at mid station point in Belle Plagne & in Bellecote. You can use the cable cars down to Bellecote at night too which again is lovely to do. Loads of restaurants, bars, shops etc too down there.
We will return to Les Balcons Hotel again. It’s our 3rd time to La Plagne and we love it !! Will ski La Plagne again very soon.

We returned to the Balcons for a second year as we enjoyed our stay so much last year.

Location is fantastic ski to door, rooms are a bit old and tired but perfectly adequate, guess for the rooms are great.

We arrived late this year and appreciated having food available when we arrived.

The only disappointment for us in our stay was the evening restaurant experience, food and service.

My wife is lactose intolerant and that makes food choice difficult for her and some alternative options were available to her last year but this year it seemed like only the strict menu items would be served.

Non dairy milk was available at breakfast.

Crispy chicken salad dishes were good especially having the large portion option to make it a main meal. I found the savoyard salad very disappointing however.

One evening she had the Dal curry, it was served with lentils which were hard and half cooked, some vegetables on top with no hint of curry flavour at all. On another she had the salmon, the dish was soaked in soy sauce so much it was very very salty and almost inedible.

We had the Pierrade Royale one evening which was a very good cook it yourself meal.

I found the pork and burger dishes tasty.

Service at the table was certainly not nearly as good as last year.

Yes, kettle and cups and a selection of tea/coffee. I always take tea bags with me though, - more like home!

I would not recommend belle plagne for young children needing buggies or disabled persons. It is a nightmare with all the steps and different levels. The paths are not overly wide so no good for big buggies. Go with the main plagne centre as it’s much easier to navigate.

The hotel places are often reserved by travel operators so you cannot book. Try ringing the hotel direct. Good luck.
