The hotel is perfectly situated for ski in and ski out enjoyment of the extensive La Plagne ski area. However there are good things and bad to discuss. First of all I must emphasise that the staff here are lovely and nothing is too much trouble for them. Our waitress in the restaurant was really good and the manager very helpful.
The biggest problem really is the size of the rooms. We booked for three adults, to include our 18 yo son, and the room wasn’t big enough to swing a cat. We ended up paying £500 to upgrade and even then the usable space was less than an average 3* in Austria, for example. If you are visiting with children I really recommend paying for a suite. The en suite bathroom is tiny, with no space for hanging anything
The restaurant and bar areas are comfortable and well decorated in mountain style. The boot room is spacious with drying racks for the boots.
The closeness to the piste unfortunately means that you are a ten minute uphill walk to the shops and bars of Belle Plagne, not ideal for collecting and returning skis and/or boots.
Dinner in the restaurant has two choices and the food is typical french haute cuisine, perfect for us but a nightmare for our fussy son. Alternatives were limited and offered reluctantly. We really enjoyed the food though and although there are some very expensive wines on the menu, we found really good quality at their mid range (about €35).

Thank you for your message Mr Walker, we appreciate all comments and reviews. Firstly I would like to mention that you booked a holiday via Inghams and not directly, when we received the booking I personally contacted the Inghams booking office to mention that having 3 adults in the allocated standard triple room would not be advisable. However we did not receive any further information to modify your booking. Luckily we were able to find a solution within 2 hours of your complaint about the room and to upgrade you to a family room with a mezzanine, even though it was one of our busiest weeks of the season. Regarding the ski hire, once again if you reserved directly with us we could have offered you a partner service with ELPRO who provide a navette to collect and drop you off with your equipment and even come and collect your equipment at the end of your stay. Finally about the Finally about food options, I agree the evening menu is fine dining but I am surprised that you felt that other options we're not willingly offered for your son. We appreciate this suggestion and we will be sure to improve this service for our future guests. We hope you return to our hotel again in the future and feel to contact us directly next time. Kind regards Olivia Reservations and Reception Manager

Great location, lovely friendly staff, ski in/out but sadly the chef refused to provide vegetarian meals. On arrival the receptionist confidently assured me that the chef was aware and enjoyed providing interesting veggie options however the reality was the complete opposite. The chef clearly had no intention of making my dining experience in his restaurant a pleasant one. I was given for 2 nights in a row nothing but a bowl of plain vegetables and after flagging that this simply was not acceptable my meals were then subsequently: one poached egg with vegetables; dry pasta and vegetables; an omelette (hurrah!) and finally on my last evening a bowl of boiled rice with peas. My non-vegetarian friend had lovely delicious choices. If vegetarianism is such a travesty for this chef then the hotel should make that plain and we could have either chosen to book on a B&B basis or stay somewhere else. A really disappointing and miserable experience.

Hello Holly hols Thank you for your message, we appreciate all feedback from our guests. I am really disappointed that you felt your experience was “miserable”,I remember speaking to you on a daily basis and your comments being very positive of the hotel and even mentioning how it was “the best ski holiday you’ve had!” Following our conversation after your second day where by you mentioned that you were eating only vegetables, I was under the impression that for the remainder of your stay you were pleased with the food, as I had followed up your comments with the restaurant manager and chef and I when I asked you the next day you assured me that everything was great! We do apologise if you felt as though vegetarians or any other eating preference is not welcome at the Hotel, this was never our intention or even our ethos. Your comments will defiantly be passed onto the restaurant staff and the chef to ensure that other customers do not feel the same. We hope that you do return once again to Hotel Carlina **** Belle Plagne as you mentioned you would, to allow us to provide an equally high standard of meals for all vegetarians Thank you once again for your feedback Kind regards The Management

The hotel is literally 3-5 meters from the snow so ski in/ski out was not a problem, it s situated half way down a blue run.

Our room was number 303 with a view over the slopes and s high enough to enjoy the sunshine in the afternoon.

The room was a superior room with king size bed, separate toilet & bathroom. There is a bath with a shower over it so perfect.

Digital TV in the room with mainly French & German channels but this wasn’t a problem as we were watching the Winter Olympics.

There is loads of cupboard space with bedside tables to put your bits.

The balcony was very large with 2 chairs to relax on.

Our room was cleaned every day while we were out skiing.

You are allocated a locker for your ski’s in the ski room next to the slopes within the hotel.

There is a pool, jacuzzi, sauna & steam room for you to use after your day which was a perfect way to relax & also mix/chat with other guests.

VEGETARIANS ARE WELCOME. I have read on here the vegi’s are not welcome. This could not be further from the truth ( I’m our case). We explained to Olivia the manager that the menu offered was not what we would eat so she said “ no problem let’s talk about what you would eat and speak to the chef”

The food we received was unbelievable.. the chef created dishes that were so tasty & the presentation was delicious. The chef clearly takes pride in his work and every meal showed it.

The staff were so helpful and nothing was any trouble. They made you feel so welcome & chatted to you whenever they saw you asking if you were ok.

The hotel was perfect and the staff made it feel special. THANK YOU to Olivia and all the team for making our holiday so good.

We will be back ⛷ 🎿

We stayed for 5 nights half board. Location is great for skiing (ski-in ski-out) as the hotel is on the side of a slope near the bottom of the ski resort. Though the main highlight was the exceptional restaurant and bar staff managed by Julien. They were all extremely friendly and attentive. The half board is a must. It’s great value for money, the food is great, and there aren’t many restaurant choices around the area to access on foot. Will definitely consider staying here again in the future.

The hotel is located on the blue run heading down into Plagne Bellecote which provides access to all areas of the La Plagne area., although it may not be suitable for complete beginers. The room was larger than expected and have a good view over the slope. The toiletries in the bathroom were surprisingly plentiful and replenished throughout the stay. The food was very well cooked, good breakfasts with the option to order eggs if required. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Would book again

An alpine hotel with a great sunny terrace on a ski slope with great food and staff.
Situation is ideal. The chef and his team (great desert maker) are excellent. Dinners are worth Michelin guide and a star. Lunches are excellent quality. Staff does everything to please the customer and attend to requests. The bartender is also worth the stay. Staff at the reception is efficient, flexible and attentive. So is the staff of the spa. Due to Covid measures, the hammam was closed. The sauna is very good but guests should be asked to be quiet in the sauna. The indoor small pool is kept very clean. The spa also has a jacuzzi (not tried this year) and offers a card of massages and skin/body care. Ourroom was on the top floor, had a great view with a sunny terrace. The bathroom had a tub with a shower and may benefit from some refurbishing to offer a walk-in shower instead of a tub. Covered Parking is available under the hotel (a bit pricy but less than outside the hotel) (could be complimentary)

Overall, this is a lovely hotel with character and charm. Ski out is onto a blue run which can get very busy and 'chopped up' so not good for beginners. The food is excellent but with high end hotels the quantity is lacking, so if you like a 'hearty' meal after a days skiing you will be going to bed hungry. The pool is much smaller than it appears in photos so just a large plunge pool. The 'hot' tub is only warm at best and is a waste of time. These are the only negative points. Otherwise the staff are very pleasant and polite and it is a lovely hotel in a lovely quiet spot.

We stayed in Residence 3 in February - our first time staying in Belle Plagne and our first skiing holiday in 3 years!

Prior to arriving the hotel (linked) could not have been more helpful and our booking and arrangements were made easily.

On arrival we were made to feel very welcome with all staff being super friendly.

Our apartment was beautiful and very clean - and big by French standards.

The Residence is directly on the slopes and you have an allocated drying boot room for all your ski equipment. You have use of the hotels Spa and pool, as well as access to events in the hotel, yoga, music, bar, restaurant.

Throughout the week, the hotel and all staff members were so helpful and we had just an amazing time.

We had some drinks in the bar which was really relaxing, the food looked amazing too although we didn’t have a chance to eat in the hotel.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend, and would go back in a heartbeat!

We stayed at hotel Carlina for a week at the start of april. After booking and reading reviews we had high hopes and whilst there were some positives about the hotel, there were a few things that didn’t live up to expectations.

Positives - lovely building, ski in and ski out, good location and nice rooms with everything you need. The resort has great skiing too!

Negatives - food and restaurant staff.

Breakfast quality was good. However the half board dinner food is definitely ‘quirky’ as other reviews have described. We aren’t fussy eaters, but this is more the fine dining type which isn’t what you would expect after a days skiing. One night my husband literally had a bit of fish and some vegetables which wasn’t satisfying or filling. As someone who didn’t have any dietary requirements, I often left a lot of my food and went to bed hungry.

My partner has a dairy intolerance and despite informing the hotel of this before we arrived, we were met on the first night with limited options and feeling like he was an inconvenience. One waiter said that he would speak to the chef so that they could offer him better options moving forward however that didn’t really happen and again most nights had to remind them again of his intolerance. There was even a time the chef said he couldn’t have something and it was bought out a few minutes later, claiming he could and another time where they gave him an omelette that he asked for dairy free and was told after that it had dairy in. If you have any intolerance or allergy I wouldn’t recommend this place, it’s a stressful experience and you are often left wondering if what they are saying is in the food is right, which isn’t a stress you need on holiday. All of our trips to the restaurant were often filled with dread.

It’s worth mentioning that Jules in the restaurant was the most helpful member of staff we encountered, he couldn’t do enough.
He could do with showing a few other team members how it’s done. The shorter, short haired lady in breakfast was particularly rude and abrupt.

They also did not do any cake in the afternoon which I have never encountered in a chalet in the French alps - a small thing, but adds to the experience all the same.

We were looking to return next year with our family and friends, however due to the food/restaurant staff experience we will likely now look elsewhere.

Thee are many advantages in the hotel: location, overall traditional chalet style, wellness area, two restaurants with both elegant and traditional cuisines, afternoon cakes, free shuttle bus etc.
There are some drawbacks, too, e.g. small rooms, screeching doors, worn out staircases. In our duplex room for 2+2 at 1000€ per night there were neither sofa or chair to sit nor minifridge
Yet overall we have enjoyed it

We have young children, can you walk to restaurants and ski lift easily?
Answer from Aguernsey
Guernsey, United Kingdom32 contributions38 helpful votes
I think it would depend on how mobile your children are. There’s a 10 minute uphill walk to the restaurants. You can ski to the nearest ski lift, however, if you are trying to access the ski school in Belle Plagne you need to either be prepared to walk uphill with the skis or take an extra half hour beforehand to ski down then get lift up to get to the ski school. There might be a courtesy shuttle up the hill. Worth asking if you’re interested.

Hi, Is this hotel suitable for beginners? How easy is the blue slope it is situated on? Thanks
Belle Plagne, France
Hello, thank you for your message. The blue piste which runs right next to the hotel and is accessible from the hotel terrace (so no long walks in ski boots) is a 'nice' blue. The section from the hotel downwards toward Bellecôte is very comfortable and easy the top section coming from the Center of Belle Plagne is little more steep but nothing more than a average blue piste. If in doubt the hotel offers its guests a courtesy navette to Belle Plagne if you would prefer to start the week of on the greens :-) We hope this helps ! Thanks
