ok, so the decor is sort of modern 1970's rodeo. its not for everyone but the velvety robe is so luxurious i bought one. i like the location, the food is alright, the staff is friendly and funny. the pool is small but the bed is comfortable to sleep in. price is good for the neighborhood. good restaurants in walking distance

The worst hotel ever in Houston. I thought I was at stripper convention it was very low class. The staff didn’t care about nothing I had to valet my own car and had wait hour to get my car from valet. My room look like a crime scene with blood on wall . We had to call three times to get towels for room service . The hotel smell like straight weed.

Do not waist your time or money. This place is not what it seems. They rooms are not worth it. Customer service is horrible. Save yourself the headache. Very outdated. You’re better off going to a the Westin hotel

We headed to this hotel for a little staycation. We waited over an hour for our room in a lobby filled with lots of frustrated people. Once we finally arrived in our room the TV was broken and the ice machine on our floor didn’t work. You can only access the floor you are staying on with your key card so this made actually getting ice difficult. The pool area was packed, standing room only with 20+ adults smoking week and openly drunk and actively consuming alcohol. It was a total free for all. I observed many people packing up and leaving and many looking actually frightened at the clientele at this hotel. This hotel is NOT safe for kids and families. The smoking continued on the elevator. There was no where you could go in this hotel to avoid the smell of smoke and marijuana. The room was clean. But the hallways smelled terrible. There were also prostitutes openly rooming outside the hotel with no police presence or moderation whatsoever. It was loud and there were rooms filled with 5-8 people Partying on our floor. We parked in the garage and both times I went out to my car I was accosted by men who were patrolling the garage area trying to pick up girls. It was at this point that I just went inside, held my breath in the smoke filled elevators, packed quickly and headed to the Marriott. We payed over $200 for the room and it was hands down the worst hotel experience we have ever had in the city of Houston. The room itself was clean and pretty. It’s the only positive. But it was a very unsafe environment and little was being done to address the situation. In my opinion. This hotel is making a very specific effort to attract a certain type of person. Prostitutes and public drug use were being tolerated the entire time we were there. I even saw nudity in the pool area. No one was wearing shoes and tracking standing water in the elevators. Huge coolers of beer and groceries were being left all over the hallways outside our room. I will never go back. It was a shocking experience from start to finish.

We stayed in a king size suite w a balcony on a Tuesday night, horrible view of the parking garage. When I called I was sent to a 3rd party answering service where I explained that I wanted to book a room and wanted to make sure that everything would be available, as this was a night for my husbands birthday and to celebrate no kids for just one night. I was told the pool, bar, restaurant were all open (the restaurant was open for pick up and not dine in, fine), I explained we were excited to have a drink and grab some dinner while not leaving the hotel. Person on the phone mentioned the fantastic robes we could enjoy! Great! I was informed they offered car service within 3 miles. When we got there we were immediately disappointed to see beer bottles and overflowing trash cans in the parking garage. No cameras at any elevators. No cameras on parking garage levels. We parked and paid 27.05 each for 2 vehicles. We checked in, asked about the bar and restaurant and were told that we were misinformed, both were closed. We asked if my husbands work truck was safe to leave in the garage overnight as it contained high value work tools, we were told that it was a nice area and safe and it should be fine. We went to the room and started looking around. The place was a bit run down, but it wasn’t bad. I immediately noticed the tub had a curly black pube or body hair in the tub. My husband told me to just rinse it down. We were now forced to get dressed and leave the hotel to get dinner (where we again incurred a parking bill at the restaurant). We came back to the hotel close to 10pm. The smell of marijuana was billowing from the balcony above ours. So we’re weren’t even able to enjoy our balcony. My husband wanted to shower, but it took forever for the water to heat up, perhaps it was just because it’s an older hotel. Water pressure sucked. He went to use the robe, it was visibly dirty with white crusty stuff on the neck area. Gross. We also found a small black beetle on the bed, not sure if it flew in from the balcony door, but it gave me the creeps. Pillows were flat. Bed was comfortable. We went to the garage the next morning to find HPD responding to 2 vehicle break ins. Our work truck and another guests work truck. They stole almost 2000 dollars worth of secured work equipment from us and 1000 worth of stuff from the other mans truck. HPD told us that this was an unsafe hotel, break in happen frequently and that it was the equivalent to a motel. I’m so disappointed. We always wanted to stay here and the experience was ruined. We are still attempting to get refunded as promised from management for the stay (they said it has to go through the 3rd party we booked it through) and parking fees. I prey Hotel Derek does the right thing and remedies this situation by atleast refunding our money or making future stays right. We really were excited to stay before all the nonsense. My husbands birthday was ruined. We had also planned on using them for our daughters birthday in July, future visits will depend on how Hotel Derek handles this situation.
